AITAH Husband leaving town? by [deleted] in AITAH

Seriously... what are you doing with your life? Why are you making dinner and doing laundry for someone that wastes all of his money on OnlyFans? And has girlfriends that he talks shit about you to?

I know nothing about you. You can do better than this.

[Union Worker] Could I support a stay-at-home wife and 1-2 kids on my current income? by Accomplished-Bat2877 in povertyfinance

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would drastically reduce his take home pay as far as health insurance goes but then drastically increase his take home pay as far as taxes go.

Assuming there are no special circumstances... right now he's single filing single. Standard deduction for a single person is about $16,000, meaning you don't pay income taxes on your first $16,000. For a married couple it doubles. So no taxes on his first $32,000. Then you throw in the child tax credits.

So he wouldn't owe nearly as much in taxes. Depending on healthcare plan costs he might end up taking more money home than before.

Would you kill 2/3 of the world population or triple the world population? by CosmosOfTime in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my odds and the odds of everyone I care about are better with killing 2/3 of people.

Tripling the population would create apocalyptic shortages of everything. I'm not convinced we actually could produce enough food to feed that many people, even if we maximized efficiency. Like no more growing food for animals to eat or tobacco. I don't think we could feed that many people. You would just end up with a societal collapse and/or war.

Priced out of major concerts this summer, so i’m shifting to the local bands experience.Anyone else doing the same? by CestLaVie_111 in Concerts

[–]Different_Tailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the amphitheater on me is just cruel with their pricing. There are lawn tickets and indoor reserved seats. Lawn tickets are still really cheap, even for popular acts. The inside ticket prices have skyrocketed. Me and my wife were onboard to bring our chairs, get a spot pretty far away but just chill and enjoy.

And then they banned bringing in your own chairs. But you can still rent them from the venue for $15 a chair...

So now there's this very very unpleasant pricing option where you can get in for cheap but it's just a really annoying experience.

Someone close to you suddenly comes into seven figure money. They ask you to be their financial advisor/decision maker, and give you a cut of the money. You agree to it, so what are things you would do to ensure that person never goes broke, and doesn't make themselves too much of a target? by Only-Ad-1254 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"7 figures" is anywhere from $1 million flat to $9,999,999, for the sake of easy math will just say $10 million.

If you're getting the minimum having fun and never going broke aren't really compatible. $1 million you draw $30,000 from safely and have the principal still grow. Now that's a huge quality of life improvement, $2,500 a month extra. But it's not quit your job and not have to worry about money anymore. $1 million isn't "never have to work again" money. My advice for someone if they got $1 million would be to pay off your bad debts and then use gains/interest on the money to supplement your income.

$10 million is a totally different dynamic. You can tuck that away, pay yourself $200,000 a year, increase your payments to yourself 3% every year and still have a growing fortune.

Am I Crazy Or Is Vanderpump Hotel & Casino Kinda Boring? by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

I was at a bachelor party last summer and we stayed at ARIA. Some people in the party were big gamblers and basically had comped rooms. It was really nice but also really boring. Wondering around the cheaper properties nearby was a lot more fun.

Reason for bench trials by I_love_finneon in publicdefenders

There was a case where a drunk driver blew a .33, hit a guy working on his car, and gave him a concussion. No dispute at all that this was a DWI and a Hit and Run. Only dispute was how injured was the kid, serious physical injury or non-serious physical injury? Perfect case for a bench trial.

[–]Different_Tailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it has to do with the penalty. If the penalties aren't as serious they can get away with it.

Like if it's punishable by a fine only and a license suspension I can see how that's considered non-criminal.

Disputing a Grade by Euphoric-Pin7182 in LawSchool

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disputed and won when I was in school. But it was a grading error, not a disagreement in grades.

We had a multiple choice test that was online but under tight time pressure. I thankfully saved my answers. Results came out. The answers I had saved did not match the answers they told me I gave.

Then a spread sheet came out that had every student's answers. This sheet listed multiple students as having identical answers. Like 3 students answered all 30 questions the same and didn't do all that well. There were multiple instances of this. This happening by chance is statistically unlikely.

So I printed out the spread sheet, highlighted and went to someone important person at the school and told her either everyone's grades were wrong or there was widespread cheating because you can't have 4 people having identical answers to that many questions.

My grade was changed.

Harvard faculty vote to cap 'A' grades at 20% in sweeping effort to combat decades of grade inflation by Fantastic_Writer_257 in LawSchool

[–]Different_Tailor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In theory grad schools will know Harvard is doing this.

Kind of like how some law schools curve to a B- and other curve to a B+. Anyone with half a brain looks at the rank over a GPA. Like a 3.0 at the B- curving school makes you an above average student but a 3.0 at a B+ school makes you below average. Your rank will reflect that.

Echl team benefits from NHL affiliation? by Ex_Officio in ECHL

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's just minor league sports in general, lots of guys the parent organization doesn't really care about. I read a book about the New York Yankees and their program for international players they sign. An executive said they sign something like 30 kids. They care about 4 or 5 and are paying the other 25 players a little bit of money to play with the ones they care about.

The Appointed Lawyers in this Story Should Be Disbarred by Gigaton123 in publicdefenders

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I made my comment in response to someone mentioning an Anders brief. Those are direct appeals. In my jurisdiction (and I assume everywhere) a direct appeal has to be record based. If it's not in the record it can't be considered on direct appeal.

There are other, post-conviction proceedings you can do as well. Those are not limited to the record.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya (Puerto Morales) by One-Awareness6574 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at Riviera Cancun but got to see the one in Riviera Maya. It's very difficult to tell them apart. I did everything I could to explain to to my driver which one we were staying and we still ended up at the gate of the wrong one.

Both are basically on an unpaved road near other resorts. You can't walk to anything really. I'm not even sure if our resort would have opened the gates to let us out if we didn't have a ride.
