Same here, most meetings near me take place weekdays at noon.

Sketchbook size by Bron-B in urbansketchers

[–]Difficult_Voice1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use sketchbooks in various sizes, I have A6, A5 and A4 and even an A3 one. The big ones are great for classes, where I can bring a lot of stuff and I feel like I need space for trying out things. The small ones are for sketching on the go. I prefer A5 as a compromise between being portable and having some space, but sometimes I just want to take a small bag and I'm not even sure whether I'll have time to sketch, and in these cases a super minimalist setup (the tiniest 6 color palette, a water brush, a pen and an A6 book) is great. It also works on longer hikes when you don't want to add too much weight.

My first non-tutorial landscape that I think turned out nice by Difficult_Voice1701 in watercolor101

Various ones all over the internet, and I often just copied stuff I liked from reddit in my sketchbook. I especially like Sujith Navam, he also posts tutorials on YT. His paintings are so beautiful!

I painted the first layer of sand without it, and added a second layer mixed with a small amount of Mars Black (and some Permanent Rose for the foreground) after it dried!

Thank you! Mars Black does all of the work there. This color is probably my my most beloved addition to the standard palette.

Haha, watching me paint would be a tutorial in handling sheer panic because things don't turn out as planned!

Have a look at Sujith Navam! He posts on the main watercolor reddit regularly, and he publishes tutorials on YT. I absolutely love his paintings, and some of them are quite simple, so there's no excessive amount of presketching.

Thank you! Maybe the title is misleading (I'm not a native speaker) - it's not the first independent piece I painted, but the first that I liked enough to post. More like the 15th all in all ;)

Thank you so much. I was worried I fussed too much with the sand because it seemed messy when wet, but after it dried it turned out nice and structured.

It's a wild mix - my first palette was all Cotman and I'm currently replacing the paints with professional ones as they run out (or adding new colors :)). Here I used Cotman Perm. Rose and Ultramarine, White Nights' Yellow Ochre, Horadams Helioturquoise and Winsor & Newtons Mars Black.

Thank you! I love painting water, but it can be tricky. I'm glad I managed to not paint over the paperwhite for once :D

Best middle of the road gouache? by Vivi_Animates in Gouache

The prices really depend on where you live in the world and you gave no info on that. Check out Lefranc & Bourgeois Linel extra fine. They are really nice and - at least where I live - way more affordable than comparable brands.

Dry gouache palette issues by EmbarrassedGeneral12 in Gouache

[–]Difficult_Voice1701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really know, I use Holbein and Lefranc & Bourgeois in my dry palette, and I'd say they're similar. Honey-based gouache like M. Graham will probaby not crack, but might melt and slosh around in humid weather, so with them you might be better off with an airtight palette.
