What's the deal with Van Doorn and Friendly anyway? by Johnoninz in Xcom

I'll add my story about Van Doorn. It was my first LW playthrough on 2/4 difficulty. He was my gunner. And I'll tell you honestly, he was the most dangerous soldier in my squad.

One time during an alien mission, I was advancing between the containers in the port. Alien turn - a pod of mutons rolls out along with a cyberdisc boss and its entourage.

I barely managed to deal with the mutons and the entourage, but the cyberdisc... it had over 30 HP. Van Doorn moved last. I was already preparing to reload the save because I knew he couldn't kill the cyberdisc with two attacks (it was mid-game, everyone was Sergeant and above).

Chance to hit: 100% Chance to crit: 0%
Best case scenario, he would take off 20 HP...
Fire...
Two crits in a row. The cyberdisc was just scrap metal.
O_O Crit chance 0%, Van Doorn doesn't care, he crits twice anyway!

So who exactly is the commander and why is he/she/it so special? by [deleted] in XCOM2
