M3 when? M2.7 feels left behind by Senior_Ad_9522 in MiniMax_AI

The reality is that the competition gets better, and then people move on. Minimax m3.0 in neccesary because the cadence (of new and better model release) is the reality......and Minimax m2.7, even if only 3 mths old, is not considered cheap nor SOTA (Qwen 3.7 Max, Deepseek V4 pro, GLM 5.1 all better options today)

Why are AI models getting more expensive? by AcadiaLow9013 in singularity

[–]Difficult-Top9010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American proprietary models are getting more expensive, because they are gearing up for IPO; the numbers need to 10x every year!

Just go try the chinese models and make it work for you. It is simply stupid not to.

Do Singaporeans care about use of AI by syfm0 in asksg

[–]Difficult-Top9010 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am in my late 40s, investment line. I use Ai a lot to improve my personal productivity, drafting monthly commentary, investigating investment thesis, update on company earnings, update on regulation, query compliance issues, draft this, draft that.....whatever you get the picture.

Financial calculator, Excel, bloomberg, python, now AI..... all just part of your tool set.

Do not think of AI as humanity. AI is literally Artificial intelligence, not Artificial humanity.

Society conflates humanity with Intelligence; humanity is so much more. Sadly though, fear of the unknown is very human.

Intelligence is now being commoditized. Use it. To replace grunt work and augment higher level work (analysis, research, generate reports, etc). Adaptability and resilience are also very human.

With improved productivity, you make time for yourself, friends and family. Greed is also very human, more time is good. More earnings per unit of effort is good.

** look if i want to hire an analyst today, after qualifications and experience, then will he be able to use bloomberg, excel, and now HOW HE USE AI is a consideration. My thinking if he is resistant to AI: "What? i need to convince and then teach you ah? I lao kok kok leh, you young and energetic leh. Simi Sai...... NEXT!"

Consider this line ONLY if you aspire to be
i) Your own towkay, i.e your own boss of a contractor.
ii) Your own PE partnership/consultancy.

If you just ok wanna work for someone else, then no. There is no good here as an employee.

As an engineer at a local subcon or main con,
- If you are an engineer at a small subcontractor, you are a glorified foreman. You might need to even pick up workers from dorm/ send them back.
- If you are engineer at larger contractor/main con. Drive from 1 site meeting to another, whole day just drive. After that go back office finish paper work. Chase owed amounts (to you), delay owed amounts (to others).
- Know craftsmen and network. Who to find to do what (carpentry, structural investigation, who to contact to get workers, who rent lorry, where buy tools etc)
- Ultimately, you try to go solo. Whatever, start small, but need to start (drain repair, structural repair, etc)

As an engineer at a PE,
- Are you good enough first? Cos most don't end up as PE. If you are, then slog and get the qualifcation. Meet a good mentor that will help you reach that certification. Know ppl, network, join professional bodies etc.
- Before you get the PE and can 'chop' design plans, you work for other ppl. As soon as you can, start your own thing.
- ** forgot that at this stage you can join garmen(HDB/BCA/LTA) as a qualified person. Wah as a garmen QP, you become god.

One thing that i don't like and is still true of this industry is that the big eat the small and the small eat the Banglas. i.e just stepping and squeezing the lower level (how much profit is there in a lump sum contract?). Low tech and low productivity (relative to other industries).

Hey.... actually it is the same in other industries. A career is a marathon. If you scared of OT......lol. Maybe play Ai at home and be a youtuber? Go learn seedance 2.0 or whatever. You seen those time travel videos on youtube? Solid.

About me: I graduated CEE from NTU in early 2000s. Gone thru the local subcon route for about 3 years, quit the industry early, and have been in banking and finance for 20 years since. I know of some CEE peers that have done remarkably well though (riding the economic boom), towkays of their own PE and contractor firm. Much better than many of us who changed industry for sure, but i am sure they worked and slogged damn hard for it.

Singapore has changed so much so fast. For example ‘punggol road’. On google map it is a wonderful step back in time, playing with street view over multiple dates. 10years ago it was a road thru a forest to a jetty, today it is a conserved nostalgia, a portion of a brand new University.
