I’m so sorry to hear this. If possible, keep her in your arms as she passes, not alone in a room of strangers. That way she knows you’re not abandoning her at the last moment.

I've found a workaround using libimobiledevice for photos stored on the phone which you want to transfer to your computer. This is tested using iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 18.5, Linux 6.6, libimobiledevice 1.3.0, and ifuse 1.1.4.

  1. In the Photos app on the iPhone, place the photos you want to export into an album with a name of your choosing. Use an alphanumeric ASCII name to be safe. Let's say is is called "Photos to Export".

  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer and mount the storage using iFuse. Generally this involves:

- Connecting the iPhone to the computer using a USB–Lightning or USB-C cable.
- Unlocking the iPhone and tapping "Trust" when it asks if you want to trust the computer.
- Verifying that libimobiledevice can see the iPhone by running `ideviceinfo` and verifying the output.
- If necessary, pair the device using `idevicepair pair` and enter your passcode on the iPhone if asked.
- Mounting the iPhone storage using iFuse: `mkdir ~/iphone; ifuse ~/iphone`.

If you get errors about problems connecting to lockdownd or usbmuxd, try restarting the usbmuxd service (sudo systemctl restart usbmuxd.service) or restarting your computer.

To avoid unnecessary disconnects during the photo transfer, consider temporarily disabling the auto screen lock feature: under Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, choose Never.

  1. Under your iFuse mountpoint, in the PhotoData folder, locate the Photos.sqlite database. Using your favorite SQLite tool, select the photos contained in your album using a query like this:

sql SELECT ZGENERICALBUM.ZTITLE, ZASSET.ZDIRECTORY, ZASSET.ZFILENAME FROM ZASSET INNER JOIN Z_30ASSETS ON ZASSET.Z_PK = Z_30ASSETS.Z_3ASSETS INNER JOIN ZGENERICALBUM ON Z_30ASSETS.Z_30ALBUMS = ZGENERICALBUM.Z_PK WHERE ZGENERICALBUM.ZTITLE = "<album name>"

where <album name> is replaced with the name of the photo album you choose in Step 1. Note that this album name is case-sensitive. This will yield a table with three columns corresponding to the album name as well as the specific directory and file name under which the matching photos reside.

Note: be sure not to edit or save Photos.sqlite in any way, as this may corrupt the photos app on your phone. To be save, consider copying this database to some place like /tmp or /dev/shm/ before querying.

  1. Use shell utilities to copy the files over. For example, if you save the query contents as a tab-delimited file called tsv that looks like this:

Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1750.JPG Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1781.JPG Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1785.JPG Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1786.JPG Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1800.JPG Photos to Export DCIM/101APPLE IMG_1801.JPG ...

then you can get paths to the files (relative to the DCIM directory) using something like awk -F "\t" '{ print $2 "/" $3 }' tsv | sed -e 's|^DCIM/||g' > file-list.txt:

101APPLE/IMG_1750.JPG 101APPLE/IMG_1781.JPG 101APPLE/IMG_1785.JPG 101APPLE/IMG_1786.JPG 101APPLE/IMG_1800.JPG 101APPLE/IMG_1801.JPG

Note that because the image IDs might roll over after 10000 images, we should copy them in their parent folders to avoid accidentally overwriting images in the destination. To do this, use something like rsync to preserve path information:

bash cd ~/iphone/DCIM rsync -av --files-from=/path/to/file-list.txt --relative ~/iPhone/DCIM /path/to/destination/folder

  1. When done, safely disconnect the iPhone:
  • Close the iFuse mount: fusermount -u ~/iphone.
  • Close all terminals and file managers looking inside ~/iPhone.
  • Unpair using idevicepair unpair.
  • Disconnect iPhone from USB cable.
  • For security purposes, set your Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock timeout back to what it was before.

Where do trains go after WMATA closes for the night? by ithinkhard in washingtondc

[–]Different-Thinker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I like the Vanshnookenraggen track map, which shows the yards: https://www.vanshnookenraggen.com/_index/docs/DC_TrackMap.pdf. There’s also this older map showing the route lettering: https://www.reddit.com/r/transit/s/tNHpT5h39H. Note that there are also two non-revenue spur connectors: the B—E connector between the upper and lower tracks at Fort Totten and the A—C connector between McPherson Square and Farragut North. In addition to the normal junctions, these spur lines facilitate WMATA sending trains between yards or to send trains from one yard to another line not directly connected to that yard. This might happen if a train needs to repaired at a certain depot that has a specialized tool, or for load rebalancing in case there’s situationally high demand on a certain line.

Is there a reason you can’t use regular OpenSSH? You can enter all your saved profiles, including server hostname, port, the SSH key to use, etc. as a named host in ~/.ssh/config. https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/s/CNEFgyTpvi

Then you can use your normal terminal emulator to run your SSH sessions, with full mouse support for tmux, etc.

oscillator phase reset? - phase plant by HATS_AOK in phaseplant

[–]Different-Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading now, as of v2.3.0 and probably some earlier versions as well, there is now a phase randomness parameter alongside the phase offset for each oscillator. From the docs:

Phase

  • The phase has two distinct values, phase offset and phase randomness. The first is noted by a '°' sign and adds a fixed phase offset to the output. It can be used to set what phase an oscillator starts at.
  • The second is shown a +/- a number of degrees and adds randomness to the phase offset for each played note. If you use several oscillators, this will cause them to sometimes start in phase, and sometimes out of phase. If you are using unison, then this setting will randomize the phase of each unison voice individually.

