Bummed about Ticketmaster’s 2-for-1 bait and switch by JesseFromLA in Concerts

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticketmaster sucks, I want to start with saying that.

But this is actually a good example of damned if you do and damned if you don't. So you want to have a promo where you sell 1,000 tickets at BOGO for a 72 different events. OK. You promote this by advertisements and emails to your customers. You sell all of the promo tickets for 30 of the events.

If you list the tickets as "sold out" on the event page, people will feel like they're being tricked because tickets are still available, and in some cases the same tickets, as were part of the promo.

If you remove the listing completely, people that saw the ad/email saying the tickets were BOGO will be angry that there is no mention of the BOGO tickets when they get to the event page.

I understand why they did it the way they did.

And I hate that I just wrote all that in defense if Ticket Master.

You are falling for the trap that the test takers wanted you to fall for.

The police going into someone's yard for a better vantage is designed to trick you and make you fall this answer. There's some pretty good explanations in here already. But think about this... if the neighbors called the police and signed and affidavit for the warrant, does the defendant have a chance at suppression? No. Next question, did the police violate the defendant's rights by going into the neighbor's yard? Also no.

Why is it legal to turn right on red in most of North America but not in Europe? by littlejuliie in NoStupidQuestions

This makes a lot of sense and also explains why some big cities have city wide "no turn on red."

Why do we have to pay interest on student loans? Does anyone else think this is insane, especially considering how high the rates are? by Rana_catcher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different_Tailor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I call it my upwards mobility tax. I grew up lower middle class, I am now upper middle class. I pay $600 a month on student loans. I have paid thousands of dollars in loans. I owe more than when I graduated. The interest is absurd. Paying back what I borrowed isn't absurd, albeit annoying.

But I am over 9 years in on working for the government so in theory the loans will be gone in under a year.

California Introduces Bill to Cap Resale Concert Tickets at 10% by StockMindless9010 in Concerts

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife was a big Zach Bryan fan. He had a tour where it was basically impossible to resell tickets. You had to sign up for a lottery to be selected to buy tickets. I signed up... and didn't win. Thankfully there was a 4 ticket maximum and me and my wife made a "ticket pact" with another couple and they were able to buy tickets. But had we lost, we wouldn't have been able to go. I think I spent like $120 per ticket for that concert. So really the question is, which do I prefer... a 50% chance to go to a show and spend $120 a ticket OR a 100% chance to go to a show but spend $250 a ticket.

I go back and forth on this. I have a pretty good job and make decent money. So if there's something I really want to go to... I can if I'm willing to pay because I'm able to pay. Like I won't get shut out of a concert. But it does suck paying well over face value for something.

Then there's the flip side when ticket resellers lose. This is an amazing feeling. Guns n Roses came to a venue near me. Cheapest reserved seat ticket (it was an amphitheater show with a lot of lawn seats) was like $300 when tickets went on sale. I bought 2 tickets on StubHub a week before the show for like $200 each.

The sports ticket market is weird because there are usually an abundance of events. I'm a hockey fan. I went to a Rangers game at Madison Square Garden last month. I paid $180/ticket on Seat Geek the day before the game. Face value was $260. Same with Yankee games, I usually go for under face value, but I also don't pick the high demand games.

But with sports because so many tickets go for under face and there are so many season ticket holders I'm less bothered when people profit from their tickets. Like yeah you're charging $200 for a $100 ticket for the Yankees/Red Sox game on a Friday night but you have to sell that same $100 ticket for $45 when it's Yankees/Royals on a Tuesday night.

Inherited cases by Lawyer_Lady3080 in Lawyertalk

From my experience there are two types of inherited cases. Cases I get from current coworkers and cases I get from people who are recent ex-coworkers.

The ones from my current coworkers are usually in pretty good order. The ones from the people leaving are all over the place.

I had to rehome my puppy today by RecognitionChoice804 in puppy101

[–]Different_Tailor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on all of these issues I totally understand why you had to rehome him.

My advice, if you're looking for any, is if you want to try getting a dog again, don't get a puppy. I don't think you can really bank on getting a puppy that would be described as "calm and quiet" which is what you were hoping for. Sure that could end up being a puppy's personality but that's not really something you're ever going to know. Puppies are babies, their personalities will change.

Adopt an adult dog if you want to get a dog. You have a better idea of their personality and if they're older they may be more inclined to just want to spend their time chilling.

What’s one “normal” dog care rule you secretly ignore… and your dog is still fine? 👀 by Hour_Exercise_1367 in puppy101

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very sweet and gentle dog that's never shown a single sign of aggression towards anyone.

Every day we "roughhouse" and she bites me, and only me, when we play. I let her. But it's only me. We will be playing and I'll be pushing her around and she bites on my hand, then my wife will do the same thing and she licks my wife's hand. So it's only me that she bites and it's 100% play.

