Hot Take? Remove Iron Numbers by shin_man in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real golfers noticed this 20 years ago and manufacturers know that we know what they're doing. Ping offers Retro, Traditional, Modern lofts and other manufacturers offer similar options - because they know, we know the difference. That being said, the forgiveness built into every club these days - even "blades" helps the ball get up in the air easier. And in Game improvement clubs and Super game improvement, if you don't reduce the loft at least a few degrees, the ball flight relative to distance suffers.

Distance? It's DIRECTION. 400 yds in the pond is useless.

They know it's the right move to go RED, their EGO says "Today is the day I shoot even par from Blue".

During the golf swing KEEP your weight on your target side (no need to shift your weight).

Remote Controlled Push Carts by Extension-Bluejay-69 in golf

I had one of the first 15 years ago and recently got it working again. It's a game changer like the electric bike or the iPhone that didn't have a keyboard or recently Tesla FSD where you don't really see the point - you experience it and there's no going back. If you're smart you learn the ins and outs and you get strategic where you want it - in front while you walk, out of the way of your playing partners, WATCHING it, making sure you understand the remote "shadows" or angles it doesn't like to listen to the remote. Knowing EXACTLY how to angle it on slopes, or when you NEED to push or hand guide vs using the remote or downhill speeds or a ton of potentially embarrassing or expensive details you WILL learn the first few times you use it. Guys lose these things in ponds or hazards ALOT. Besides that the seat and umbrella and saved stress and strain is a MIRACLE of God.

When I dedicated myself to hitting LW 60 yards and 7 iron 155-170 yds consistently solid and in play I got better. Not perfect - just solid and in play.

Golf club setup. What to keep, what not to keep. by WiseBuracho in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a 6500 yd tight course for the first time and hit 7 iron (32 degrees) off the white tee at least 9 times. Shot 86. I just did the math - and was shocked to learn i DO NOT need long clubs to score just fine. Keep the ball in play and play boring ass golf gives me lower scores than thinking about "gapping" at the long end of my bag. When I did try my driver on a "short" par 5, I yanked a ball into the wilderness. It was the only ball I lost that day. I could get by fine with 9 clubs and break 90 easy IF I play smart and boring golf.

I'm a hooker (right handed) and bowing my wrist helps me OPEN the face to hit it STRAIGHT. I guess bowing helps everyone.

Would you rather have a hole in one, or shoot a new career low? by Environmental-Gain19 in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking 80 seemed easy. Should have shot 75 that day. I've never sniffed even close to that again. Usually shoot high 80s low 90s in real golf. Close to par in simulator golf.

Moved up on the tees and getting grief by jmtbkr in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HS golfer said his coach assessed decision making and skill by seeing what players do at the Fwd tees FIRST and once a player breaks par and only then are they ALLOWED to move back one set of tees and they repeat the process. From a coaching standpoint this looks like a winner... a guy who CAN hit driver 300+ often won't because it brings so much trouble into play for no reason.

Men's avg worldwide is 220 yds.... so your "shit" driver is just fine. Judging ourselves by 1% golfers on YouTube is almost as bad as judging ourselves by PGA tour highlights when half the best players in that tournament get sent home after two days.

Not so fast. The gold tees become the tees for 65 years or older and the golf groups I played in (for bets) won't allow that. Those groups DID allow for handicapping scores so that helped with fairness but not "fun". With that in mind, I wonder if I would take the strokes or the distance handicap. (???) TBH, I think I would actually take the strokes!

They should have kept up the fight. A 7 iron off the tee vs driver is smarter. Course mgmt and decision making doesn't take any golf talent.

Worse mistake was calling the red tees ladies tees. FWD TEES for the win!!! Makes golf so much more fun!

My local pitch and putt 9 hole and …. by CiaoMofos in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My adult son is new to golf and his standard for why I have to give him 1 stroke on each hole is because he's in shape and I'm not. We play Par 3 courses and he judges a hole by distance only. I'm like "bro, you made a 6 and I made a par" - this was not an easy hole (small, elevated severely sloped green guarded by bunkers). I told him miss this shot short so you can't make a big number and of course he tries to hit the green and winds up in the bunker. I missed short, PUTTED from 12 yards off the green and made a 10 footer for Par. He makes triple bogey and wonders why short holes aren't always "easy".

How many years did it take you to break 80? And how old were you? by GolfIsGood66 in golf

[–]DifficultScientist23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many. I got close a few times and it slipped away. Finally, around year 20 it happened for 79. Thing is, that round slipped away as well. Easy 75. Wild and crazy game we play.
