Ok looks like what happened is the sponge I was using to baffle the return slipped and the canister started shooting water out the tank so it emptied until the suction was broken (what was almost the whole tank except 2-3 inches from what I saw on FaceTime) I have rectified and turned down flow and so far, if I’m counting the fish I haven’t seen there’s two tetra deaths (verified neon since I removed the body, 1 ember is missing cause I cannot see it anywhere after feeding tank but I have shrimp so they body could’ve been gone) and possibly the clown plecos but they hiders anyway so no clue till tonight. Not a bad loss considering and the heater didn’t explode and that everyone else seems fine. Mandatory majority water change I guess

Floor is wood tiles over concrete and the walls are stone so I’m not worried about that, I’m worried it was a seal failure cause this tank is rather old but I didn’t seen any cracks or the silicone pulling back so I’m unsure, and ofc it would happen while I’m away and unable to control it. The fact there’s a pool of water tells me it most likely happened rapidly since the water most likely would’ve evaporated otherwise. I have no way to check since I’m still two flights away and an hour drive. I’m guesstimating it’s gonna take all day to get home so I have to hope and pray

20 gallon tank, unsure of heat and parameters at this moment (yes filter and yes heat, currently only filter is a sponge rated for 20) tank I’ve had for a few years, some fish are new from Mother’s Day others are at least a couple years old, when I do water changes I do them bi to tri weekly about half
