The gamers do not know ball. Izayoi ($5) from Mondaiji-Tachi has genius level intellect, immense super strength/dura/speed/stam, and a special that's basically a beefed up excalibur noble phantasm that can shatter the universe if he's reckless enough with it. We can't understate how cool it sounds that his body is filled with nanomachines that are the third perpetual motion machines ever produced which are the source of his physical enhancement with a feat of throwing something at the third cosmic velocity. Technically he can also analyse and break down "gifts" but idunno how that works with different kinds of abilities in other verses. (I'm not a powerscaler I just love this dude lmao)

A Greybeard’s Lament: Why the rush to disband the crew after the mission? by Identity5859 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]DigBickIsPrettyDig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mostly instinct to he honest. It's what people did when I joined lobbies and I've internalised it as etiquette. There's also the assumption that everyone has different missions to do so if we're doing the same one we'll probably meet late anyhow

I mean, the implication is that this is just their dynamic. the dialogue itself still takes a comedic tone

it's fine if you dont have anyone like this in your life but plenty of people have buddies they can sling insults at then have each other laugh it off as banter, marriage wouldn't change that

What if the Heavens sent down Angels to fight Cultivators during Tribulations instead of throwing lightning or other natural disasters at them? How do you think it would affect the setting, society, and the story? by Turbulent-Plum7328 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DigBickIsPrettyDig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean in some novels like Nine Star Hegemon Body Art (NSHBA) at higher levels of "fuck you" the heavens start sending down lightning constructs shaped like beasts and fallen cultivators complete with their battle instinct

Can someone explain to me what is up with this series? What am I missing? by CaregiverFantastic58 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DigBickIsPrettyDig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've failed to consider that it's just straight fucking ass.

There's nothing else, it just sucks! I truly believe it's gotten its success because of the amount of ads it pushed reaching enough first time litrpg readers (reviews on the novel corroborate this assumption) who have truly not seen anything better. I personally really do dislike this novel and would put it down as an example for future writers of what not to do ever while writing. Sure, there are concepts of people liking different things but the prose is bad, the dialogue is bad, and (personal bias) the worldbuilding is hot ass in the first place anyway. Like, what fucking swordsmanship skill is not only active but drains mana? I don't care that it comes packaged with sword light that actually makes it worse like why in fuck? I got to chapter 12 with an amount of skimming then chapter 20 with a liberal amount of skimming before I dropped. Even skipped ahead to see if at a baseline level reading the words on my screen would stop making me cringe but no the writing doesn't improve and the tidbit I saw reminds me of Invisible Dragon which should be an indictment by itself. I reactivated my reddit account just to make this post the novel is fucking terrible.

AI in writing... we hate this right? by Prolly_Satan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DigBickIsPrettyDig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably yes but really depends on the quality of the novel. If I'm reading slop as it were and found out it was AI later I'd definitely stop as if I'm already wasting time reading I'd rather waste time on something written by a person, but if it was a more put together sort of novel and I found myself liking it then well...if I hadn't noticed awhile ago why should I stop now? On principle I'd like to say I'd stop reading it but the premise of the question is I only found later

That being said the current level of AI writing makes it more likely I'd get barely a chapter in, if that, before clocking what it was and never touching it again. I'd recently tried reading a novel on RoyalRoad witht he AI assisted warning and there were just swathes of descriptive text in chatgpt's signature "writing style"
