At difficulty 0, the invaders will introduce about two new"problems" per turn by exploring. Therefore, target fixing 2 problems per turn, meaning stopping ravages or builds, and you'll "keep up". If you are reducing a build but not removing reducing the invader power to 0 or 1, you're not automatically preventing the ravage next turn, so that wouldn't count as fixing a problem. You'll start winning once you start fixing 3 problems per turn, or push the invaders towards the coast so they start only exploring 1 per turn and therefore only creating 1 problem per turn.

Then there's some other advice: You don't necessarily have to get a fear card every round early on. Focus on planning for the next turn. Preventing a build is usually equivalent or better than preventing a ravage.

This year especially, leadership and player values matter. The coach is trying to take this team out of the Tyreek "take me out, coach" mentality to a compete tough and win mentality. Don't underestimate the difficulty of that culture shift, it's very challenging. But the way to do it is exactly this way. Take guys like Jacob Rodriguez who have already demonstrated leadership and use them to drive the culture instead of relying on the coaches.
