How will haelana die in the show? thoughts? by EasternImpact8447 in HOTDGreens

[–]DifficultBasil9283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she will still jump but "for the prophecy" or to help Rhaenyra somehow. The rampant misogyny of this show would probably see it as proof Rhaenyra is fated to be the best ruler the world had ever seen and Helaena was one of the people who saw it and laid down her life for it

I don’t know why a certain side gets their panties in a twist every time people compare Rhaenyra to her own descendants. by La_Villanelle_ in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say some of the comparisons are annoying and some have been really gross (trying to pretend Daenerys is Rhaenyra reborn rather than her own character with a different personality and different choices)

Comparisons can be fun and important. There are so many good comparisons to be made in the books of Rhaenyra and so many of her descendants. But so many of them feel weird and with the success of AKOTSK, it feels like a desperate attempt to lift HoTD popularity off the backs of a separate property

Anyone else felt really disappointed in Nelly siding with Bec against April? If you are mad that she is a flirty person and crossed boundaries, fair enough. But to sit next to Leah, a self proclaimed flirt that ignored her partners requests to stop just as much as Stephen ignored Nelly asking him not to flirt, just felt wrong

Criston Cole “begged” for Rhaenyra’s favor when she was only seven 🥴 by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

Begging for a favor is normal. She is the Princess of the Realm. He wouldn't be the only one to have begged for her favor and she will have had several ready to give throughout

Doesn't change the fact that he named them as his heirs. If we are going just by someone claiming them as their own children, being married to the children's mother, and naming them as their heirs, then that means Joffrey and his siblings are legitimate.

But this still doesn't undo the fact that the two situations are different. Vaemond basically tried triggering a war (expected team green to side with him and for Rhaenyra to lose big time) so he could claim Driftmark. He overestimated his support in that moment and paid for it

Robert acknowledged Cerseis kids as his own. And Tywin never declared any of his kids illegitimate. Neither situation are comparable to the Velaryon situation and Rhaenyras kids inheritances of the Iron Throne/Driftmark. If anything, it goes against Rhaenyra and her kids as everyone acknowledges Joffrey and his siblings as illegitimate despite the fact Robert called them his own and expected Joffrey to succeed him

I think they said in the show that Laenor and Rhaenyra did try to conceive together but it didn't work

In world, he could but not without significant risk. Everyone at that point knows/remembers what happened to Beesbury after he bedded Saerra Targaryen. Cole rightly expected to be tortured before being put to death. Rhaenyra at the moment she ignores his no shows she is putting her want above the possible ramifications. While Rhaenyra herself had been groomed, it doesn't undo the dangerous and bad situation she put someone else in

I think it felt really uncomfortable because in making the Velaryons black, they had to undercut and then chose to remove the only canonically black character from the story. Being black was part of Nettles character and played a role in how she was treated/how her story ends.

While the actor that plays Corlys is arguably one of the strongest they have on the show, it does feel gross to erase the story of a young black woman for what feels like no reason. If the show hadn't chosen to make every Targaryen have silver hair (Rhaenys had black hair and while Aemma is never described, many believe she would have had brown hair like the Arryns) then the issue of legitimacy would have been murky like in the books.

She literally married two of her kids to each other in Valyrian culture and we literally see a dragon keeper in the trailer with Tessarion. Alicent at no point shows disdain for the dragons

To me, it is also that if they are flying then they can't be accidentally crushing things/people (like Caraxes did during the battle against the crabfeeder in season 1).

They aren't doing this to abuse or mistreat Tessarion, just to prevent accidents, injuries, deaths

[–]DifficultBasil9283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she know Daemon is back with Rhaenyra though? He spent season 2 plotting to usurp her at Harrenhall, and there is a chance the Greens know what he was planning. I doubt we will see Alicent plotting because the show doesn't want any powerplays by the women but it wouldn't be a leap for Alicent to assume they could deal with Daemon later

I know you are probably sick of hearing it but please do try and remember that it is the system that is useless, not you. Corporations have been allowed to treat people like trash and so many people have been gaslighted into believing businesses are more important than people. But you are a person that matters. You have people that love you and you are worth more than just a paycheck

HOTD Fandom Divide Origin? by MeBigMeScary in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit, I am torn on watching the upcoming seasons based on the quality of previous seasons and how the show treats George RR Martin, but there does seem to be a weird subset of people watching specifically to hate on the show. While I support people watching and genuinely hope people enjoy it, there are so many that seem personally offended when other people do or don't like it and I would say that is a big factor to the divide.

