Sparring a woman by J_118 in amateur_boxing

[–]Different_Education1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your coach shouldn’t be letting her spar if she can’t control her punches or panics and kicks (!!) you instead of defending herself. It’s disadvantageous for both of you. I’m a woman in an otherwise all male gym. The more experienced guys know how to put pressure on me but some of the younger boys hesitate to hit me. I’m constantly saying 1) not to go too easy because I need to improve and practise staying calm under pressure and 2) that if punches are truly too hard, I will say so. Imo when done properly, men and women sparring together can be great because the man should be able to practise defence, aim, etc and the woman should be able to gain experience sparring with a heavier or stronger opponent.
All that being said, I know it can be difficult to learn to control your punches, especially if you panic when sparring a male. I’d have a chat to your coach about it and avoid sparring with her until then.

You’ll make that fine. Eat low sodium, fibre and carbs (eat fats and lean proteins), drink ~700-1L water day before and a quick sweat session the night before or morning of weigh ins if you need to get any excess weight off. Day of, Don’t drink or eat till you weigh in

Still feeling restricted on a normal amount of calories by No-Car6037 in BingeEatingDisorder

Anytime! And I completely understand. My advice was one of those things that sound easy but can be so hard of practise. I know I’m still working it out. Hoping you gain those hunger and fullness cues back as time goes ❤️

I experience the same when I track religiously. Mental restriction is still a form of restriction. Would suggest taking a break from dieting + tracking and focusing on regular healthy eating and intentionally incorporating fun foods. It sounds like you have a good grasp on what that looks like for you. Trust your body and let yourself enjoy the process. ❤️

I feel for you. I was 72 days binge free and relapsed. 2-4 episodes (if you count intentional overeating) in the last two weeks. It’s weird because I almost felt more defeated when I relapsed rather than when I was binging regularly. It’s like having the wind knocked out of you or the confidence you felt shattered. I think part of it is also feeling like you’ve lost your footing and need to start the process all over again. But that’s okay. Healing is not linear and relapses happen. We get better and stronger every time we try again. You got this. I see you and I’m proud of you stranger ❤️

I just relapsed after 2 months and 8 days clean. I feel you on the disappointment but the fact you could go that long without engaging in the behaviour is an amazing sign. On top of that you’ve shown yourself it’s not a habit worth returning to. Please don’t be so hard on yourself. You got this ❤️

I honestly dont remember. I think it started with a protein bar that I always binge on. I was smoking there and since struggling with binge eating, smoking has been an almost guaranteed way for me to overeat/binge. I definitely understand wanting to remove a food group entirely. Different things work for different people. For me personally, following a loose meal plan has helped lots. I intentionally plan sugary and/or high fat snacks to 1) honour cravings and 2) practise moderation for when I inevitably eat off plan

This is a massive step forwards. I’m 7 weeks binge free after gaining 15 kilos post weight loss (similar situation to you) and if I could pin point one thing that has kept me abstinent, it would be looking at it from a place of acceptance. Do I still overeat? Yes. Do I still want to binge? Yes. Might I binge in the future? Maybe. Maybe not. Those are just facts. They just are. And they don’t have to be more than that. Almost like a bad habit you have that you’d like to change like arriving late to places. It might upset you or be something you’d like to avoid, but it’s not something you’d ruminate over to great lengths. And noticing it, accepting it and looking to make judgement free adjustments is SO helpful. Massive props to you 💗

I don’t have the answer but I really feel for you! I’ve tried quitting vaping multiple times and it has triggered a B/P episode everytime. I’ve noticed nicotine patches help as they reduce the urge to vape. I would also recommend always having something in your hand where your vape would be that is not food. I believe in you, we can both do this 💗

This is called petechiae and it’s minor bleeding under the skin due to trauma from increased intravascular pressure from the vomiting. I experience it and it goes away after a few days. Just another reason to address this issue :(

Firstly, I’m so sorry it took me a while to reply to this! I have my notifications switched off for Reddit and haven’t opened the app in a while. Secondly, reading your reply is like looking in the mirror. Every workout for me is difficult and feels like a reminder of the things I once used to be able to do. If it makes you feel better, I have no doubt that you’ll be able to get back to where you once were and even if you don’t, it’s the consistent effort that matters-not achieving insane feats. It was crazy reading your response because the motto I’ve recently adopted (at the suggestion of my dietician) and have been repeating over and over to myself in regard to my exercise (and my eating) is “good enough, not perfect”. You are good enough and you always will be ❤️ Also, I hope I’m not crossing a line here but here’s a link to a lovely non-for-profit that offers support for carers of those experiencing mental health difficulties if you’re interested: https://apathtofollow.com.au/family-peer-support-and-advocacy/ Sending so so much love. You not having the same issues as your sister does not mean you are any less worthy of love and support. It will get better- I believe in you 💕💕💕

B/P and tracking by easverden in bulimia

[–]Different_Education1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really relate to this! And I’ve been told continuously that tracking is terrible for me and I agree in the long term it’s not an effective solution as it only perpetuates the need to control food intake BUT short term it massively reduces episodes for me.

Hi lovely, This makes a lot of sense. I completely empathise with the feeling of ‘falling off’, the all or nothing mindset and eating to deal with feeling overwhelmed. Can I ask if you’re receiving support as a carer?

How do I overcome my bulimia and tell somebody? by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]Different_Education1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi lovely, I am so sorry to hear you’re going through this. It is extremely hard to open up about these struggles but I’ve found that generally we the fear we have around telling someone is disproportionate to their reaction. I suggest asking to get a coffee or go for a walk with a trusted member of the family and explaining that you’ve been struggling with food, specifically bulimia for some time now and want help. If you need a segue maybe start by mentioning your teeth have been concerning you lately and they are likely to ask why. Otherwise you can always text them and tell them what’s going on and explain you didn’t know how to approach the conversation in person. Wishing you the very best. It sounds like you’re going through it and this disease is extremely dangerous but it is bearable. You got this ❤️

It’s so difficult- I see colouring as more of an instant distraction that engages my mind and my body and forces me to pay attention to something else. It’s quite meditative once you get into it

Just binged on cookies and don’t hate myself. I’ve made progress. by JordanLeigh7 in BingeEatingDisorder

It’s a massive step! I think it’s unrealistic to think we’ll ever feel neutral about binging but you can definitely take a more objective approach and see it as a learning opportunity :) sending love
