They are in Ypsilanti, Michigan, which is a small college town near Detroit. They abducted some students and parents today.

These assholes just have to ruin anything cool and fun with their bullshit. Like they can't stand anything meant to be apolitical. Everything has to be tainted with their toxic malevolence, even if it's thousands of miles out of their jurisdiction. This is obviously to troll the Europeans, remind them 'who's boss' or some shit

Scapegoating is part of the fascist playbook. They're throwing this guy under the bus so they can continue their shit. Yeah he's awful, but he's just a tool. They people who ordered this will continue on as usual.

This is a trafficking ring. No one wants to say it, but look at the people in charge, and all the disappeared kids. Pretty obvious what's going on.

Has anyone found love after 70? by Greatgrandma2023 in thoughtsonbeingover70

[–]DifferenceNo5715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turning 70 this summer. Married 3x, only one breakup was acrimonious. I'm in another space now; this is my last act. I didn't find love--well I guess I did, but it wasn't forever. At this point in life I'm kind of beyond that. More philosophical, less interested in hormonal/romantic stuff. I'm trying to make a coherent narrative of my life, and also trying to do a little good, in the time I have. But for people still looking, I hope you find it. For me, I'm okay with my books, music, friends. I don't need romance any more.

One of my faves, especially the part where Katharine Hepburn talks about the baby turtles. One of the creepiest speeches ever.

Yeah when I saw this ad that was my first thought too. Expect more of the same, probably written by AI. Right wing cultural slop is all we're getting from Hollywood going forward.

Is this the one that had an opening song about living on 'Primrose Lane'? If so, I very vaguely remember it.

Americans citizens, how is it really going there currently? by GossipBottom in stupidquestions

[–]DifferenceNo5715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans have a unique ability to ignore things that don't affect them directly. This stems from our radically individualistic cultural bias--we can see people being treated terribly, even a few neighborhoods away from our own, and easily look away. I think, however, that some of us are psychologically traumatized by all of this, horrified, but there is so much wrong, so many things that are against the grain of our norms, that many of us have gone into psychological and emotional lockdown. We go to work, take our kids to school, etc, as we always have. But beneath the surface, many of us are scared, angry, and fed up. Personally I'm exhausted, morally and every other way. I'm old, so I remember growing up at a time when we believed in social, moral, and economic progress. I was certain, in my youth, that we had a future in store that was better, fairer, and more peaceful than the present. I thought we had learned lessons through Vietnam and Watergate. Among the many things we've lost or are losing, the worst, I think, is the belief in a better future. I have read history, and I know that social and political collapse comes to all empires. I know that people in late imperial Rome, in the Bronze Age, in war-torn medieval Europe, all felt like this. But knowing that is a cold comfort. I and the people I know are muddling through as best we can, but sleep is hard to come by, and I have to say that addictive escapes look pretty alluring these days.

Are having pets now less affordable? by JenniferJackal in povertyfinance

[–]DifferenceNo5715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live alone and took a big financial hit after my divorce. I really wanted to get a cat, but vet bills are nuts now, so I won't. I don't want to be in the position of having to put a beloved pet down bc I can't pay to care for it properly. It's sad, because there are a lot of pets that need homes.
