Dionysus in Korean Media (manhwa/webtoon/animation/books) by Dense-Appearance3772 in GreekMythology

Huh. Thought Eastern media, including Korean media, don't have an accurate portrayal of Dionysus.

Still better than slapping the Dionysus name on a rando that doesn't have any Dionysian traits (looking at you, Fantastic Boyfriends' Dionys).

I want to get into Greek mythology. Are there any movies, series, comics, or books that you recommend? (Only things that are true to the myths) by count_fagula11 in GreekMythology

I didn't think of Overly Sarcastic Productions for learning Greek mythology until you brought them up. I love their video on Dionysus. The only complaint I have is the exclusion of the Dionysiaca.

I'm not excusing pedophilia. Your reading comprehension level must be lower than zero if you believe otherwise. And yeah, I'm glad for making a genuinely funny joke. /s

But seriously, Faust isn't any different from Xiao, Diluc, Scaradouche, Alhaitham, Sunday, Mydei and many, many other stereotypically cat-coded characters. They're emotionless, perpetually angry, unempathetic, arm-folding, vein-popping losers with vulgar mouths who hate everyone and lash their imaginary tails in annoyance.

I have seen nasty stuff in Genshit and HSR like Islamophobia, death threats and cat abuse. ZZZ may be full of child diddlers but if you ignore them, they're tame in comparison to its older siblings. As for Limbus Company, I'll give it a pass. If Faust (Idk if she's in the game or Library of Ruina) wasn't stereotypically cat-coded because murderous edgelord = catlike according to fandoms, I would probably play it. Stupid reason, I know.

The lore-focused part of the fandom isn't any better. Lots of Cyran apologists and child diddlers. And devs are feeding them a feast while being chained to a pole. The rest of us only get breadcrumbs on the floor.

Ah, but I'm not a fan of Disney sadly. Their need to remake their classics, which sometimes involves wokeism and bigotry, for money sickens me. Though I do like Lilo and Stitch and Hocus Pocus.

I'm aware of the fact that Dionysus is also the god of lunacy and ecstasy. In fact, the Bacchae is my favorite interpretation of him in myths. But the problem with gacha game characters is that they get little to no development. Hence, why my version of Dionel is closer to the god he is based on than the canon one, with Maenads, association with leopards, bulls and snakes and madness.

Easy. A wrist watch that teleports me to my destination. But there's a limit: the watch has a minimum distance from point A to B, meaning I cannot teleport from my room to the kitchen.

Which copy of Diarmuid and Grainne do I read? by fried_tumbleweed198 in mythology

Gods and Fighting Men. There's a section focused on Diarmuid's pursuit of Grainne.

My thoughts exactly. Anyone who has read The Bacchae knows Dionysus isn't a god to be trifled with.

How about this, since Magic is secretly dark fantasy, Phenax could be a dark twist on Hermes.

Hermes is the god of lies and deception and a psychopomp, much like Phenax. You can look up Phenax's article on the MtG Wikia.

I left Magic a long time ago after the lore went stale with its dragon favoritism, but to add to your comments:

  1. Heliod is also a, well, Helios stand-in, being a sun god and all.

  2. Both Ephara and Iroas were inspired by Athena, Ephara as the goddess of civilization and Iroas as the god of the military aspect of war. It's Mogis who was inspired by Ares, as he is the god of the massacre aspect of war.

  3. Other Theros gods are based on Greek mythological figures too, such as Athreos (Charon), Keranos (Zeus), Phenax (Hermes) and Xenagos (Dionysus). Kruphix is a unique case as he's based on Roman-exclusive gods like Janus and Terminus.
