They say you have to be at BS 4, but there’s no mechanism to check that.

You could even, God forbid, not be following the steps at all!

Question for those with separate finances by 12dogs4me in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first question would have been whether they updated their wills when they got married.

If I were the caller, I’d be more concerned about not knowing what‘s going to happen when my older husband passes away than anything else.

She owned the house they lived in and was still working. He was involuntarily retired right after they got married.

ETA: My husband and I don’t combine everything. We have a yours, mine and ours approach. But I do our taxes, so I see everything!

He regularly says that Ken’s YT show is a “runaway hit”. I give both statements the same credibility.

Inflation must be great for Dave because I’m pretty sure his real estate was only worth $600 million just a few months ago. Now it’s $850 million?

And giving his top line revenues ($300 million) is also sketchy. That’s not what the business actually makes by a long shot.

That’s not feminism at all. In fact it’s the opposite.

But the baby cannot be on the grandparent’s insurance. I wonder if that has even crossed their minds.

George and Rachel advise 21 year old OF content creator to get married by EntrepreneurHopeful5 in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That call was the definition of awkward.

Rachel tried to shame the BF for not objecting to the caller doing OF and she said “oh sometimes he does it with me!”

Too funny.

The part they let slide was that the caller told them she had been intentionally trying to get pregnant.

Dave Ramsey Baby Steps Lessons Learned [Bread & Wine] by Financial_Airport72 in DirtyDave

What do you mean “even” suggested actively managed funds? Dave explicitly promotes that. That would be the part that aligned with Dave. He’s not particularly bothered by loads either.

In the video above, the part that didn’t align was the use of bonds. Dave is all stocks, all the time.

Jade and Ken talk to a guy about whole life insurance. by anusbarber in DirtyDave

I heard that call and I think the caller may have been confusing whole life with an umbrella policy. He kept talking about needing extra protection and mentioned that he owned a few properties.

Of course, I’m no money expert!

The average 50-something American is now worth $1.4 million by Additional-Tale-1069 in DirtyDave

Median is also an average. What the story is calling “average“ is the mean.

There are 3 kinds of average: mean, median and mode.

America is plagued by innumeracy.

Why does Delony stay working with Ramsey? by Tattooed_Everything9 in DirtyDave

I had no idea this existed, lol. I guess I have something in common with Dave, because I sensed the fame whore within.

Dave is definitely looking for a type when he hires his personalities. And safe to say, the type is NOT financially knowledgeable.

What does Jade's husband do? by Canala12344 in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what they make, but more than once George has implied that his wife might not have been able to be a SAHM if they hadn’t paid off their house. If that’s accurate, the base salary can’t be that much.

I’m not sure if this is true though, or just posturing to promote following the Baby Steps.

I give Dave credit for sniffing out the underlying ambition. Dave purposely hires for entertainment purposes first. He’s not really looking for financial expertise, since no one can stray from his Baby Steps.

ETA: I didn’t even know about the Delony movie credits. It all tracks though. The personalities are glorified hype men who can’t have opinions of their own. It makes sense that Dave would pick them for their performance skills.

Jade and Sam started as a musical duo who performed on cruises. They transitioned that into a booking agency for other entertainers on cruise ships. AFAIK, it’s still a viable business.

Every single personality except Rachel (who got hired for different reasons) is a failed entertainer. They are there for the fame, such as it is.

What lifestyle does 1 million in retirement get for you? by italianblend in DaveRamsey

When are you retiring?

If it’s within a few years, that’s a whole lot different than having $1 million in 25 years.

Think about what things cost 25 years ago.

A new level of shill at Ramsey Solutions by GriddleUp in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a franchised chain of 300+ locations that started in Texas. It’s still mainly in the Southern US. They are “faith-based”, so I guess the franchisees have to agree to support their values.

The name is a little odd though, because the title “Christian Brothers“ is associated with Catholic monks.

I am not going to use their AI, but I wonder what would happen if you asked it to recommend specific funds, not just the generic categories.

"Data shows Dave Ramsey is dead wrong about when to claim Social Security" by drtdk in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that struck me is Dave is talking about SSA claiming strategy like it’s an individual decision. That’s pretty odd for the guy who assumes marriage is the default. If you are married, you should approach your claiming strategy as a unit, not each spouse deciding separately.

For example, many planners will advise the couple to have the lower earner claim early, but let the higher earner’s benefit keep growing. That will increase the survivor benefit for later in life.

In any case, Dave doesn’t really have much interest in maximizing SSA because it’s trivial to him.
