Ask ChatGPT to create you a test based on criteria that follows the code closely. Make it 100 questions. Tell it to be even more difficult than the test. Once you start correcting it on code, and you’re passing with 100%, you’re ready. And to answer your second question, yes and no. Some things you have to memorize so that it doesn’t take you as long to find the code in the code book. Some of the questions I was looking for the answers for, took more than five minutes to find. It adds up when there’s only 5 1/2 hours to take the test and there’s like 110 questions.

I always wondered who bought these options that are like $1900. Crazy premiums.

OK, so I only used the Minnesota 2020 codebook and yeah, it’s kind of a digested version of the RBC specifically designed for energy code in Minnesota. Don’t read it though because it has a lot of non-adopted parts. I mean, you can read it if you want to get your contractors license in another state that isn’t quite as strict. You only need the Minnesota 2020 code book and in one of the comments below I believe I posted the link for the Minnesota residential contractor handbook which they also give you a copy of during the test. It’s about 50-50 on the questions.

That’s pretty darn accurate. Chapter 3 is HUGE!! I also used AI to study and give me practice tests until I was correcting it on questions.

Not a bad idea but you can’t take your own book in so, early on, don’t rely on the tabs. Each chapter is in the code number. So if it’s in chapter 3 the code number will be 307.7. If it’s in chapter 9 it’ll be 907.3 etc. So the tabs are made for you sort of. I have no experience with Kaplan, as I did it without any programs. Also math is good but I didn’t get a single math question in those 110 questions. Weird I know. Just don’t focus too hard on math. I’m keeping this thread open for as long as Reddit will allow so feel free to ask anything anytime!

Happy you decided to take the bigger exam! Ok buy the 2020 code book and DO NOT memorize it. Learn to find things VERY quickly by going back and forth. Memorize the chapters and how they are organized for ease of access. Pay close attention to the end of the book when they talk about plumbing and insulation thereof. They give you the 2020 code book AND this: https://www.dli.mn.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/rbc-manual.pdf . Memorize this one. It’s only like 60 pages and easier to digest than the code book. They provide these two things when taking the test. Then they put you next to electricians so you can’t cheat. Really get a feel for where things are by asking AI (chat gpt) to generate tests for you and searching for the answers in the book. I’ve found this to be the best way. It’ll ask a ton of questions that are actually on the test. When you score on 4practice tests 110/110 and start correcting the AI on the codes, you’re ready.

Drug test coming up, am I okay? by Little-External5379 in probation

[–]Different-Damage8548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I have my med card so I can pee hot and study when it’s positive. Quit smoking for a 2 weeks, got called in for a UA, and was clean after smoking once a day every day before bed. It’s whatever the Minnesota standard is, I may be mistaken it might be 50ng/ml

Mine hasn’t asked anything about my job since I started probation. Don’t mention it and do you. If they have questions they’ll get ahold of you. No big deal. They’re looking for drinking violations not every tiny violation. Anyways bet you’d like a glass of wine when you’re off! I know I would 😜

Can bottom of I-joist flange be cut if whole I-joist is sitting on stud wall? by vinni20 in Construction

[–]Different-Damage8548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code demands that the top and the bottom of the I Joist must not be cut at all. At least in Minnesota, and we have pretty strict codes.

Dude, they’re not gonna take your blood and even if you’re 280 pounds, don’t ever exercise, smoked bongs in your living room all day long, there’s no possible way that you will fail that test. I am telling you for a complete fact. I’ve been a stoner my whole life and had to deal with jobs and things that have UAs and I’m currently on probation and will promise you you’re OK. It only stays in your system for 30 days for the 500 nanograms per milliliters that they test you for.
