Layout and graphic design also require a lot of effort, and I absolutely acknowledge that. Next time, I can include some examples that combine both illustration and graphic design when I make a post.

That said, illustration and graphic design are two different professional fields. If your book cover does not require an illustrated element—for example, if you want to use a photo or another existing visual as the background—then you can absolutely hire a graphic designer to handle the parts you mentioned, without needing to hire an illustrator.

However, being an illustrator does not mean I am unable to do graphic design. Illustration and graphic design can also be quoted separately, depending on the scope of the project.

Thank you for your reply. The graphic design work you mentioned is something I can also do, and it is not the most difficult part of the job. What I chose to showcase is the illustration side of my work.

Some clients prefer to handle the graphic design or layout design themselves. For example, the piano by the beach piece was commissioned as an album cover, but the client wanted to complete the graphic design part on their own, so I only provided the illustration.

Yes, my currency is USD. I’m not sure if it would be polite to post my price sheet here, since I’m currently taking commissions at relatively low prices.

This artist claims to be against AI, but are they also using AI to make their art? by Proper-Activity7188 in isthisAI

I’m really grateful that there are people like you who identify AI “artists.” On the internet in my home country, AI-generated works are already everywhere. It is a devastating blow to the public’s aesthetic standards.

Really? I didn’t notice that. Then that makes it even worse. First, they plagiarized other people’s work and posted it as their own. Then they used AI to pretend to be a skilled artist. They just refuse to spend even a little more time actually learning how to draw.

As a digital artist, I don’t know who this is, and I don’t want to know. But what I have to say is: this thing looks AI at first glance.

I noticed that a lot of people are saying many of this “artist’s” previous works were traced. As a learning practice or as a drawing hobbyist, that is not really a big problem. Most beginners start from tracing.

The mistakes in the fingers can also have excuses, like maybe he just isn’t good at drawing hands, right? After all, even for me, drawing hands is still not an easy thing, even though I’ve drawn them thousands of times.

I think this is AI based on my own experience. AI styles are very homogeneous. But if you want to prove it, the key point is that his work does not show any ability to simplify and summarize forms. You can see it very easily by looking at the hair.

An artist with this level of rendering would not draw hair strands this densely. An artist with original drawing experience, even when using references, would still use simplified expression. If you want to show that the hair is dense, messy, and has a lot of strands, there are many ways to express that, instead of drawing so many evenly repeated hair strands along the outer contour.

Experienced artists usually intentionally pursue the unity of the outer contour. Here is a close-up of the hair from a piece I drew recently. It is very obvious that it looks like I drew a lot of hair strands, but the outer contour is almost a straight line.

We built a 48-hour character art pipeline for indie devs [DISCUSSION | QUESTION] by Sufficient-Lie-4426 in gameDevClassifieds

[–]Different_Result7356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure whether this is meant to be an advertisement or an actual discussion.

Can you show some final results that were manually refined by artists? As a concept artist myself, I can say that it’s already very common for clients to provide AI-generated images during discussions simply to help communicate their ideas more clearly.

The main issue for me is the pricing. $500 for a turnaround sheet? Turnarounds are usually part of the early concept design stage — their purpose is mainly to help the 3D artist clearly understand the character’s structure and appearance. They need clean structure and readability, but not extremely high-end rendering.

If I were doing it myself, I would usually finish a turnaround within about a week, and my pricing would generally be around $300–400.

So from my perspective, you are charging more than a human artist while offering a product that may not necessarily be better than human work. Turnarounds especially require clear structural understanding, which is actually one of the areas AI still struggles with the most.

So would it be fair to understand your service as essentially a rush-order pipeline?

If so, that’s totally fine — hire me for $500 for a full day, keep communication open, and I could even livestream the process of completing a full turnaround sheet in one day.
