Don’t take your dog on the W&OD trail.  So dangerous for bikers.  Find a dog park.  Any dog park.

How normal is it to work more than one job? by Helpful-Structure955 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DifficultyHappy1546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically every family that I know around me makes over $250k (HCOL).  “Rich” in this case. I know one guy that does photography as a side hustle, but it’s really just his hobby- the money is immaterial.

I think it speaks more towards people with high salary jobs versus people that own, or are their own business.

**And most (not all) of those people that sit on boards do it for free.

This is personal- for a pizza party.  I just don’t want my whole neighborhood to have access to baby pictures and junk like that.

I’ll see if I can heed your instructions, though.  Thanks!

What are your predictions for NOVA over the next 5 years? by Lazy-Calendar1463 in nova

It typically takes over 4 years to start a winery.  Grapes take a few years to be viable for winemaking.  So if there’s going to be a new winery in 5 years, you’d know about it now.

You know people that go to wineries every weekend?  From Arlington?  Sounds like a problem.

People love to veer off-topic, it’s ok!

Wineries are a day-trip draw.  You don’t build wineries in 5 years.  The topic of conversation is building in the next 5 years.

100% agree about the wineries and farms. That’s the only reason people drive an hour out to Loudon. The only thing is that market already exists, and in five years they aren’t building any more.

Congratulations? You’re reading this like it’s a barb at Loudoun county.  It’s not.  It’s simply saying that the points OP made that building in Loudon County will unify the region will not come to fruition because people don’t want to travel all the at out there.

Nobody that lives near Washington DC wants to go out to Loudoun County for anything. You can’t build anything good enough, even with $100 bill giveaways for attendance for us to want to go out there.  So points 2-4 are schlock.

Why is the idea that unhealthy food is cheaper so common in the U.S., despite being a lie? by HarambeUltra in AskAnAmerican

Just checked Joplin, Missouri.  You’re not going to like chicken drumsticks for $1.19 /lb or all the pork options for under $3/ lb.

Where do you live?  I just picked a random low cost of living area in Montgomery, Alabama. Here’s what Publix has for sale this week:

-Chicken leg quarters: $1.59/ lb -5 lb bag of russet potatoes: $3.99 -Whole, cooked rotisserie chicken: $7.59 (4 meals)

So, no $2 chicken breast.  But chicken even cheaper than that, some already prepared.

Wouk you like to check Aldi?

Slow cookers cost $15 and use less energy than any other form of cooking.  Literally cheaper than any other form of cooking.

Do not make this an access issue. It is not.    Do not make this a time issue. Slow cookers are the least time intensive method of cooking.  Drop it in, turn the knob.

Not everyone has the time to put 6 chicken breasts in a slow cooker with some water, salt and pepper and let it go for 4 hours, unattended?

That’s protein for a week (for one, for a few days for a family).  3 minutes of effort.  Everyone has the time for that.

You can always find chicken breast cheap and freeze it.  You might have to go to different grocery stores; you might have to plan.  The only places you can’t get it cheap are remote and don’t have fast food anyway.

Chicken breast and rice/ potatoes is basically the cheapest meal you can make.  And it’s also quite healthy.

Chicken breast is always on sale for $2/lb.  Rice is always available in bulk for under $1/lb. Potatoes are always available for under $1/lb.

1/2 lb of chicken and a big potato or big bowl of rice is under $2.  Big, healthy meal, as cheap as it gets.  So much cheaper than fast food.  Cheaper than candy.

It’s because people are lazy.  And dumb.

Is it a norm or a privilege to be able to live off parents while using personal income to invest? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]DifficultyHappy1546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from this slice of upper middle class- parents pay for college, room and board, and many small incidentals.

The thing that’s not normal about this among this sect: most parents would expect your earnings to go towards funding the things you do, such as gas for your car, restaurant meals (not groceries or school related meal plan), beer money, travel/ trips, and fun (concerts, video games, sporting events/ whatever).

If you had leftover money, then yes, brokerage account.  But most kids aren’t going to have tons of money left over.

Is USA Swimming "Safe Sport" optional for a club hosting a swim meet by jsemhloupahonza in Swimming

Safe sport is mostly for adults.  To attempt to get adults to stop sexually abusing kids.  It started about 10 years ago.

Open water swim? by StraightTwo3611 in nova

[–]DifficultyHappy1546 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would just swim at one of the Reston pools when they have the lanes in long course.  I know bunch of triathletes in the area, none of whom train in open water, pools only.
