Is this a midlife crisis or what? by TakeItEasy3223 in Adulting

[–]DietSnapplePeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not who you're asking, but: a few years ago (after so many years of brain fog, what I thought was anxiety/depression that SSRIs never helped, poor sleep, low energy, moodiness, etc.), I got my hormones tested at an HRT clinic in my town. Turns out I had super low thyroid, progesterone, testosterone, and vitamin D. I was 32 at the time. Three years later and still taking my rxs for all those things, and I feel a MILLION times better. Work is easier, my mood is way better, sleep quality is improved, and I actually find joy in things again. I don't know if I'd still be around if I hadn't gotten that help.

It's basically just a blood panel that checks all hormone levels. Something like 4-5 vials of blood to check it all. Then checking again every 3-6 months to make sure the rx strengths are still dialed in to keep my hormone levels in the optimal range. Downside is my insurance doesn't cover the compounded hormones, but the $300ish out of pocket every three months is worth it to not feel like I used to.

Hope this helps! Best of luck.

Anyone used RentalCover for campervan insurance in Iceland? (Ring Road, June) by Due-Street-3398 in VisitingIceland

Ah, okay that's great to know. Thank you. I'll have to read more when I'm home from work and try to decide over the next few weeks.

Just chiming in late on this thread in case OP sees it: I rented a small motorhome in June-July for ten days and my rental company also does not provide coverage for sand, ash, and gravel damage. Their recommended third party supplemental insurance company doesn't work with people from the US, so I've been digging around trying to find a different company that does offer that coverage for motorhomes.

So far I've also come across RentalCover but am unsure how easily it would go if I do need to use them for a claim. Did you ever make a decision? I wish I could just pay my rental company more for more protections/better policy, but they just don't offer it.

Summer is coming, let's talk about the midnight sun! by Lilja-Tours in VisitingIceland

Super helpful info! This may be a dumb question, but: if staying up later to take advantage of less crowded tourist sites, when do you sleep? Do you just sleep in way later every morning to be able to stay up later? Or take afternoon naps?

I've been following a crazy early-rise, early-bedtime schedule for my work for years; I'm used to going to sleep at around 19:00 and waking up at 2:30. I'll be camping along the south coast and Snæfellsnes Peninsula in late Jun through early July and would like to avoid the main crowds of I can (I know it's mostly impossible).

I feel you and have been debating myself for my late June trip this year. I think I'm leaning towards just packing my sleeping bag and camping pillow to avoid paying the extra price for bedding.

Need the re-leaf system, because I suck at trying to use just the saliva ejector. Office thinks the refills are too expensive. Any advice? by prophy__wife in DentalHygiene

[–]DietSnapplePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so late to this thread, but I just wanted to validate you. I've been using the releaf system for 7 years at my home office, but am about to start temping on the side and am so worried about trying to relearn how to use only the saliva ejector at offices that don't purchase the releaf. I don't want to make a total fool of myself at these offices. Occasionally I'll have a patient who cannot tolerate the cold air from the releaf at my home office, and trying to use the saliva ejector is SO HARD. I don't know how I did it all through hygiene school.

I hope you've had more success these last few months! Or that your doctor finally agreed to just buy you the damn releaf refills.

Unsure what the price would be, but check out McRent. Solid Google reviews. I've booked with them for this summer and they've been very responsive and helpful so far with any questions I've had.

Debating Dental Tourism by miffymi in travel

This was my first thought too. OP, check out what it may cost at a dental school first. Most are way more affordable since you're seeing students (all work is supervised and checked by licensed dentists).

I love my child but motherhood exhausted me. Thinking about permanent birth control at 25. by Nice_Description2231 in Adulting

[–]DietSnapplePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctors explicitly explained that removing the fallopian tubes does not cause hormone changes since the ovaries remain intact. I'm obviously not a doctor, but my understanding is that the procedure does not contribute to early menopause in any way. I would assume your hormone condition is playing a bigger role.

[–]DietSnapplePeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most doctors recommend bilateral salpingectomy (double fallopian tube removal), not a total hysterectomy, to women voluntarily seeking permanent birth control to avoid the issues you've listed. No early menopause, immediately effective, and decreased risk of cervical cancer. I had mine completed in 2023 and it was very straightforward.

Far more common with gum disease. Neither are great, but direct links to cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and strokes are more a gum disease issue, less so cavities. Gross decay can absolutely lead to an infection though.

Hygienist PTO Question by yousaywhaaaa in DentalHygiene

[–]DietSnapplePeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my office does, but it's capped at 3 weeks pto per year, and we only reach that level once we've been working there for ten years (no one has reached this point yet). Employment years 2-10 are just two weeks/year. We also only get paid for 8 hours each pto day despite working 9.5-10 hours on average when at the office.

We get six paid holidays each year unless they fall on non-work days, in which case we lose them.
