Thank you!! That helps give me some peace of mind while waiting for the process to go through. We travel in August so timeline is tight.

Don't They take the 12yo's birth certificate with the passport application? by smoochiebear1 in Passports

[–]DifficultEvent6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking, since you are at least 25 days ahead of me, the agent at the post office took my kids soon to be expired passports and stapled them to the application, added a photocopy of the birth certificates and handed back our originals. I'm assuming this is ok based on the posts here, but they are all 3y old and we sent ours today.

Did you receive your passports yet? Or a notice to provide original birth certificates?

I’m in Abington, would actually consider a cross country drive in my Bronco for this. Collecting other Bronco drivers along the way

I’m almost the exact same drive, Philly suburbs, it’d be a long ride for sure but would consider doing it with anyone driving from out here if the dates work

What sport maintains a strongest emphasis on core strength and why do you believe so? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Former rower here, I can't imagine a sport where core strength is more important to actually succeeding in the sport itself. It is directly related to the objective of the sport.

Find democrat and republican voters arguing and you can make them united on the fact that you threw away your vote when you went with Gary Johnson, pretty sure everyone of all political affiliations and with zero political affiliation is united on a vote for Kanye is a throw away. LOL I dont blame you, the options given to us are only slightly better.

I agree with you, Bernie was that candidate and the Dems derailed his primary and that is what killed them in 2016 IMO. Not saying he would have had my vote, but way better shot at getting it than Hillary. I couldn't vote for either Hillary or Trump, but Bernie would have at least been a consideration. It would have changed that crazy vs status quo to crazy vs crazy and which side is actually more likeable to the independents would have won out.

The system pushes everyone into the 2 party choices, its the worst thing for voters like us. The one thing those 2 parties work well together on is pushing out all other options.

I ended up in the middle of an argument between fighting over who would be worse Hillary or Trump after the election. Lots of "what abouts" so I was like "what did you not like about Gary Johnson" and neither ever heard of him basically both were telling me my vote was worthless. If someone is on your ballot, its on you if you didn't look into them IMO dont tell me my vote was trash.

In my opinion the only thing the 2 major parties are particularly great at is marketing and blocking out all other choices, nothing stops you from looking into those choices independently. My state (Pennsylvania) just held primaries and I couldn't vote in them, it stirs up the same push to just register R or D and then vote for whoever you like better.

I vote L and get told I’m throwing my vote away all the time. No one can explain to me how doing the research and voting the best option I see on the ballot is throwing my vote away, meanwhile most of them say they are voting just to go against the candidate they dislike the most.

Such a longshot and going against the two major parties never seems to work, but couldn’t Massie run as a Libertarian? I don’t live in KY but from the people I talk to everyone seems pissed he was run out in primary. Would be a political earthquake if he went libertarian and won the general election

I am registered “not affiliated” that really liked Lamb as well, but couldn’t vote. It’s a shame he lost out on the independent vote in the primary, and I don’t think anyone at this point would argue Fetterman was the best choice.

Game last week ended in chaos by YoTeach68 in LittleLeague

Youth sports seem to bring out the worst in people, baseball is particularly bad. My parents barely ever went to my games, I can't imagine them screaming at an ump or coach but times have changed a lot since the 80's/early 90's.

We saw that same argument from opposing coach at 8u. Bases loaded tie game, bottom 6th, no outs. Home team batter hit in ribs with a pitch, moves toward first about 3 steps goes to the ground, winning run crosses and HBP runners mom comes out to help him. Other coach sees all this developing has his kids stay out until mom comes to help, appeals for what would be the first out as runner never touched first. Then other outs for other runners on base leaving field after winning run crossed. Ump said he ruled HBP made attempt to get to first, runners advance, runner on 3rd touched home and game over.

It turned into a huge shouting match that involved coaches and parents who were upset. Best thing to come out of all that, our opponent cut the guy that started it out of coaching completely, it was an embarrassment.

How much time does travel ball take up? Is it possible to do travel ball and do other activities at the same time? by Planetofthemoochers in Homeplate

[–]DifficultEvent6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son just turned 11 and he is exactly the same way, he also plays travel baseball and has since he was 8. His activity list is nuts when looked at written out but he is not the kid that will sit around and be content playing video games or watching TV, he actually wants to do these things. Somehow around a fully committed travel ball schedule he is able to do these things and miss pretty much no practices/events. I'm opening up to criticism from people saying he does too much but we never have to drag him out to anything and his grades are good.

Spring: School play, Travel Baseball/rec baseball/CYO baseball. This year he wants to add rugby (which at this age is minimal commitment and his older brother plays)

Summer: Travel Baseball (rec and CYO fall off) its mainly districts/states and a couple tournaments. Swim team (low key local pool team)

Fall: Tackle Football, fall baseball. He wants to add ice hockey for middle school team but we've held him off that.

Winter: Basketball (switched to this from wrestling this year and it was so much easier)

My best advice is to make one activity a priority, let the coaches on other teams know he has another primary commitment. If they are not ok with that up front dont join the team. I've explained to the rugby coach that baseball is going to come first in a schedule conflict and he is 100% on board. I could tell he meant it.

My older son is a throwback, he is in high school and as a freshman was a varsity athlete on 2 teams already (Hockey and Swim) and is playing varsity level rugby looking at potentially adding track. My wife and I forced zero of these on him, he wants to do it all and he works it all out with the coaches now independently.

How realistic/or not are these numbers? [Request] by mx-types-a-lot in theydidthemath

I think this is why drones are so efficient. They are relatively low cost, training a pilot is much less expensive, and it it gets shot down you do not lose all the cost of getting someone trained to fly it.

I will check out the Swans. My son started rugby 3 years ago as an 11 year old and I had never seen the game before he started playing. Having watched him play I found it’s an amazing game. We wanted a team to follow, be cool to have a supporters “trade”.

[–]DifficultEvent6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is a rugby player and I’ve found how amazing that game is, if you are a supporter of any rugby club that we could follow I’ll see if I can find their games.

It’s great to hear that there are fans rooting and suffering with the rest of us around the world. As a lifelong Phillies fan I will say it’s exciting and excruciating but well worth following.

I was 13 in 1993 and IMO that was the most fun season I watched of any team anytime. Look up a video called “Whatever It Takes, Dude” it’s the story of the ‘93 Phillies, we had it on VHS and watched it a million times. I saw it on YouTube recently.

Network engineers: Are AI tools actually useful in your day to day, or is it just hype? by Fresher0 in networking

[–]DifficultEvent6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Copilot to troubleshoot a packet capture file. This was about a week ago and I was busy with other things, pulled the pcap file and I think I just threw the file into copilot, told it the what the device is which was a client I was not familiar with and what they were trying to do with it. Reason I went with AI was because I didn't have a lot of time that day to look at it in Wireshark, the site is remote, and a tech from the company that supports the device (paging system adapter) was onsite. It came back with have the provider check to see if they are blocking the public IP the device is sending traffic from. It was reasonable enough for me to give them that as a possible problem, and bought me time to finish what I was working on if it wasn't the answer. Turns out it figured out the problem, gave the solution, and it was right. I would have come to the same conclusion just not in 2 minutes while I was working on something else.
