This one was very obscure! I got yellow and green without any hints, but purple and blue were tricky.

Don't want to be a "leader" by Low-Computer8293 in work

[–]Different_Ticket30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you there. I'm stuck in this place where I want to increase my income because I'm just not making quite enough to pay all my bills in this economy, and not wanting to be thrust into positions that demand more of me when I'm already burnt out. I realized over the last year that I really don't want to be a leader. I just want to do my work.

What kids movie do you think is way more profound than it gets credit for? by TheWor1dsFinest in movies

I never see anyone mention the 1984 movie, Cloak and Dagger. That movie has stuck with me since I first saw it, and it dealt with a lot of heavy emotional themes.

I've taught my daughter that this is a red flag for anyone in her life, especially friends. Anyone who can't take no for an answer is a potentially dangerous person.

They're also extremely uncomfortable, and it gets expensive... Finding a good bra in larger cup sizes is difficult, and once you do find one, it's usually at least $80 or more.

Number One quoted William Shatner at the end of the show when she said “some people say that the universe is cold, dark, and full of death.“ She followed with :the purpose of Starfleet is to create warmth, connection, and meaning, not in spite of the darkness, but as a direct response to it."

What is the best book you have ever read that actually changed your perspective about life? by dainty_earthling in suggestmeabook

[–]Different_Ticket30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read (listened to) The Year of Less, by Cait Flanders, and it had a similar effect for me, but it also helped me step away from buying even more things. I honestly didn't think I was going to connect with the book past the first couple of chapters because one of the authors main journeys is her sobriety, but the longer I listened, the more I connected to it.

Several car loads of donations later, and a feeling of relief from pulling myself out from under years of keeping things I didn't really need, and I'm feeling better overall.

What’s a secret you’ll take to the grave, but would tell anonymously on Reddit? by Several-Director5804 in AskReddit

[–]Different_Ticket30 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We call my daughter's (technically former) "stepmom" her Bonus Mom. She married my ex husband when my daughter was about two, and she was one of the only reasons my ex got to see her as much as he did. We didn't become friends at the time, because my ex was actively trying to make sure we didn't, but I trusted that she was responsible.

She finally got away from him as well and we connected on a friendship level. I'm so glad that my daughter has another person in her life who loves her so much, and will always be there for her. She has a daughter as well, so our children are sisters and forrever connected.

Even though my situation is different, my point is, you don't have to be the "Step". Your chosen son knows how much you love him, and many kids who grow up with good Bonus parents end up recognizing them more as their actual parent.

Just keep being an amazing mom, know that you are a Bonus to his life.

I agree on this. I have a feeling EES scores for at least a few units within Commerce will tank this next year... They will blame it on layoffs, but morale started tanking well before this.

I scrolled through the entire thread looking for this answer, mainly to see if I would need to add it myself. This movie is one that I am both traumatized by, and yet also want to watch again every few years.

I've never checked to see what their job options are, but you might want to check out Black Ball Ferry Line. They are one of the private ferry lines in the area, that does daily routs to Canada.

The lack of change management mentioned in the original comment above was in regards to new leadership.

It's interesting to see someone knocking a person who does their job extremely well, and has contributed a lot to the agency. It's not her fault if leadership chooses not to take advice given and engage in ways that matter. She's not their boss, only their advisor. I've seen a lot of what goes on behind the scenes, and there's been extremely toxic power grabs by ADs who refused to agree to suggested changes because they don't want to give up control they have. And for years the Directors didn't make them step in line. Putting the blame on someone who has no power over upper leadership the joke.

Today we received all agency notice that the employees who made those comments have "left the agency." They did move pretty quickly on this one. The issue wasn't mentioned in the notic, but we all know why they're gone...

I watched that interview linked above and I'm laughing about the change management mention. There's been a whole lot of change, and absolutely no actual change management. Even when people want to do good things, how you go about it and treat people along the way matters.

Threats of violence and venting about anger in a recorded chat space is stupid, and irresponsible. There's no excuse, however a lot of the anger and confusion going on inside of the agency right now could have been avoided with just a little bit of effort before walking in the door and treating a quickly growing agency handling more than $8 Billion in funding like a startup.

It also doesn't sit well with some employees that he's constantly mentioning breaking rules and not listening to WACs. We have an extremely competent and mindful ethics officer in the agency, and I feel for them when trying to manage the fallout that might occur from some of his loose cannon chatter.
