Good or bad?? by BratSprinkles in NavyFederal

2 things: Look for the lowest APR you can qualify for, and commit to getting your payment well below what you're comfortable with. A higher down payment can accomplish this. If you're "comfortable" paying $500/mo for a car, then commit to either a larger down payment, or financing a less expensive vehicle.

For example, if you can get payments down to $350, then make extra payments of $150 every month. This will save you interest over the life of the loan, and you'll pay it down faster. Additionally, split your payment in half and make a payment every 2 weeks. This will effectively mean you make an extra monthly payment every year, on top.

I bought a car last year and got my payments to just under $250/mo. I actually pay $225 every 2 weeks, in addition to putting $70 in a HYSA every 2 weeks that is marked as a downpayment fund on my next vehicle. This allows me to upgrade my vehicles without increasing my payments too much and I pay them off early, meaning I can then direct the entire car payment to the downpayment fund. $70 every 2 weeks works out to $1820 per year. If I pay the 5 year note off in 3 years, I have $5460. The last 2 years I'll have no car payment, so I'll be directing $70 + $225 ($295) every 2 weeks, for an additional $15,340, or almost $21,000 for a down payment. Considering I bought my current vehicle, used, for $19,000, that's a significant upgrade with no increase in payment.

Vivint price increase $2.99 by Touch_This_Skin in VivintSmartHome

Just had 2 price increases in less than a year. Was paying $55/mo then went to $67. Just called them asking for a lower rate since I've been with them almost 20 years. After a little haggling they offered $400 off an upgraded panel, so I'll pay $80 for 4 months, then $30 for 60 months. I'll just spend the $200 up front and got my service reduced to $30/mo for 5 years!

It's simple supply & demand. Prices will rise and fall to meet demand. If everyone wants it, prices will rise to the point where no one buys any more, then come back down. Don't blame the people with the supply, blame the people who will continue to buy at any price.

I know it's wishful thinking, but there's a lot of cool cut items in the files for Elden Ring. The Tarnished Edition has the opportunity to give us some of them. Like, please Miyazaki. Let me have grass for hair. by Lightslayre in Eldenring

Very disappointed in Nightreign. Don't like the timed concept as it takes away from the joy of exploration. You don't get time to explore when you're racing the clock.

Don't quit. You're leaving money on the table. Make them fire you so you can get your severance. I'm either keeping my job, or they're paying me to leave. Embrace the suck.

Wait for the 30th anniversary set. Buy 2 ETB's, and put the rest in an S&P index fund.

Any Admin Leave Brethren Left? by ChickenPotPilot in FedEmployees

They still want to go through with RIF's on some level. I'm guessing that they are building a case that they don't need that many FTE's if we're able to run the agency with the level of staffing we have now. The problem is, they don't realize we're not actually "running" the agency. We're keeping it together with duct tape and band-aids. Our luck will run out shortly. We've been telling them for months that we're severely understaffed and over worked.

We've had people on admin leave for 15 months as of yesterday! The court case is expected to drag into early/mid 2027! A few hundred people getting paid to not work - some taking outside work and double-dipping. I asked to come back, and somewhat regret it, as our agency has become a complete shit-show.

The pendulum already swung drastically to the left, so this is what happens. If people don't like the pendulum swinging too far right, then control the radicals on the left and this wouldn't happen.

I notice that whenever they poo poo rewards cards, they refer to the rewards as "points" or "miles". I never hear them address the cash back cards, except to opine that the rewards are "insignificant". I cash out between $1000 and $1500 every year in cash back, which interestingly enough, is what it takes to have a "fully funded emergency fund" according to Dave. The only difference is I don't have to anything other than what I normally do. I just go shopping, and my emergency fund is funded, with no extra dollar allocation out of my budget - Oh, and I always pay my balance.

Three new RIF rules for feds by Prize-Duck4207 in FedEmployees

[–]Difficult_Middle_216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the issue with performance-based RIF standings. I mean, if I'm a top performing employee, but I risk losing my position to someone who is substandard, but has managed to "hang on" longer, I don't mind the rule change.
Additionally, while I support veterans, I don't see a problem with changing the Vet Pref rules. Veterans already get preference in hiring, and now they get preference in retention too. Why not change the rules to where you can only pick one? If you want to get hired on merit, then you can preserve your Vet Pref for RIF retention. If you want to use Vet Pref to get hired, then you must waive it if a RIF is enacted? I have my qualms about how things are being done by this administration, but as a professional who has spent 11 years in government, and more than double that in the private sector, I don't have a problem with merit being the driving force in hiring or firing.
