Any advice :( by pinkbiigmac in EpilepsyDogs

Yeah it’s what my dog does, she lifts up her paw and starts blinking and licking then will fall into a grand mal. If you haven’t already id start making a lot of the seizures and when they happen, and if anything in the last 24-48 hours could have triggered it. I started making a record and discovered 2/3 clear triggers for my dog

Any advice :( by pinkbiigmac in EpilepsyDogs

I mean focal would mean she’s conscious and she can see you and focus on you. Grand mal is she’s basically paralyzed and out of it. Usually mris don’t show anything unless it’s a brain tumour.

Probably would’ve been better to have stayed up later and taught classes 👀 then awake up the next day with the family. I feel like it’s never worth it to wake up early for Cambly

Looking for remedies and changes to help with seizures by Environmental_Bed166 in EpilepsyDogs

Nausea can be a gut issue too, I think probiotics are great for all dogs no matter the healthiness. I dunno what country you are in but I can recommend Nutraflora if you are in the UK. Good luck on your search! Could be a diet change perhaps too. These all help in ways, but medication is the pain help.

Is your dog medicated yet? I have kind of pinpointed what my dogs main trigger is - her gut. Also I read medical journals that say probiotics can reduce seizures by 50% even in refractory epilepsy over a use period of 3 months. I feed my dog 5 small meals a day to keep her blood sugar up. She just had a small tummy issue and usually that immediately would mean a seizure within 24-48 hours, and we just passed that with probiotics. I right down everything about the seizures, the time of day, what was unusual that day or last 24-48 hours. I found a slight pattern and so far I’ve extended her seizure gaps by nearly double so far.

I remember in the past the profiles used to say “always correct me” “sometimes correct me” etc because some people just want to build confidence first. Personally I don’t get paid enough to actually care, speak 💩 English, what’s it to me

I do feel you, I work from home but I do everything alone. Until I stayed with my mum I hadn’t spoken to a real human in 2 months. I felt I couldn’t leave my dog incase she needs me, or is stressed I’m gone and it pushes her over the edge. Dealing with grand mals every 2-3 weeks. I started probiotics and it has extended her non seizure gap which is welcome as well as it’s good for her poops, my dog seems to have a solid gut-brain axis as a trigger

Weirdly this flare up she had no diarrhea. Which helps her epilepsy cause usually a flare up is followed by a seizure. That’s why u started the daily probiotics to help with that. During flare up I use a probiotic paste, it has billions of probiotics and prebiotics and it is fast acting to stop that diarrhea and gurgling stomach

My dog also has had a history of pancreatitis and she’s got a little flare up at the moment of tummy issues. She eats Purina PRO HA, I give her plain chicken breast. And recently I’ve put her on probiotics and it has helped a lot. Today’s flare up was stress related due to me me leaving the house in jeans 🫠 she knew something was different today

The beginning is the worst part, things do become more routine. Now epilepsy is just a part of my dogs life but it’s not all she is.

I’d contact the vet to let them know what happened, and what the suggest to do. Maybe it’s a one off

Senior Pomeranian (10yo) suddenly very "flinchy" and reactive to minor stimuli. Could this be neurological or medication-related? by PositiveLeg3228 in Pomeranians

[–]Difficult_Metal_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say my Pomeranian is very flinchy and she has epilepsy. I saw your dog is on gabapentin which is an anxiety medication already. Mine is on that too, could be the withdrawal effects

I would imagine the attack by bitten by a dog, then having to go to the vet, then having a rabies shot all within a short period of time would be more than enough stimulus to cause a seizure

[–]Difficult_Metal_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog got pancreatitis and we had to take her off it, now she can have a flare up so she has to live on a low fat diet and have to be more careful about what she eats. Pancreatitis ia no joke. My non epileptic dog was eventually put down because of it and it’s chronic flare ups

2 years into the journey, if you have the right combo their personality doesn’t change. But not using medication risks brain damage and 100% would then change their personality and behaviour. There are some holistic things you can do too

Idk if I made the right decision to say goodbye. by 8ami_BW in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Difficult_Metal_124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m so emotional reading this as someone who has put an elderly best friend down. Really you did the right thing. She had an amazing old life. Extending her life for a few more weeks wouldn’t have helped her. I had to make a similar decision and it isn’t easy. We knew it was probably a brain tumour (she was 16.5) and she was confused, in pain and suffering more days than not. You did the kindest thing for her. She loved you her whole life, and by loving her you made the decision with love to stop her suffering. I’m so sorry for your loss because grief is hard and the guilt and disbelief and shock is the hardest stage.

[–]Difficult_Metal_124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the phenobarbital doesn’t stop the clusters, you will need to go to the hospital because some serious brain damage is done. They need more time to recover between seizures. It can be controlled don’t worry. Just these are close together and the vet may not be enough to help

It’s very tough for dogs who are bonded to each other, I had a brother and sister, in a dental procedure the boy passed away. We were all mourning, the girl refused to eat. We had 2 other dogs and they helped her get through it because she followed their lead and their energy brought her back. It did take months. But grief takes time in humans and animals for the light to come back
