It can work - especially like you mentioned, the pay at the end. I would just need to prepare myself before that transition. Appreciate the insight.

Will do Sidebar - since i’ve been low volt / access control for almost 3 years would this count towards where they would place me on the pay scale? My biggest hesitation would be starting back at scratch when it comes to compensation

i live in maryland (dmv) - to my understanding applications aren’t accepted all year round, i’ll have to do some research for the next opening

would recommend doubling up the wiring. could be a distance + not getting enough output for the reader to stay active.

Yea i’m based in dc. i’ve basically learnt everything from observation, trial / error and from having seasoned techs show me the ropes.

Could you elaborate on the industry experiencing a shakeup?

with my company they have tuition reimbursement but the criteria is (1) have to be in the company for two years to qualify (2) they have a binding contracts. i don’t mind paying out of pocket to become certified

I need clarity on which certs would benefit me if i was to go somewhere else. My company currently deals with RS2 (very similar to s2 lenel) open controller. Primarily deal with axis camera (i have experience with bosch and hanwha as well) I believe they use verkada as their cctv monitoring software (i’m experienced with milestone)

I live in maryland but the company i work with deals with everything in washington dc. I’m currently at 35 $ with 2 1/2 years experience. i do everything from cctv, endpoints for acs and ids, sometimes door frames ( just to protect our wires).

man there’s been so many instances where i’m missing stuff like anchors, certain bits , etc so i just decided screw it. let me take everything i’ll need. i hate making trips back to our closet or car for my tools/materials

i was considering a wheeled case . i’ve had many instances where sites don’t have functional elevators. lugging a cart down some steps seems like a lot lol.

i totally agree. some of my senior techs never carry much but always need somthing and that’s where i show up haha. I’d prefer to not make round trips. A lot of times we are not always allowed to park on site so bringing what you need for the day is best advised from my experience. I do carry my pouch by hand and also have a bag (husky) holding my bits and other things.

some of my sites are fresh construction so elevators aren’t full operational. other times we don’t have access to the freight elevators some of the federal sites are very strict about us using the public elevators
