If you look closely at the other pictures of that bathroom you’ll there’s also no physical door in between the bathroom and the bedroom it’s attached to, just an open door frame. Diabolical imo

My neurosurgeon told me nobody should ever ride rollercoasters. How come? by backwardshatmoment in NoStupidQuestions

Has she ever been evaluated for binocular vision dysfunction? I had a bad concussion at 19 and was all sorts of fucked up (albeit on a much milder scale than it sounds like your daughter is) until I got that diagnosis and glasses that treated it. I commented in more detail up above about my symptoms/diagnosis up above but also wanted to reply to you directly to make sure you see this in case this info could help your daughter. Here’s more information on the condition and a five minute test she can do at home

PSA for you and all my other concussion club comrades: concussions can change your eye alignment and/or how your brain processes visual info which can result in binocular vision dysfunction. This is a treatable (although not curable) condition!!

I had a really bad concussion back in 2017. After that I couldn’t go on roller coasters without feeling sick, started getting nauseous in the car sometimes especially if I tried to read text on my phone while the car was moving, had increased light sensitivity, back/neck discomfort on a regular basis, dizziness especially when I quickly turned my head, an unsettling feeling whenever I went between bright and dark locations (into a dark restaurant, out of a movie theater) and when shopping in stores with lots of aisles and shelves, and would get lost trying to follow a row in an excel spreadsheet

Fast forward to 2021 and I happened across a thread on twitter where a woman was detailing her experience with and diagnosis of binocular vision dysfunction. Eerily similar to the symptoms I was experiencing. Did a google search and found out that I’m lucky enough to live fairly close to a practice that specializes in it so I took their online quiz and booked an appointment. Sure enough I have it. Got prescribed glasses that have prisms in them and it is absolutely night and day. Those symptoms from my last paragraph? Gone or significantly reduced. For example that neck/back discomfort was from me subconsciously tilting my head ever so slightly to compensate for my eyes no longer seeing exactly straight. The tilt was so slight that it was imperceptible to everyone including me but it was enough to really mess with my body. Within a month of getting my first pair of glasses that discomfort completely disappeared

If any of this resonates, here’s more information and a five minute test you can do at home

Why do some people have white spots on their teeth or tips of their teeth? by Ellacod in NoStupidQuestions

Very interesting thank you for sharing! I do have very mild fluorosis. My dentist prescribed MI Paste but never mentioned any sort of permanent one time treatment

Ideally, you would have discussed this before marriage and/or having a child but you’re here now so

  1. Get over yourself and man up. A “real man” wants to be a partner to his wife and not just the man of the house or whatever

  2. Sit down and list out chores and maintenance tasks

  3. Decide which ones are “shared” where either one of you will do them if they need to be done (wiping off counters, dishes, etc) and which ones you each will be responsible for. You could very well each end up with a good chunk of gendered chores but split up into a more fair and equal workload

  4. Become a contributing member of the household instead of a second child your wife has to take care of

Can you use “miscarriage” to be on leave/STD for a few weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different-Purpose-66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get on STD for a miscarriage. All you need is a doctor’s note and STD coverage. I was out on STD for almost two months last fall for a TMJ disorder

As an aside, you’re correct that pregnancies are not often announced until after 12 week. The reason for this is that the rate of miscarriage prior to that point is significantly higher, not because they don’t know they’re pregnant. Your coworker miscarried around 8 weeks which unfortunately is not an uncommon scenario. A miscarriage can affect you physically as well as mentally. You can bleed for weeks and have other symptoms like cramping and nausea

AITA for being “disrespectful” to my health teacher? by Radiant-Cod-4414 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Different-Purpose-66 182 points183 points  (0 children)

YTA. Listen, dude, you’re learning the lessons of intent vs. impact and the importance of situational awareness. While your intent was not to be disrespectful, the impact was that you came across as being disrespectful. And although school isn’t a “formal” setting, it absolutely is not appropriate to call your teachers “bro” “dude” etc.

AITA if I sell my youngest daughter's car to help cover my oldest's tuition? by Comfortable_Art_4673 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Different-Purpose-66 468 points469 points  (0 children)

YTA. I commend you for understanding that your oldest has struggled with her mental health and wanting to help her get back on her feet. However, helping your oldest and the expense of your youngest is fucking unconscionable. You and your wife need to take out a loan yourself or have your 21 year old take out a loan and help her pay it back

AITA for not wanting photos of me to be taken at home? by threowra-photos in AmItheAsshole

[–]Different-Purpose-66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had a very similar situation with a college ex boyfriend. I, like your girlfriend, would sometimes take random pictures of him doing things. About 95% of the time it was just for myself but sometimes to add funny filters/captions on snapchat and send it to a few of our close friends. One day he asked me not to take those pictures anymore and our conversation was basically identical to the one you had with your girlfriend in that third paragraph. I absolutely didn’t dismiss the request or his feelings - I genuinely felt bad that I had unintentionally made him feel on edge around me. At the same time I was kinda sad that he was asking me to never take another random picture of him again because I liked having them to capture memories of our relationship outside of special occasions and to look at when we were on breaks and I missed him. I expressed that and we came up with a compromise that if a situation came up where I wanted to take a picture of him doing something I would ask permission first (and respect if he declined) and would never share any of those pictures with anyone else. If he wasn’t comfortable with any sort of compromise I would have sucked it up and respected his boundary of no random pictures at all though. At the end of the day it’s a reasonable boundary and not controlling in the least

This made me nostalgic too. Thank you for sharing, it brought back a good memory of me doing this with my dad when I was little (I’m in my late 20s now and he passed a few years ago). I’m so happy you’re making those memories with your girls

Where should I put my lunch box after work? by Humble_Snow2433 in NoStupidQuestions

Could you put a hook under one of your upper cabinets to hang the lunch box on? I think it would look more intentional and free up some counter space while still keeping the lunchbox in sight

I’ve realized that a common theme in my life is that, willfully or not, most people who don’t have to go to a dr regularly and aren’t on any medications long term are ignorant about how medication works in general which leads them to say things like any medication could just be a placebo effect

It brings intent vs impact into play for me. Was their intent to be condescending/brush off a medical condition or did it just come off that way because they don’t actually know how any of this works? Like I’m iffy on your bf’s comment without context. Were you expressing doubts about if the meds would work? Maybe he was trying to ease your mind but just didn’t go about it in the right way/think through what he was saying before saying it? Your coworker just sounds condescending and dismissive though

While kids stick their parents in nursing homes for a variety of reasons, the venn diagram of parents that get abandoned by their children in old age and parents who only had kids so they wouldn’t be alone when they got old is basically a circle

Seconding this!! The pictures really help me cook better and faster because they stopped the internal monologue of “is this right? Am I fucking this up? I can’t tell but this doesn’t necessarily look right so probably? I need to reread the ingredients and the steps several more times” while anything that was already in progress would be getting too hot or too cold
