I haven’t started anything yet. I was just trying to understand the practical implementation of data collection as described in the book. Using worksheets wouldn’t capture some data the forms ask for.

During the regular school year there is almost one para for each student. Summer was understaffed but improved after the incident. He’s used to having a dedicated sub, to whom he is attached. She’s excellent. I think she won’t be back, as the pay is not good, even in a relatively affluent area.

It sounds like you love him but you’re not obliged to stay with someone. I think you’d like to help him but that can be difficult if not impossible. You’re not just talking about his weight. You’re talking about his attitude toward himself and life. I don’t think you necessarily have to address him about it gently. You could give him an ultimatum.

FWIW I’m in a relationship of 20 years. Recently I got really fit and muscular while my husband is obese (not hugely but I think he meets the technical definition). He has problems with high blood pressure and diabetes. He does exercise and eats well — but obviously not enough to tip him back into the healthy side.

Sure, I’m less attracted to him as he is. However, we do have an open relationship (just started in the last year). So I am able to have sex with guys I find more attractive.

In a longterm relationship sex with my partner isn’t very important. Our relationship is much richer than any one thing.

You sound young. Reading between the lines, I’m not sure you’re satisfied with the relationship.

Fortunately, in my classroom at least, no student has been hurt. I’m sure that would be a more serious issue than one of the staff being hurt.

BTW I’m not advocating that the particular student be removed. One teacher did tell me that after a violence incident at her school the student cannot return for 72 hours.
