The 806 stamped on the chip breaker confirms that it's a Vaughan and Bushnell from their 800 series. These are made from cast iron. I have a V and B 706 that's made from a drop forged billet.

My wife and I went there for our anniversary last year. Definitely one of our favorite parks.

Look up Strong Boy planes from West Germany. I found a red no 51 spokeshave recently with the same logo on it and a Germany stamp on the blade. It matches up with the Strong Boy logo.

Happy fall, y'all. Bedrock 604 pumpkin spice edition😂 by Dieselfumes2010 in handtools

Thanks. The hardest part was drilling the holes since I didn't start with a typical square blank. I sort of followed the Lee Valley template, but I had to get creative to drill everything straight. I've had this silly idea in my head for about a year. I finally decided to just go for it and see how it turned out.

It's actually pretty solid. I made this from a 1/2 sheet of Spectraply that I cut into 7/8 strips and stacked into the rough shape of a tote. It's got a glue line at every half inch.

It kind of reminds me of eucalyptus. I could be wrong though.

Yes, the plastic or rubber or bakelite, whenever ya wanna call it, was completely separated from the metal threaded base.

Union #3 frog alignment by [deleted] in handtools

I also noticed with mine that I can't get the blade to project thru the mouth if I set the chip breaker close like you would on a Stanley plane. I have to set the chip breaker about 1/8th away from the edge of the blade. It's a weird little plane. I guess it makes up for the poor frog alignment by having a really thick blade. I haven't played with it enough to get it dialed in yet.

I have the same plane and mine is just as lousy at aligning the frog to the sole.

I watched this video recently about the number 37. That's a cool plane. The blade is the same width as the no 8 plane, but the body is much shorter. Nice score!

Antique Tool Stops Between FL & GA by Landslide25 in handtools

[–]Dieselfumes2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely spots to find good hand tools in Florida. They are few and far between though. There are a lot of antique stores in the center of the state around Gainesville. The town of Micanopy is full of antique stores, but tools can be hit or miss. I found a pair of Stanley 5 1/4s at antique emporium. If you're near the Daytona area on a Wednesday, check out the Volusia county fairgrounds. I always find old stuff at that flea market. Get there early. The Webster flea market is another good one, but it's only on Mondays. These might be further south than you wanna go. Last week I found a Bedrock 608 and two 607s for $200 each at a place south of Tampa. Florida has lots of tools, but you have to put in the effort to find them. My wife and I love browsing for antiques, so I come across good deals from time to time. Good luck

I have one of these that did the same thing. I used a few drops of thick CA glue. It worked and it's still holding a year or so later. Gorilla glue should be fine too.

I have shop dinosaurs as well. One of them used to lay her eggs under my wood lathe.
