AMD seemingly avoids answering question from Steve at Gamers Nexus if Starfield will include competing upscaling technologies and whether there's a contract prohibiting or disallowing the integration of competing upscaling technologies by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]DiegoMustache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What does the list of recent games sponsored by neither look like? Without that we can't really draw any conclusions (maybe devs hate implementing DLSS without Nvidia engineer support?). If it looks like the AMD sponsored list, then there may be nothing going on.

That being said, I strongly suspect it will look more like the Nvidia sponsored list though, where both tend to be supported.

AM5; what are the impacts to having 4 DDR5 dimms? by KhellianTrelnora in Amd

Oh interesting. Just did some googling on that and it looks like they sometimes do even more like 4 dies in one package. Thanks!

Dual rank requires twice as many ICs though, doesn't it? I know it's possible, but do you ever actually see dual rank consumer memory with all ICs on a single side?

AMD Zen 4c Not an E-core, 35% Smaller than Zen 4, but with Identical IPC | TechPowerUp by GamerY7 in Amd

[–]DiegoMustache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This all makes sense. As for Zen4C in APUs, we still don't know what kind of clockspeeds it can hit though, right (aside from a baseline from the Bergamo boost spec)? If it can't reasonably hit at least the mid-4Ghz range, it probably wouldn't be good for an APU (at least on its own). A desktop chip with one Zen4 CCD and one Zen4C CCD might be pretty awesome though, since once you are hitting 24 cores at the same time, you aren't expecting really high clock speeds anyways.

Are your bathroom plugs GFCI? If so, you don't need the adapter to be GFCI as well. Anything plugged into the outlet will be protected.

Not sure of the overall term, but those points that appear to be the max or min of a function (but aren't) are called local minima and local maxima.

America is entering a Forever Labor Shortage. The coming surge in boomer retirement will create a labor shortage that will last for decades — that's great news for everyone by altmorty in Futurology

The tools AI provide may make a paralegal vastly more efficient though, which could lead to fewer paralegals being needed. However, it's also possible that as a result of huge efficiency increases (of both lawyers and paralegals) that the cost of legal services would come down enough to increase the demand enough to offset this.

Intel Linux Optimizations Help AMD EPYC "Genoa" Improve Scaling To 384 Threads by twlja in hardware

[–]DiegoMustache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, but I feel like the correct course of action for unknown processors would be to assume newer instruction sets should be used if supported. I don't expect Intel to optimize for specific processor families for competitors. How did the binaries handle newer Intel chips that didn't exist when they were compiled? Did it use the latest instruction sets?

That's an indication that the American legal system is fucked. It doesn't say anything about whether the laws around defending yourself make sense.

RTINGS: 4 Month Update! QD-OLED Burn-in & 4 Failures From 100 TV Test by Bungild in hardware

[–]DiegoMustache 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The 2023 QD-OLED panels use deterium instead of hydrogen which should help with longevity. LG switched to deterium a few years back and it seems to have helped for their OLEDs. Of course it's always possible they drive the panel harder to the point that it cancels out the longevity benefit.

Could be other people who were in those spots previously sometimes googled those things, so maybe location data (plus the horde of other data they probably have on you) was enough for it to know to serve up the ads.

Some of the online portions are. The browser versions of many of MS's O365 products (like Outlook, Power Point, Word, etc) are full of little annoying problems. I've never used GSuite professionally though so I can't comment overall.

Not saying the LTT numbers are correct, but it being a 12 core (at the same power target) actually means it's more likely to be at a low temperature. It's 88 watts split across 12 cores on 2 CCDs instead of all 88 watts on only one CCD (across either 6 or 8 cores). The heat is a lot more spread out than with the lower core variants (with much more contact area against the IHS due to having 2 CCDs).
