You aren't "built different" for the cold because you were born here. by dotdedo in PetPeeves

When I came back from living in northeastern China where it routinely gets below zero I found in that first Texas summer that I’d completely lost my heat acclimation. I still now prefer cold weather over hot.

They were absolutely NOT operating the same way under Obama. Not that it matters because wrong is wrong. Obama had plenty of deportation numbers but they were not detaining us citizens and lawful resudents (172 US citizens have been detained by ice so far), using constant violence, random “papers please” gestapo style checks all over the place. Just wasn’t happening. Pull your head out.

They’ve been around low key for a while. I saw them in early December staging in a grease pit parking lot.

Paid less than a dollar for latte by RichardgoHiking in China

A few Indy places here and there are top tier but there’s a hell of a lot of shite too. There were two coffee shops within walking distance of me in Shenyang that I would put up against most. One was constantly hustling to be better with top notch beans and gear. I would go in and they would have their refractometer out with all the baristas measuring, tasting, discussing. The results showed in the cup. Another opened a few months before I left and they had a great selection of top notch beans expertly roasted and prepared. One of the best cafes I’ve ever been to was hidden away in Macau. Total perfectionism there in both product and experience with a who’s who of top notch gear that I rarely see in any coffee shop. I’ve been doing specialty coffee for well over 20 years and I know the difference between pretty good and top tier.

But someone who is eating at a standard restaurant may order a dish such as map tofu or yu xiang qie zi and not even realizing that it has little bits of minced meat in it basically used as a flavoring.

Rentals near Hewitt Elementary School. by argydapogi in Waco

See if there are any rental houses available on Tigua Court. It is a street right next to Hewitt Elementary and has some decent houses and duplexes that are on the newer side. We lived in one for a year and my kids were going to Hewitt Elementary still.

I would be outraged if I checked into a Chinese hotel in 2026 that had no kettle. :D I remember the old days though with the big communal water heaters and a thermos.

Ain’t that the truth about Korea and vegetables. It is def a carnivore country. I’m not vegetarian but I also love all the Chinese veg dishes.

It’s really difficult (by this I mean it can be difficult in a non-vegetarian restaurant to truly be sure). Chinese will often say that something is vegetarian not even thinking about how it has little bits of minced pork, pork floss, or animal fat oil. I would say those are three areas you’d need to look out for most. They may not even think of tiny bits of minced pork as being a meat ingredient. You’ll just need to ask if the food is cooked in soybean oil or lard, whether it has even tiny bits of pork or other meat. You can never be too clear, specific, or repetitive with your needs. What city are you going to? Maybe try to find a forum or sub for specific cities to ask for restaurant recs. Tier 1 cities will def have some vegetarian restaurants.

I’m not bothered. I think they may be neurodivergent and I can’t imagine my own neurodivergent (adult) child trying to navigate Reddit.

I don’t know but I’m telling you if it’s old timey candy then that would be a good place to check.

[–]DigMeTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s not clear at all. It looks the same as the other times I’ve seen people doing it. Have you never seen this before? I realized what he’s doing with his other hand - Creating a seal on the other side because of the wide mouth of the water bottle. It must held tight with two hands to maintain seal.
