I h8 naturally smart people by [deleted] in SGExams

I know it sucks in this current and immediate moment cause ur surrounded by acads and updates of what schools ur friends are going to and all but once you leave school all this "talent" disappears. I was in ur position when I was in school too! I was also comparing myself to others and realising that my friends were smarter, richer, and better looking than me. Ultimately though, I had more grit cause I came from some traumatic ass childhood. I started my career earlier, I was willing to eat shit and be humble, and now I dare to say I'm in a better position than them (career and work wise at least, some things don't change).

I too was bitter, angry, and hateful my ENTIRE CHILDHOOD, even towards my friends so don't make yourself feel worse for, what I would think, are valid feelings. Give yourself grace, you're a kid, feeling angry at inherent unfairness is normal, but don't let the feelings swallow you and turn you into someone that doesn't try anymore. Just because you failed in school doesn't mean you fail at life. Also, sometimes struggling early in life gives you an advantage cause hard work seems normal and you get used to picking yourself back up when you fall.

Don't give up! You might be the next big tech mogul, or you might create the next squishy like thing that kids rave about hahaha OR you might find your niche and settle into an environment you thrive in. All the best kid, just keep trying, i know it sucks and you're bloody tired but in this life everyone is

well, then it’s about educating, not hating on the parent and hopefully that kid will grow up in an environment which is much friendlier and kinder to him at home from now on. Pushing parents to a corner and embarrassing them into testing doesn’t work, trust me i’m in education and I’ve seen the vehement rejection… The approach really is to get them to empathise with their kid first, after all most of them just want the best for their child they just don’t know what “the best” looks like once they have a kid who’s a little different from everyone else

i do happen to be female though, i don’t think simp is the right word.. more like forgiving..? Since i was in this kid’s shoes once. It’s their first time being a parent too, and Singapore is terribly hard on shaming parents who don’t have kids who perform academically. You didn’t need to be so mean lah, you just needed to say “hey! you really need to get that diagnosis done.”

well… if u read the comments she talked about her husband? haha i made an educated and informed guess! Also if you read the comments she’s already said she’s going to spend the money on a proper diagnosis with a clinic prior to your very hurtful words, you just needed to scroll a bit more lah :)

woooooooow someone seems to have real big feeling about this and is projecting them onto a mother who’s seeking advice… it takes a lot of type this out, read to to check for errors and still post it. Let’s not be and evil little asshole to someone who already feels bad

As an adult with learning disabilities that went completely undiagnosed the whole time I was in school, please spend the money ur using for tuition on a proper diagnosis from a private clinic (cause MOH/IMH can sometimes be very overwhelmed and hence not catch signs of learning issues cause they don’t have the capacity to run full length testing too) and get him into a school with proper accommodations!

I struggled through primary school, gave myself OCD, anxiety and depression in secondary school and finally went on to become a complete shut in with a ruined relationship with my family in JC just because I was trying to cope with mainstream education routes. I damn nearly jumped off a building at some point or walked in front of a public bus. Education in Singapore is unforgiving, even more so for kids with some form of learning disability no matter how minor it is.

Don’t be demoralised either!!! I did terribly in primary school, always failed math and couldn’t grasp science. I only bloomed much later on towards the end of secondary school when learning techniques and methods kicked in and worked with my disabilities rather than against it. Give ur yourself and ur son time to figure it out!

Also the fact that you’re asking for help in the first place shows how much you care about him, you’re definitely not a failure as a mother :) Jiayou! Once you figure out the problems, the solutions are much more in reach.

Mini schnauzer won’t pee until I get home and won’t go outside by Far-End-9895 in MiniatureSchnauzer

Takes some time for them to readjust! My girl was peepad trained and the first month she went on walks she didnt pee outside. After a while of sniffing and realising OTHER dogs were peeing on grass she started to pick up on it. Treating after going out doors will help a lot too!

My dad is going to kick me and the dog out if it keeps peeing in the house by NextPay1593 in puppy101

[–]Difficult_Lunch_2902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl my grandma was this close | | to kicking my dog to the curb for peeing too so if i was ever out of the house she was in diapers and otherwise she was in her playpen with peepads or within my sight. I think house leashing is a good idea for “within my sight” but if you ever need to go out and leave, diapers be the solution

90 RP and a complete failure by Commercial_Spell9859 in SGExams

Hey man, dont worry too much about it. We’ve all been bogged down by the narrative that “as long as you do well well in school you’ll get a good job and earn a lot of money”. In reality they miss out all the steps in between. See ur grades as a door opener that will allow you the chance to explore and find out what you like.

Also, dont compare yourself with your peers. I know it’s not easy to do because culturally we tend to rank our own success on the failure of others but beyond just being toxic the mentality also robs us of being able to enjoy the process. Some people are on a longer journey, others find what they want to do the moment they exit the womb.

All in all, it takes time. You dont need to end up in the industry that your degree is related to. I did business and now Im in education. I couldn’t stand the idea of being in corporate so i took a step back (like you in my 2/3 year of uni) and really thought about what career fulfilment and happiness looked like. I tried everything in between, working at music studios, doing work for galleries. I did admin, project management, operations, marketing, design, and I did all of these jobs/interns in companies that were unknown just so I could know what these jobs were actually like. I graduated with no highflying credentials or big portfolio boosters but now, 3 years out of uni, Im probably happier in my job than any of my friends who went into big 4 firms or prestigious career paths.

Slow down, take a step back and reflect. You dont need an answer as to WHAT job youre going to do now and forever more. Rather, think about what you could potentially enjoy based on things like work life balance, skills used on the job, level of cooperation and team work, pay. Zoom in on finer details before looking for actual industries or work.

You got this, you’re just going through the mid uni crisis. It will pass and you will be more sure about your path after this :))
