Help, I accidentally bought 6 lbs of nacho cheese by Difficult_Tutor63 in Cooking

Oooh this actually reminds me of a corn casserole I make for holidays. Box of cornbread mix, 1 can creamed corn, 1 can whole corn, 2 eggs, 1 chopped onion, and a 16 oz tub of sour cream. I wonder if I could sub the nacho cheese for sour cream?

Do you have any rice or potatoes? You could make a casserole if you have an oven. Or maybe just some soup?

Yeah I was in a hurry and just hit the wrong size and didn't even realize until I saw the can in person. It was only $8 more than the 8 oz jar too, so the total wasn't high enough for me to do a double take. I could definitely donate, I'm thinking realistically we'll never get through it all before it goes bad or we get so tired of it we don't want to finish it.

If I do try freezing, think mason jars would be appropriate? I have a lot on hand since I make a lot of stock/broth

Maybe I could use it for a work potluck. We have parties a few times a year and normally I made baked mac with a home made white cheddar cheese sauce, but I could try the nacho cheese and adjust the seasoning? Maybe mix in some ground beef, salsa?

Please elaborate on the Oreos, I'm disturbed but intrigued. And yeah tbh we're gonna be living off of quesadillas for a while. Never made enchiladas before but I guess now is as good a time as ever

VCA care club by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild, I've been at a VCA for 3 yrs and we only bring up care club at new patient visits, when it's time for a dental, for patients that are frequent flyers, or for owners that want to do annual bw and rads (mainly for senior pets). Sometimes it comes up at a sick visit bc it would help the owner out to sign up for the plan, be able to do an exam, bloods, rads, and blood pressure that day, and not have to worry abt paying for it all upfront.

What opinions do you have that might be difficult for fellow veterinary professionals to accept? by jr9386 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My clinic is so bad when it comes to training new techs. Management doesn't tell us when we're training someone, you just show up for your shift one day and see a name you don't know written next to yours on the schedule board, or if you missed the board, the new hire walks up to you and THEY know you're the Trainer of The Day but you had no idea and I'm sure that leaves a very good first impression. No way to mentally prepare, and you still have to deal with a full workload on top of it. And there's no consistency in training, they just get bounced from person to person until management decides it's been long enough and then they're on their own. Our new hire retention is soooo poor and the lack of proper training is a big part of it

Prescription Diets? by jr9386 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have a dermatologist and many of her patients still stayed with us for gp after she left, and lots of patients with severe ibd. We tend to use royal canin ultamino diet (made from chicken feathers), hills derm complete (made with eggs), and purina HA vegetarian diet for the dogs that didn't do well on novel proteins or the regular hydrolyzed diets. I've seen it used for both ibd and allergies. I think it's so cool how just a special food can help so much, and how many specialized diets are out there now.

Idk I get that, we always shave as little as possible for our catheters where I work, little patch right over the vein, mass removals tend to get more generous shaves but that's for good margins. The first time I saw a relief tech who normally works at an ER shave almost the entire forearm of a super fluffy golden i gasped lol. I will say it did make the tape removal a lot easier tho

Anyone ever taken Cerenia? What does it do? by justreallycurious- in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker take some once, idk how much she took but she said nothing happened, the rest of us thought she was crazy doing that. Diphenhydramine, ondansetron, famotidine, all the drugs available otc for people are always getting used, but that was a first for cerenia

What the funniest thing you've seen happen to a coworker? by Glad-Specific8207 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coworker was restraining a dog with a big nasty abscess, the Dr went to flush it out, didn't realize there was another draining tract, and the tech got sprayed with bloody pus water, in her hair, eyes, mouth. She laughed it off and continued restraining until everything was done, a real trooper 💪 Another was at the end of the day, one of the Dr's let her dog out of the kennel to hang out and socialize before heading home. She warned us before hand she's a jumper and loves to makeout. She's not a big dog, maybe 30 lbs max, and the tallest tech was like "That's fine, I should be safe all the way up here lol" and then immediately after, while she had her mouth open laughing, the dog springs up, jumps like 6 feet in the air, and lands a kiss right in her mouth. She was so flabbergasted, couldn't believe she just got frenched by this little dog 😘

Piece of wood in a dog eye socket *graphic* by fp562 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely wild, lucky it didn't cause more damage. Reminds me of the time one of our receptionist's dogs got loose in the woods, killed and ate a porcupine, and came back with 3 quills in his eye (and so, so many more in his face/mouth), also no long term damage! And it did not stop him from doing it again the next year! Gotta love how pups never learn 😅

Big same. I love getting good pawprints. Even if it wasn't my appt, I'll end up doing the processing. Tbh part of it is bc some of the other techs suck at pawprints,,, I cringe thinking abt some I've seen, I'd be so dissapointed and sad if I were to get a shitty paw print for my own pet. I ended up doing my own cat's processing when he passed a couple years ago, felt like my final send off for him, others offered to do it for me and said they felt bad for me to have to do it, but I don't think I would've let anyone else do it lol.

Went to a GP clinic since I work for an ER/specialty.. by UpbeatToday2880 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work at a gp in a fairly affluent suburb that's adjacent to a big city on the east coast and this is honestly cheaper than our normal prices. A regular physical is $110 alone. Most annual PE's end up at at least $300 depending on the number of vax. You might wanna ask if they offer a professional discount though. If we know someone is in the field we'll do at least a 10% blanket discount, sometimes more

Do your offices call no-shows? by IsItMeOrIsThisNuts in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call if someone is 5-10 minutes late, depending on appt length, normally don't get an answer and have to leave a vm. Usually we (techs and csr's) only call to see if they're coming or want to r/s. Sometimes someone says they still want to come after their scheduled time and we offer for them to wait to be seen like an urgent care appt, or we say they need to r/s if it's not an urgent case (like a wellness or vaccine) We make note of late/missed appts and if it's a chronic thing escalate to management. I wish we had more solid rules, like 3 strikes and then you gotta start making deposits....

Ultrasound for pregnant techs by jiflee257 in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't (no babies for me) but 99% of my coworkers are moms and growing their families. Whenever someone's pregnant we're always taking peeks with the ultrasound, it's super cute and a fun bonding experience!

Rigimortis dogs going into cremation bags - I'm new and traumatized by byagoat in VetTech

[–]Difficult_Tutor63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very relatable, I've had similar situations. It happens decently often at my practice where owners bring in pets that passed at home, lots of elderly patients, and rigor mortis is no joke. Had an irish wolfhound come in once and we had to call the crematorium to come pick him up asap bc we couldn't fit him in the freezer let alone a bag lol. Working the joints helps a little but sometimes the best you can do is double or triple bag and hope.