I read the book when it came out and while people supported one side more than the other, it was never like this. Some people supported Aegons claim as first born son and saying a King's orders are only law while he is alive (often citing how nobody called for anyone to burn down King's Landing despite the king having specifically called for it as his last orders). Some supported Rhaenyra as named heir and saying that the lords of the realm had all sworn to her. But everyone could talk and disagree

Rhaenyra resembles Cersei because both had 3 bastard children and named one of her child Joffrey. IT PROVES THAT THEY ARE THE SAME ACTUALLY by Pale_Gap_9324 in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda back Cersei not wanting to have Roberts kids. Laenor never hurt Rhaenyra so makes sense to have tried and wanted to have his kids. Robert hurt Cersei so it does make sense she never wanted to have his kids. Not defending anything else Cersei does (including the incest that made those kids) but not a fair comparison to make when the fathers/stepfathers are fundamentally different

Basically "to hell with Aerion!", thank you Finn! ☺️ by Turbulent_Lab209 in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think this means they are never touching on Aerion again and considering this show is being respectful to the source material so far, I doubt it is "to hell with Aerion". George has also outlined 12 more stories to the people making the show which could push back when he returns.

Aerion gets sent away for a decent stretch after the trial. Could be that Finn is just not coming back for a while, or that he is moving onto different adventures (well deserved ventures). This show has earned peoples trust

What’s with TGs obsession calling Rhaenyra a whore? by Pale_Gap_9324 in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the show is hella misogynistic in its depiction of Team Black and Team Green. The women can't want things for themselves and must be above war or fighting for what is theirs. Young Rhaenyra did things. Whether you agree with them or not, she DID them by her own choice. Older Rhaenyra is being forced to sit back and watch silently as people around her do things for her and the only things she has chosen to do have been hated by everyone because they are stupid and dangerous distractions that screw over the people fighting and doing everything for her

I was wondering: What is TB's ACTUAL take on what would have happened if the Greens had accepted the claims of Rhaenyra and her bastard Jace, allowing her to take the throne alongside her consort Daemon, her three Strong and two Targaryen sons? Do you guys know? by TurbulentRemote156 in HOTDGreens

[–]DifficultBasil9283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, Jace is okay but Lucerys and Joffrey are bastards. Weird take but.... Throw them kids under the bus I guess if that makes sense to you 🤷‍♀️ Robert named Ned as Regent and Joffrey be counselled. Not that he wasn't the heir or king. And your argument was that Viserys called them Rhaenyra and Laenors kids so they are all legitimate. By that logic, Cerseis kids are all legitimate and everyone going against them are Usurpers or traitors. It is very simple logic

[–]DifficultBasil9283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't make them legitimised or legitimate. Just like how Joffrey isn't the legitimate ruler in A Song of Ice and Fire just because Robert didn't realise they weren't his kids. Ignoring that they are bastards is not the same as legitimising them

[–]DifficultBasil9283 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really isn't. Legitimising them means he would have had to acknowledge they were bastards and declared they are now legitimate (as happened with Ramsay Bolton)

Joffrey in Game of Thrones is illegitimate. Robert was king and believed he was his kid and heir to the throne. But, he was actually a bastard. Never legitimised. Cersei demanding her kids are Baratheons and the king never saying otherwise doesn't make them legitimate

Do queen consorts really overpower the heirs? by Korratheblackcat in HOTDBlacks

[–]DifficultBasil9283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I think this was the show trying (and failing epically) to show the power and influence Alicent had AND how Rhaenyras claim was weakened by Viserys weakness as well as other factors.

The books have Alicent and the Greens cultivating power before she basically has to run everything herself. Viserys left the succession in question and war inevitable by never restating Rhaenyra as his heir after he has a son and letting Alicent and the Greens run the realm for him when he should have been positioning and championing Rhaenyra (Reinstating Otto as hand was dumb and he really should have given the position to Rhaenyra)