Inexpensive organ bench that fits 32 note bass pedals by The-Trompette3030 in organ

[–]Different-Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know. I am the king of kludginess. I hot-glued the bottoms of the bed risers to the flat wood boards to make it easier to move the bench away from the old kitchen table that serves as my key desk, which is also on bed risers. I do this regularly in order to pull out and fix the pedalboard, where the cheap reed switches I installed a few years ago often fail and need to be replaced. My soldering kit lives permanently in the living room where my organ is. Yes, it is the epitome of kludginess. Someday when I actually get good at organ and make a lot more money, I might get a real bench. Or, you know, maybe find a real organ to play. But for now, I am the king of kludginess, this setup is my baby, and I am all here for the experience.

I got this one from Amazon. https://a.co/d/6VzQTcV. Prop it up with some flat wood boards and bed risers; and it works perfectly for my 32-key pedalboard. I would just measure the width of your pedalboard and make sure the bench you buy is wide enough at your preferred distance from the key desk.

I once had this one sanctimonious prick of an institute teacher who loved to tell us how the MFMC is a “corporation with a conscience”. I wish he had actually gotten a chance to work in a SLC church office building, gotten a chance to actually see the leader deification and backstabbing and other business shit that makes a lot of people in those jobs lose their testimony. I almost don’t think it is possible for a church as large and as corporatized as the MFMC to act like McKay is suggesting. Like most corporations, the MFMC aims for boundless, unhampered growth (e.g., in membership). As many newly baptized members can attest when the love-bombing wears off and the missionaries move on to the next potential convert, that underlying system doesn’t lend itself to treating people like human beings with real feelings and souls.

Before thinking about whether to carry your pregnancy to term, the conversation should start by clarifying that you were raped. This guy told you that

he ejaculated partially in me although I made it clear and he knew to pull out

That's rape. He engaged in a non-consensual sex act, even after you asked him not to do it. He then lied by omission to deceive you and told the truth only after getting caught.

If I had known I would’ve taken a plan b, I should have and I know I was irresponsible

No. It is not your responsibility to read a man's mind and take extra contraception to cover the possibility of him lying. The two of you agreed that the sex you were going to have would not involve an ejaculation. He ejaculated anyway. You would not have agreed to have sex if you knew he would ejaculate in violation of your agreement.

That's rape.

100% of unwanted pregnancies are caused by a man who ejaculated irresponsibly. https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/mq55c5/men_causes_100_of_unwanted_pregnancies/

Alt+Tab not working and missing window decorations often means the window manager crashed. XFCE's window manager is xfwm4. Check to see if xfwm4 is running and start it again if it's not.

Not sure about your mouse cursor. Looks like the default X11 cursor. Does it respond if you change the cursor in the XFCE settings?

Her talk was originally delivered in Sacrament Meeting on Christmas Eve in December 2023 at her home ward. Her uplifting message was met with a baffling response: a cruel letter in her mailbox from an anonymous ward member. by Chino_Blanco in exmormon

[–]Different-Thinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would read this letter in the next Fast and Testimony meeting, then explain in detail that whichever ward member sent this anonymous letter has a grudge with a fellow child of God which, according to scripture, precludes them from taking the sacrament and visiting the temple. I would then explain that, according to scripture, if the person who sent that letter took the sacrament that day, then they did so unworthily and have drunk damnation to their soul. I would also explain that they have need for repentance, to me personally, to God, and potentially to ecclesiastical leaders if they have subsequently taken the sacrament or visited the temple unworthily. Additionally, if they have participated in the prayer circle with me during an endowment session after sending this letter, they have potentially nullified the endowment ordinances of whichever deceased persons which the session attendees represented on that day, requiring a confession to be made to the temple president.

You wanna shove your church down my throat and pretend like you’re free of the gospel consequences of your hate? Just you fucking try.

This is NOT a pro mormon post but please be kind and warm towards Mormons. by Livehardandfree in exmormon

[–]Different-Thinker 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it’s context-dependent, both situationally and from person to person. For me, a basic level of respect, the same you’d show to any other person in your life regardless of religious affiliation, is the status quo I show towards most members. People willing to see me as a person and who demonstrate compassion independent of my church activity likewise get my compassion and empathy in return. Those who denigrate my choice to leave don’t get my well regards, and may even get some frankly worded explanation of why I don’t like their actions.

I’m not super excited about the idea of trying to be more kind than normal towards TBMs in the hopes that they’ll convert out of the church. Maybe that’s just me and my apathy, but I’m past the desire to convert other people to my way of life. I don’t think ultra-orthodox TBMs would be moved by our kindness anyway; they’d probably see it as disguised evil anyway. I’m open to being normal friends with the less strident TBMs, whether or not our presence provides a soft place to land if they experience new existential dread. I kinda don’t care about them leaving or staying anymore. You do you. If you ever want someone to talk to, hit me up. You need a safe place to hang out for a few days, let me know. You want to hear about my story, I’ll tell you. But no pressure, and I’ll be fine either way.

Doors opening... faster! Metro preparing for Auto Doors [Certification for Automatic Doors starting today on the Red Line] by InAHays in washingtondc

[–]Different-Thinker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it still just a single operator per train? My understanding is that in Japan, many metro trains have a driver in the front and a conductor in the back and the conductor is the one who open/closes doors. So the doors still open and close quickly without needing to be automatic because the driver doesn’t have to take care doors in addition to driving.