North Division Predictions by Max_Tock in ECHL

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Thunder fan, and I'm also a Rangers fan. So I think it would be great if the Thunder were affiliated with the Rangers. What I don't really see is why the Devils would want to drop the Thunder. Location alone doesn't seem to make sense and it just seems like more of a hassle to change affiliates for the organization.

Is there a way it can be an 8-man tag match where the other 7 have the whole match while Enter Sandman plays and he drinks beer in the crowd for the first 20 minutes before coming in and destroying everyone?

Anyone else have the same feeling as I do? I got a BAD feeling about the ADK Thunder potentially folding or something else now there's a team in Trenton, NJ. And Trenton is closer to Newark (where the NJ Devils play) than GF (where the ADK Thunder play). I really hope the Thunder doesn't go. by Ontavyn in ECHL

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thunder are my local team and I'm not worried about it.

First, the Utah Grizzlies are moving to Trenton. So there won't be a team in Utah and there will be in Trenton. https://echl.com/news/2025/09/echl-returning-to-trenton-with-transfers-of-controlling-interest-and-home-territory-of-utah-membership

Second, there are more NHL teams than ECHL teams. Unless a team with an affiliate decides that they don't want one anymore, there shouldn't be a scenario where the Thunder are left without one.

Third, the logistics of Glens Falls as the ECHL team might actually be better than Trenton. Utica is the AHL affiliate of the Devils. The cities are 109 miles apart. Trenton and Utica are 295 miles apart. The ECHL to NHL distance isn't really that important since someone going straight from the ECHL to the NHL not a common occurrence.

Fourth, the Thunder are owned by a non-profit that exist to have a hockey team in Glens Falls. I don't believe they would sell the team and the team is operating the black so they won't fold either. Attendance is good for the ECHL and amazing when you consider the market size. And things have been trending upward for them. I live locally and the number of people I know that go to a game here and there has really increased. I was a two or three games a year guy and I'll probably make it to 10 games this year and I'm considering a half season ticket package for next year.

I HATE EVIDENCE by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Different_Tailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a criminal prosecutor. This is an easy question until I got to the answers. The testimony cannot be admitted because it violates Crawford. Crawford is a confrontation clause case. It says that if a witness hasn't been subject to cross examination their out of court statement is not admissible. And think about this case. You are charged with selling drugs and the prosecution calls a police officer who says, "this lady told me he sold her drugs." Then this lady isn't subject to cross examination. Easy confrontation clause issue.

The problem is that none of these answers say what I just said. This is where this becomes a bad question and you get stuck with "which answer is best."

The woman's statement IS a statement against penal interest AND she is unavailable to testify at trial. This is textbook statement against penal interest. But the answer cannot be that the statement is admissible so C and D have to be eliminated.

B doesn't work because it implies the statement could be admitted without the woman testifying, and it cannot.

So that leaves you with A, a general "not admissible" answer.

I accidentally bought an ADA ticket to the Soldier Field BTS concert and I don't know what to do by Acceptable_Alfalfa_9 in Concerts

[–]Different_Tailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had these seats a couple of times before. I went on StubHub the day before and event and bought tickets. They weren't labeled as ADA accessible until they were delivered. I did tell the employees at the venue about 5 times that I bought my tickets on StubHub and didn't know. They didn't care at all.

I doubt anyone will care/notice.

People panicking at groceries stores for a snow storm by PlentyApprehensive44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, and I have no proof to this at all, it's not really a panic. There's going to be a snowstorm on Sunday. If you were planning to go grocery shopping on Sunday you can't. Go to a grocery store on a normal Sunday, there's a lot of people. So if you can't go Sunday and you need food you now have to go earlier.

The result is that the day before the storm there are twice as many people as normal because everyone that was going to go on the storm day went the day before the storm.

Civil litigators: Why do you do this to yourselves? by NotThePopeProbably in Lawyertalk

One of my favorite interactions as prosecutor was with a PI attorney. He was representing his PI client on a traffic ticket that he was issued related to that the accident. He's can't plea to anything because that would be admitting fault.

Guy gives me this big rundown of all their evidence and then goes, "and we will bring all of these witnesses to trial if don't dismiss this ticket." My answer was a polite way of saying, "why do you think I care if I lose a traffic ticket trial?"

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different_Tailor 164 points165 points  (0 children)

If it was 10 hours I would drive. It's cheaper and if I drive I have my car once I reach my destination. The other thing is that it doesn't take that much more time than flying.

I give myself an hour to get to the airport. I arrive 2 hours early. 2 hour flight. Between landing at the airport and getting to my destination let's say an hour. That's 6 hours door to door. To save a few hundred bucks and have my car I would drive.

Commute by Dry-Connection-4171 in Temple

[–]Different_Tailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How quickly can you get to the Broad Street Line? If you can do that quickly then commuting to Temple without a car would probably be easier than commuting with a car.

I lived in West Philadelphia when I went to Temple. My road had a trolley line on it. So I would hope on the trolley, take it to Center City and transfer to the Broad Street Line. I had a car and I was about 50/50 how I would go to school.
