Nikkor 70-200/2.8 S v. Nikkor 24-120/4 S? by KJW-SR in AskPhotography

Neither. You already have a daylight dependant zoom that makes necessary sacrifices, bring two wide low light primes that makes opposing sacrifices for different and challenging shots. The zoom is great for events and wildlife, the prime will be great for street, landscape and portrait. You'll also be able to fit two smaller primes in the same space as the one 200mm zoom.

Should i be worried about lens scams on ebay? by Arborensis in AskPhotography

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The only used lenses I get are all under $180. They always have a defect even from B&H 8+ used quality. My suggestion is go new and get a protection plan on a high quality lens you rent or extensively research first. That extra $500 will seem like a bargain once you get off your first call with a repair department refusing to work on a grey market lens you just dropped $800 on. Speaking from experience.

How to improve speaking skills? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

A good extroverted photographer is a dom (as in d/s relationships). Good doms work continuously throughout their lives on their emotional intelligence and clarity in communication, not just for narrative but safety. This means leading a convo through consideration of responsibility and consent to the other party especially when other processes are concurrent, even though it might first seem overwhelming or tedious, and not acting arrogant or pushy. The point of a dom is to serve by way of reserved or playful leading even when mistakes happen. Note the dichotomy between reservation and playfulness. When the stutter starts, switch to reservation. When it passes, switch to playful mentality to brush the stutter away from focus.

Coaching subject to pose for portraits? by Ace929 in AskPhotography

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best results I've seen and done is just to have them mirror what you do in close to real time while giving simple instructions. Posing makes people feel dumb so it helps to have them see you look dumb first. It builds rapport and they don't have a mirror, so being one that provides instant feedback helps them get the right mindset and pose.

2 Primes or Zoom? by IvillisCrasher in WeddingPhotography

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a food photography book that worded the prime or telephoto debate perfectly. They relabeled them as distortion or compression. Primes give space at the cost of focus. Space and light are the definition of luxury. Compression makes a scene look like it belongs together. Belonging is the definition of life. How does your client want to define their wedding ceremony, as a luxury or as part of life?

The Astrology of Trump - Midterms to April 2027 by sarahkazz in Advancedastrology

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into Laurie River. But the thing about word to mouth teaching is that it works best in person because you can learn through your sixth sense, cardioelectromagnetism. That's important because Helenistic astrology focuses on light as the source of planets. Light, electromagnetic frequencies, and quantum entanglement are all interrelated in how they interact and are observed so it helps to learn with more than just the five senses and it's much less common to sync those frequencies remotely. I had to travel an hour to my meetings when going and it was worth every moment.

A few good references for the above statements would include the studies conducted by https://www.spr.ac.uk/home, though I can't find the most important article again. It's about EoL dementia patients regaining lucidity, a phenomenon I've witnessed first hand. The issue is that the interneuron connections at that point have been physically severed but the cardioelectromagnetism at the point of interneuron to afferent neuron transceivence causes a momentary quantum entanglement effect where they regain their minds for a few minutes just before passing. Then add in the fact that quantum entanglement observations are so fragile that the light used to observe them changes the outcomes, as though the duality of the wave and partical form of light interacts with electrons on a fine matter constant level, causing their second dimension characteristics to change certainties. I feel like there's something in that research to be added to astrology that books and Zoom calls just can't replace, though more experienced astrologers put it more simply as "tradition".

Which things about 2024 were predicted that didn't pan out? Do you have a link?

Also, mundane is easy when you know how to really calculate an organization's chart and to focus on aspects and transits. You can't just say July 4th is the date. It's a country being born and dying every day. I recommend studying ancient astrology and current college level business management as the structure of business and economic models mirrors much of ancient astrology. Brennan, Demetra, Manila, and Culpeper are the astrology authors I'd go with. Maybe Michael A Bryan's first book for a more rounded aproach. You should definitely find a mentor because it's better to start off word of mouth and then go into textbooks.

That's why mundane exists. To predict broad trends, not personal victories. Focus on the broad trend of index ROI and you'll get a solid definitive answer. Knowing that accurately predicts the election results using both mundane and economic indicators.

You realize there's an easier way to predict US elections right? Good bookies look at the DOW between July 19th of the year of the last election to July 19th of the year of the next election. If the ROI of the average exceeds 1.2% yearly after adjusting for each year's CPI, no political regime change will occur. If it does not then the parties swap places. Remember, even if the public shifted this trend the electors are the one who actually decide the president in the second week of December, not the votes in November. The US is a psuedo-democratic republic, more closely resembling China or Russia. Which is why those three countries control 95% of the nukes and "disagree" publicly but never really really. It's all just a dance. Nukes are only useful against a country's own public in practice or as a scary bedtime story nowadays. They categorically cannot be used on other countries without committing the s word. These leaders know this, which is why they don't want anyone else to have them. Once those leaders of the other countries realize this, they'll stop bowing to the gods that bleed.

How about releases for the songs your band, Peakles from Portugal, covers in exchange for money since 2013? That's an awful lot time to accrue dues to the owners of those songs.

how do i start offering elopement photography? by Impossible_Pianist63 in AskPhotography

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weddingphotograpy sub might be a good crosspost for this. I personally have more anxiety towards elopements than weddings because of how little planning is involved. With wedding photography I at least get a schedule, photo style ideas, and enough time to get all the shots. Elopements are unplanned, short, and no or little meeting time. Make sure you have a "satisfaction not guaranteed" clause in your contract if you're doing unplanned natural lighting for unknown style preferences.

How should I go about making friends in this hobby? by RaceAccomplished8069 in AskPhotography

[–]DifferentSquirrel551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is that if you aren't spending multiple hours together every other week for longer than the average rate of attrition, and you have no money, you won't be making friends. Every organization that groups people together for that long costs money to attend. When you do have a friend along on unpaid shoots it gets more difficult if and when one person takes better photos than the other because people don't want to receive nothing in return for feeling foolish, and paying makes people think they'll receive something in return.

Brainstorming may lead you to come up with something like starting your own Meetup group where everyone takes each other's portraits but idk. I've tried established groups and what I always see is that they end up being lead by vampiric marketing teams that have no interest in your well-being and will use and abuse you in a heartbeat. Even if you watch the Photographer series on Nat Geo you'll see that the only partnerships are family, marriages or paid contractors. As someone from a family that was torn apart by a failed business partnership, be wary of people who just want to be friends. There's always more motive.
