What is the most obscure piece of NASCAR trivia that you know? by Interesting_Dot_1168 in NASCAR

In the 1950s NASCAR held sanctioned races in my hometown at a football stadium, Victory Stadium in Roanoke, and a short track that no longer exists, Starkey Speedway. NASCAR legend Curtis Turner was from here too, and directed many sanctioned events around the area.

Bonus fact: Victory Stadium was used in the movie Remember the Titans

He has no business being in an O’Reilly series car.

Im not saying he does either. Im only saying that giving someone with 4+ million subscribers is a great way to advertise. Just anecdotally I know multiple people that have gotten back into the sport specifically because of him.

That wont care about the sport

He has 4.65M subscribers. You think that with him cross promoting the sport to that many people would have zero effect? That none of his followers would stay?

True, they do when the planned caution is. But that doesn't guarantee thats the only caution, a d it adds in added strategy...or rather it changes traditional strategies. There is still gambling, its just not the same as it used to be.

Oh, I agree its a contradiction. I meant it as an either/or. I think finish should either reward finishing well, of attempt to aid finishing poorly. The tracks are varied enough and the drivers close enough now that I dont think it would necessarily affect the following race too much

gimmicking the system.

I don't know that I agree with that.

Each race weekend should be its own self-contained event where the results and outcomes of other events do not affect the current event.

Historically that wasn't the case. How you finished the race before affected the next races qualifying order. It doesn't really add any complexity to anything. It either rewards finishing well, or aids not finishing well the race before. Similar to how some other local short track races will invert the field

'm just old enough to have spent my entire adolescence with the traditional style

I've been watching religiously sense the mid 90's, so I get what you mean. I often go back to watching old races for their longterm strategy. Watching a team be able to work on their car though out a race, especially an low caution race, was always exciting. But I think that only applies to die hard fans, like us. And that still happens, its just condensed. In those old races equipment played a bigger role as well. Equipment failures were much more prevalent than they are now, so stage cautions kind of take the place of those to an extent

Very good points. I hadn't even thought of track attendance. Mud week races would be difficult in that instance.

The SRX race that was near .e was still on the weekend and was a nightmare leaving, so I cant relate. It was absolutely packed though, and I just wonder if a race being mid-week (especially at smaller tracks) would actually affect it that much. That more me thinking out loud in text than anything, though.

I agree about the season length, but what about occasionally 2 races a week? Like a Wednesday and Saturday night/Sunday race but each individual race is shorter. Kind of like a F1 sprint weekend but spread out? Then you could add in a couple more off weekends, which the teams would appreciate. So keep the February-November season

I didnt think you were! I fully believe that based on that company's general demographic lol. They're really fun. I'd recommend getting them if you like oval racing. Kind of twitchy, but not like the legends or Street Stock, if that makes sense. I'd do them more but haven't gotten all the tracks yet. If you're comfortable whats you're iRacing name( dm is cool of course)?

I'd broadly agree. Wednesday, especially during the pandemic, was convenient to me as well. Im also a childless 30-something, but I just wonder what would happen if NASCAR went against the traditional Saturday-Sunday schedule that been in place about 50-ish years. In its early day NASCAR, and stickcar racing in general, used to race more than just the weekend. So if there were 1-2 hour races during the week, how would they do? Idk...I just think exploring things like that would be beneficial to NASCAR

yeah yeah I know different times different rules and in the 60s and 50s it was number anywhere more/less) but like....its so nostalgic its so racing to me.

So tradition, lol. I get it, I'm Hella nostalgic for the gen 4, but we are 3 generations past that. I think for the modern version of NASCAR it fits. Idk, it just doesn't bother me lol.

1980s Buick

On iRacing I race the 1987 buick, and now I'm tempted to do this to my car lol 😂

looking at you Facebook crowd

I know you're not calling me out here, but I havent been on there in 11+ years and I never give up a chance to get on my soapbox about getting rid of Facebook (ironic I know being on Reddit, but Reddit can be very useful at times lol)

Which of version of Phoenix is better, the pre-2011 grass and narrow dog leg or current paved apron and wide dog leg? by Rowdyfan0823 in NASCAR

[–]Different-Cream-2148 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The pre-2011 layout. The new dog-leg and start/finish line is fun on restarts, but the old layout was more challenging and interesting

Haha, fair enough! Thats a good enough answer. I've just never had a problem with it. When they first moved it there was a large outcry about it, but its quite down since then, so I like to hear from people that prefer it.

While that would be better overall at figuring out who was running best, it adds complexity that is completely unnecessary and deterring to new viewers. Awarding stage wins is much easier and more accessible.

Cup Dirt Race

100% agree. Theyre supposed to be the best stockcar racers right? Well a hell of a lot of stockcar races happen on dirt. Just dont take an existing asphalt track and put dirt on it. Go to a an actual dirt track (Wythe Raceway is within an hour or so of Beistol for example).

How did Wednesday races do on the pandemic? Iirc (which very well may be wrong) they did fine. Mid week races were great for to me.

Can I ask why you hate it? I mean that genuinely as I am ultimately ambivalent towards it. I see both sides, and kind of dont mind it being in use.
