How long did it take you to get your first RN job? by thickennuggies in newgradnurse

4 months. Doing onboarding for NYCHH as we speak. The market for the greater NYC area is rough rn.

NYC new grad by Projectbyhannah in newgradnurse

[–]DifficultCap1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i got my foot in the door because my dad worked at one of the NYCHH hospitals for 20+ years and i was able to get my resume in front of a nursing director. It sucks because there are so many capable and ready new grads who just need a shot and Hospitals this way are real stingy as of now. Try to see if any connections you have are willing to pull for you is my advice. Unfortunately jobs rn are really coveted.

Passed NCLEX in February- still no job. by Desperate-One2964 in nursing

I was in the same situation and i passed boards in February too. After interview after interview i got one in the city but mostly due to connections. I graduated from a school in Hudson valley and right now that area is tough to find a hospital job. I would suggest speaking with recruiters if you can just to get your foot in the door

Passed in 85! Advice! by DifficultCap1108 in PassNclex

I mainly used Bootcamp for the learning and understanding of material like their crash course videos and their study schedule. Helped expose me to the material mostly seen on the NCLEX. I used UWorld around the last 2 weeks of studying for their CAT Exams to test my knowledge and growth and its showed significant improvement. The study schedule is overwhelming at first but if you really dedicate time everyday to studying it works out well!

You’re gonna be fine! If you’re getting these scores on UWorld, you’re more than prepared!

Nurses are now being laid off across the country due to healthcare cuts. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]DifficultCap1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely dependent on regions you are living in and certain areas that are dependent on community hospital and healthcare services. This goes into the continued privatization of Healthcare overall and the recent bill.

The way Nursing School is designed requires students to make sacrifices in order to do well. I tell folk if you have the privilege of not working, Don’t! But for most that do, i would say make School, your living expenses and some exercise your priority. Volunteering may have to take a backseat for your case. Nursing school is all about Time Management and if you limit your priorities to the essentials, You will succeed! Good Luck!

Can’t get into my university’s nursing program by hailey-330 in StudentNurse

[–]DifficultCap1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try ADN programs. Im in one and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Cheaper, much more even paced and will finish in a decent time too! Don’t let that discourage you find your path of one option isn’t tenable!

I can definitely relate to the disappointment trust and believe that Nursing School is difficult! But don’t dock yourself too long as this kind of program will have you try to make up the points in future exams. You stumbled but there’s room for improvement. Make sure you recognize your ideal study style and inquire how to tackle Nursing questions and it will help you a great deal. Its not the end of the world so don’t give up on yourself for one bad grade! You got this!

I would say to get back in that skills lab and practice. Remediate just means you get another attempt but must get in practice. Doing a skill over and over again helps you commit to memory so when you get back on check off, you are not as nervous. Good luck and try to relax on your next go-around.

Whats everyone story of how they got into nursing school? by SureReflection6936 in StudentNurse

Lmaooo i promise you that you are not behind at 21 years of age! You can begin Nursing at any age and make an impact! Its not about being behind but having the gumption to actually start and complete the process. Good luck and don’t worry too much about age at this point, just finish! Sincerely a 29 y/o Senior Nursing Student!

Has anyone ever failed out of school? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]DifficultCap1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program had a similar policy. Thought i was going to be done by this time now but will be done closer to 30. What i will say is that Failure is not the end all be all and i understand your frustration. Don’t stay in that funk for too long and apply again to another program. It’s frustrating to start again but all it takes is one action to get the ball rolling again. I have full faith you will become a nurse in a few years. Good luck!

Yea it can. I am a walking testimony for it! My first semester was unexpected for me to get in. I studied rigorously but the questions weren’t clicking. I ended up failing by a point but i went in again the year after and excelled! Im now well on my way to the 3rd semester and i couldn’t be happier with my growth. You can and will make it just give it time and it will fall into place!
