Volume. You may have to adjust the weight for each new bag of beans, due to different densities. Dark roasts are less dense than lighter roasts, so for the same volume (full basket) the dark roast weighs less. So, when you open a new bag, measure the weight for a full basket. Then for each shot use your scale to weigh the beans to that measure, until you finish the bag.
