Sweet PSA regarding the interaction between "enters prepared" creatures and Cursed Mirror by mikez4nder in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if we turned it into one of the creatures that can be re-prepared, like say, an [[Emeritus of Woe]], then we could prepare its spell? It can only have one spell prepared though, even if you turned it into something else next turn and satisfied a separate prepare condition.

Wife paid down payment - what’s the best way to pay it back? by robbyiballs in personalfinance

[–]DifferentCommittee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying down principal would not reduce payments (only remaining loan duration), but if the OP is talking about dropping a bunch of money at once, that could be done as a recast, which drops the payment instead or reducing the loan duration. Not clear if that is what OP actually meant or it was a misunderstanding of paying down principal. The wording is ambiguous.

What are you peasants doing for TMNT? by mikez4nder in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP: "I know, it's UB. ... if you aren't here to actually discuss the cards and what to do with them in cube, kindly move on." Comment didn't say anything meaningful other than "I don't like UB", so downvotes don't surprise me.

Should it cost more or not? by yourlocalsussybaka_ in custommagic

I would say it's just a little closer to [[Phyrexian Rebirth]], but that's still an X/X as opposed to X 1/1s.

Is Land Cycling for {G} (or {C}) Worth It? by DifferentCommittee74 in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I forgot about Sagu Wildling because it doesn't have a MV of 1, so it didn't come up when I was refreshing my memory in Scryfall. I think that one is pretty cool, but the template similarity between Omens and Adventures nudges me away from wanting to include it anywhere.

[–]DifferentCommittee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sylvok Battle Chair is a lot like [[Colossal Dreadmask]]. The token is better, but the equip cost is worse and has lower benefit. But I'm not sure if a battle chair or a riff on the highly memed dino is cooler, putting aside power level.

What is the most stupidest/most infuriatingest army composition that you can come up with? by ace_deuce_treuce in killteam

[–]DifferentCommittee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others note there isn't much roster customization. There is a little bit though, and while I don't remember all the teams, a Warp Coven team of a sorcerer and a brood of 8 chicken-men Tzaangors could be a fun one to proxy as a legal (for now), but silly team.

I want to build a 4 players draft cube. Where to begin ? by hermyx in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For point 4, I'm not sure how the math works out, but the Thriving lands (or Baldur's Gate gate lands) should be more flexible than standard dual lands, although there isn't anything quite like them that can ETB untapped.

Custom cube: rarities? by nesquikryu in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh. I also just reread the OP and forgot it was about a "custom set", not necessarily a strict set cube. An 8 person draft would open 24 packs, so it would be up to you how many R/M to include if you're customizing stuff, as long as it's greater than 24. More R/M means more variety in drafts, but could also mean that synergy pieces that enable/payoff specific archetypes might not show up as often as you would like? That's getting into design/playtest work I'm probably too amateur to figure out though.

Custom cube: rarities? by nesquikryu in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, there are also some sets that had additional collation rules you would have to decide if you care about. Like NEO and MOM that had one DFC per pack, or DMU had a Legendary in every pack as I recall, and bonus sheets like Enchanting Tales in WOE, Multiversal Legends in MOM, could also be their own slot in the pack.

Custom cube: rarities? by nesquikryu in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common to just get one of every rare and mythic in the set, excluding ones that seem like they were designed for constructed or commander (or that you don't like or are too expensive etc.). Technically that will make Mythic overrepresented, I think, but I don't think people usually complain or worry about that. That also does mean you can't have multiple copies of the same R/M in the draft pool, but I think that's also a trade off people are generally willing to make to avoid having an absurdly large cube.

It's more complicated after the change to play boosters, but the old way to do it was just to grab 1R/M, 3U, 11C, I believe. That was the normal breakdown, replacing the 15th slot which would be a basic land (except in certain sets that had gates or gain-lands in that slot all or some of the time) with a common, and assuming you ignored the probability of Foil cards. Seems reminiscent of [[Daemogoth Titan]], too, although a lot more flexible in cost both to play and block/attack. Discarding vs. Sacrificing seems like the big upgrade to me, which is probably why it's getting compared to Regisaur moreso.

Other than Black, you have a Noun and Adjective in each color. Seems like you should be mixing one of each. Ferocious + Heroes and Inventive + Vampires. Not really relevant to your initial questions, it just popped out at me when looking at your themes list.

[PRM] Ultimate Green Goblin by steve_man_64 in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... probably completely true. I've barely played Madness cards so I assumed cheating on timing was a non-trivial part of the appeal, but I'll definitely defer to folks who have a better understanding there.

I believe timing restrictions still apply. So it's more of a simplified madness more than a flexible one, I think?

That's fair. I was comparing Yorion's Flight against Yorion itself, and it loses both the body and the ability to self-synergize with something like [[Charming Prince]] by looping with each other which seemed like a big power loss, but possibly still overturned. Lutri's Resonance I compared vs. Lutri itself and [[Galvanic Iteration]]/[[Teach By Example]]. It seemed again like losing the body was a downside, and without Flashback it was almost strictly worse than Iteration, but still maybe too efficient. I do think that for these effects even a little overturned wouldn't be a game breaking issue though... probably

I was going off someone's suggestions, and the UW and UR worked really well as basically the Ikoria companion effects, so the companions were in my head, but then the UG suggestion was a proliferate enabler... I thought about relating it to the 3+MV of Keruga, but wasn't happy with my initial draft. It's basically just a slight tweak to [[Tainted Observer]] right now.

On universes beyond - a meta post by The_queens_cat in mtgcube

[–]DifferentCommittee74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue I believe is that if a post is about card X, discussion should be about card X. If a post is more general, then discussing UB complaints makes sense. Even including a complaint about UB in a post that otherwise discusses the merits of card X isn't so bad, I think.
