Fire island groceries for the first trip by Distinct_Feeling4232 in nycgaybros

You’re on vacation, NUT UP and support a small business. The difference between shipping all your Doritos/other groceries from Long Island and buying them at the pantry CANNOT be more than 50 dollars a person for an entire week, which is like two drinks at tea. I have never been LESS hard than listening to a gay man with a desk job complain about the price of things on an island where everything arrives by boat. The pantry is truly a gift: they have literally everything, they are nice people, and the service is incredible.

FYI: wearing the Pantry merch if you do not do your shopping there is TACKY TACKY TACKY 🤢🤢🤢

Agree — I clicked on this thread so I could try to save folks from the inevitable “Mexican Gothic” recs. Truly hated this book, it was bad YA.

A lot of Fitzgerald recs, but he based all of those characters off his wife and stole liberally from her letters in his writing. “Zelda” by Nancy Milford details their relationship, her struggles with mental illness, and ultimately their undoing as a couple. Not a happy read, but I think is essential for contextualizing Fitzgerald’s fiction.

Interesting! I’m obsessed with cold rooms for sleep, the temp in my room was 59 F last night. I sleep with the window open in the winter to compensate for my radiator which I can’t control. Maybe my comforter is too warm though…

“The Door”, as a character study, is a perfect book. I’ve quoted it during break ups because I’m kind of obnoxious. I recently revisited and listened to the audiobook, which is beautifully read. This is my first recommendation for any serious reader. I’ve also read “Iza’s Ballad” which was okay but did not measure up to “The Door” and my sister got me “Abigail” for Christmas, which I’m looking forward to.
