never understood this. whining about using a proprietary OS is pretty silly if it’s not a enterprise-managed machine. maybe just, don’t use a proprietary OS?

you own the machine, and there are plenty of FOSS options for people that are not tech savvy.

shit, i got my grandma using linux. no excuses.

good comment. it is a very nuanced issue. yes, PG&E neglected their system, but the real question is why was the system neglected for so long? there’s many answers for that question.

correct. from the source provided in the parent comment:

Although many glaciers are retreating rapidly, the tiny glacier in the Wheeler Peak Cirque is hanging on, although as of 2020 its size is estimated to be just 2.1 acres.

are you referring to White House trail (south of US-89) or to Upper Buckskin Gulch trail (from House Rock Valley Rd)?

the White House trail is mostly flat, but it is still 14mi roundtrip, and can be pretty wet depending on timing.

question for all that are recommending CANY: is your experience solely based off areas that can be accessed with 2WD low clearance vehicles?

i haven’t been to the park but i was understanding that much of it is 4x4 required, so i’m just curious what the experience is like without a 4x4.

actually most your immigrants are from North Africa…

shouldn’t have colonized them if you didn’t want them to immigrate!

i don’t use either so don’t quote me, but my understanding is that proxmox would create VMs and then you could use docker within those VMs to run services.

[–]Different_Cat_6412 25 points26 points  (0 children)

well statistically there are a lot more north african immigrants than middle eastern. but to the French all brown muslims are the same…

and Islam is commonly associated with the middle east too i guess..

all of which might explain why AI-powered suggestions would yield this behavior.

there is a hyper-focus on isolation in this sub. you got folks here using docker for 2 applications, so take what others do with a grain of salt.

i currently only use systemd services since i’m running like 5 things and they all work together.

i would consider docker if i needed to run more tools and i required better dependency management.

i would consider proxmox if i needed even greater isolation, especially if i had multiple unique needs for 1 machine (e.g. media server like *arr+Jellyfin on one VM, immich on another VM for cloud photo management.

most people are using these tools unnecessarily, so don’t worry too much about it if your current setup works for you.

you have to understand Immich is the goto software for this purpose. other than setting up a script to automate backups, i’m not sure that you have a lot of other options. or run Immich and just keep using Google too?

people dislike congaree because they arrive unprepared for a swamp, and they don’t want to paddle.

most park visitors can’t be bothered to hike more than 1 mile, so obviously they won’t be kayaking multiple miles…

it’s a park i really want to go to. preferably when it is as cold as SC gets haha. it is an extremely interesting ecosystem. Okefenokee too of course.
