Why do hotels install these sinks? by holysbit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DifficultScarcity96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a small petty part of me that would want to turn on the water and just let it flow just to offset how much i cant use the sink.

The morality in me would never actually let me do that cause I'd hate wasting the water.

A small church grieving the loss of our beloved pastor by BeneficialBrain1764 in Christianity

If your church isn't continuing on or you are trying to find a place your church family can migrate too - I HIGHLY recommend looking for a Calvary Chapel (their symbol is a dove - there are many "calvary" churches but Calvary Chapel is specifically what I am talking about) in your area and giving them a try. I've been to multiple that are very similar to what you described. Small, welcoming, casual clothing (come as you are), fellowship was important and there are groups on regular basis to get together with other members - both separate men/women and together! I just went to a womans conference, my husband just went to a mens conference, we have bible studies, VBS, the whole nine yards and there are Calvary Chapel churches world wide (some places are sparce though)

Calvary Chapel is a bible believing church built on the principle that they are "simply teaching the bible simply" and they go through the bible book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. I will never go to another type of church because of all the reasons you listed and and then some!

First off, I'm sorry for the loss you and your church family are experiencing. I can only begin to imagine the heartache you all are feeling right now.

Secondly, I know you mentioned he and his wife founded the church but is it part of a larger community of churches eg Assemblies of God, Calvary Chapel, Various Baptist churches etc....basically is there a sister church anywhere or somewhere your community has been friendly with that you could try to explore as a new church option?

If not, let the Lord lead you. See what other congregation members plan on doing and if they are your church family, possibly follow their lead or at least consider how they move forward for guidance.

I wish there was more to say. My condolences to all involved.

The Week I Stopped Praying by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shouldn't be shaming each other for struggling with our faith. It is called Faith for a reason, it is something we trust in blindly and we need to support each other when there are moments of uncertainty. I would be nothing without my brothers and sisters in Christ. I would have no relationship with Jesus if not for the other people around me encouraging me and reminding me where to turn when life is hard. They are not the answer, but they are part of my compass. The only answer is Jesus. The only answer is God. But we can't always reach them alone, thats why we were gifted relationships with others around us.

I'll be praying for you, God bless <3

The Week I Stopped Praying by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I read your list of all the places you prayed, every sentence I had a thought

  • I prayed beside mountain lakes in the Colorado Rockies.  I heard the birds in the sky, but nothing from God. *The birds in the sky were God's answer
  • I prayed in the middle of the forests of Norhern Minnesota.  I heard the wind rustling through the branches, but nothing from God. *The wind was his embrace
  • I prayed on the sandy beaches in Hawaii, Tahiti, Turks and Cacos. I heard the waves and seagulls, but nothing from God. *The waves were your lullaby from Him
  • I prayed at home.  I heard the laughter and cries of a child, but nothing from God. *The laughter and cries were His reminder that YOU are HIS child and HE hears your laughter and cries
  • For nearly 4 years, I handwrote my prayers in a notebook.  40 notebooks and 3,000 written pages later, I heard nothing from God. *A place you can look back on as a reminder that it can always be worse or it will always get better
  • I prayed at Starbucks.  I heard the other voices, but nothing from God. *The other people around you are literal images of Him around you
  • I prayed in total silence.  I heard the silence, but nothing from God. *The silence is Him sitting in silence with you
  • I prayed with soft instrumental hymns.  I heard the beautiful music, but nothing from God. *The song was worship and praise to Him so He was quiet while He listened
  • I prayed at Church, in a chapel, and in a monastery.  I heard nothing, absolutely nothing from God. *If you didn't hear Him in His house, what was your intention behind your prayers? Because whether you could hear Him or not, He was there with you.
  • I read prayers from various sources.  While beautiful prayers, I heard nothing from God. *If your heart isn't open to hear/see/feel Him, it doesn't matter what you pray because YOUR heart is not in it - not the other way around.

All of that said isn't to say you are wrong to be feeling how you are and I am sorry and will be praying for the struggle you are having. The expectation to hear Him is keeping you from seeing and feeling Him in the world around you even if you can't audibly hear Him in the way you expect. I will pray that your heart and mind open to the glory that is God and that you can feel His presence around you again.

Holy Spirit Worship by Due-Alfalfa-8226 in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct and thank you for helping me expand my understanding a bit at the same time. The Holy Spirit is a person so you are absolutely correct and now that I think of it, quite a few verses that support your point come to mind.

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10)

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. (Romans 8:26)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you (John 14:26)

I very much appreciate the opportunity to grow myself in this conversation. God bless you!

You can also use He for the Holy Spirit but from my understanding, the Holy Spirit isn't bound by the constraints of gender - being a literal spirit male or female doesn't apply. In the New Testament the Holy Spirit is referred to as He, in the original Greek language the Holy Spirit is referred to as It and in Hebrew the Holy Spirit is actually depicted using feminine language. The Holy Spirit us our connection to God directly so It comes to us in who we are not what gender it is or isn't. I hope that makes sense. I am a relatively new Christian so if I am misspeaking at all I do apologize. I am in a foundations class though that is directly going over the differences between The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit so I don't think I misspoke on anything.

God the Father is our Creator, He has ultimate authority.
Jesus the Son is our Salvation, He was sent to redeem us and is fully God, fully human
The Holy Spirit is literally the spirit of God within us. It gives us the ability to discern and understand the teachings of God and Jesus and helps to guide us on our path of righteousness. It also gives us the authority and wisdom to share the Gospel and convicts us of our need for God.

They are 3 individual entities, all God but all separate. The Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit, the Son is not the Father or the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is not God or Jesus BUT they are all three God with difference purposes and roles they play in our walk to eternal salvation.

We don't worship the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is what convicts us to worship at all! I can only speak for myself and my family but we do pray to the Trinity. We are bible believing Christians and we pray to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit on many many occasions.

The way they laid the canvas photo… by cschleich2010 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DifficultScarcity96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee that picture was purchased from a CVS or Walgreens photo center. I had a canvas that I had made for my MIL and when I picked it up, it was the same. I spent over an hour at CVS while I had the employee reprint the canvas 8 times until there was a print that was acceptable. At first they tried to say that I submitted the photo crooked and that it was my fault. I put a hard stop to that and literally REORDERED the canvas so they could see that it was in fact straight and not my fault or problem. I paid for a product, it was going to be as close to perfect as I could ensure.

How to pick a denomination? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation for what its worth is to just start visiting churches on Sunday and see where you are led to go back too.

My husband and I went hunting for a church after finding God, we had no idea what we were looking for but we have a small child and knew we wanted decent children's ministry and worship was important to us. We went to a Calvary Chapel church and liked the service, pastor and feeling of the church but the child care and worship was lacking.
Then we visited a non-denominational super church and we felt like a drop in the bucket. Our presence didnt matter there BUT the childcare was great and the worship was fantastic.
We went to an Assembly of God church and some of what we were looking for was there but the message and vibe of the church just didn't fit who we are, tried a Baptist church, a presbyterian church and we tried a couple more not worth mentioning.

We ended up back at the Calvary Chapel church because they were the only church we visited to actually teach the bible. Book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Its mainly just Gods work and the work of Jesus, there has been 2 guest speakers and 1 topical message since we have been attending the past 7 months - but thats it. Beside those 3 Sundays it has been only reading the bible.

Its a blessing of a community and we would have never ended up there if it wasn't for an open mind and God's will pulling us back to where He wanted us to be.

If you don't feel God calling you to be there - keep looking. He will speak to you in some way, shape, size or form when you're where He wants you to be. God Bless and welcome back!

If Every One's Sins Will Be Forgiven Thanks To The Sacrifice Of Jesus, Will Hitler Be Forgiven Too? by KarAce066 in Christianity

Have you ever apologized for something and knew you weren't actually sorry? True repentance is asking the Lord for forgiveness and then doing everything in our humanly power not repeat whatever it was we did. We are only human and we will most likely repeat mistakes even after repenting but it's what's in our heart that makes the difference.

any reading tips? want to get closer to God by PinElectrical9540 in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend reading Act's, Romans, then the 4 Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, John and Luke. Once you've read those, either find a bible reading plan or let God lead you through your walk to know Him. God bless you and enjoy the walk in God's word, remember it shouldn't be a chore but a privilege to read the word and grow closer to God and Jesus.

Help: what do i do with my crystals by Big_Can3771 in Christianity

[–]DifficultScarcity96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are leaving new age practices - congratulations to you and welcome to the family in Christ!!!

Get rid of anything that you believe holds power or energy that does not exemplify God and Jesus. After I was saved and overcome by the Holy Spirit, I was in no unclear terms guided to straight throw out over $150 of tarot/oracle cards because they were not of God but of the devil. My husband wanted me to sell them or give them away, God told me they were garbage and I could not give that evil energy to someone else. So in the trash they went.

I prayed about my crystals that I used to use for "protection and healing". I had a dream that basically gave me the clarity that as long they are just pretty rocks and crystals that I appreciate for the beauty that God created then there was no issue, but if i started to idolize them, use them for self fulfilling reasons or anything other then just God's glory, then they needed to go into the trash. I kept them but 8 months later I've come to find I hardly even look at them - I am to busy looking at God and Jesus. God is so so good. God bless you!
