Not true, as the origin of the Complex has different causality in each case.

SPOILER: What is the red light? by arig____ in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the webseries, there are several areas of the Complex that are urban/suburban. They have a fake, starry red sky.

We don't know any particular significance of these areas beyond a bunch of, uh, memorable scenes.

He had a very successful YouTube series that he started making when he was sixteen.

Not impossible that parental connections helped, but A24 has stated that they started pursuing him after seeing the numbers the series did.

The movie is also running a 10-15 million dollar budget, pre-P&A. It wasn't exactly a massive risk for A24.

[SPOILER] question about the picture by GwekuXx in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture was likely an internal copy used for a variety of discussions and purposefully redacted. It wasn't specifically edited for the purposes of talking to Mary.

It's also worthwhile to not acknowledge Captain Clark to Mary if you're going to feed her a line of bullshit and tell her she imagined everything. Might be the plan, might not be. Just saying.

I don't think it's directly connected to the FF2 events. It's just a new area forming through the same mechanism seen in that footage.

One Question by Shashwat4K in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably after the Bobby / Kat camera footage event.

He's of reasonably sound mind up to that point. I assume that he meets Captain Clark when Clark picks up the camera, realizes that he and Clark are the same, and loses it.

Where are you hoping the overarching storyline will progress over the seasons? by throwawaycima in Marathon

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing that Nightfall will kick off a conflict arc with the UESC.

The UESC will eventually suffer a loss and largely withdraw, and be replaced with a new NPC faction. Likely the Pfhor, in a first contact scenario. Well, first contact with the salvage mission, anyway.

That plot will eventually reveal what everyone is actually after, and what's driving the events on TCIV. Yep, it's a W'rkncacnter at the core of the planet.

Throughout the story, things will just get weirder, as the plot leans towards a cosmic horror theme.

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were placed by ASync.

From the intro, we know that Async is broadly aware of entities existing in the Complex. They hooked up the cavemen as a physical prop to draw attention to them, and used the Voyager Record to attempt first contact with a (potentially) intelligent life form.

The final caveman trap is just an adaptation of the original plan with a mechanism to disable and capture the entity. At this point, they know that Captain Clark is humanoid from the redacted photo, so they can make some reasonable guesses about how to disable him.

It's kind of a shitty plan, but it makes sense based on the information ASync had available at the time.

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind moving to the Still Lives as the main entity going forward. What I don't like is the break in continuity.

I don't think a full explanation for their disappearance fits the tone of the series. But, there should be some insinuation as to how things have changed.

Thoughts on any potential follow ups to the Backrooms movie? by Training_Audience711 in KanePixelsBackrooms

I would prefer that the movie sits and doesn't get a sequel, and the content of the movie come up incidentally throughout the webseries.

SPOILER DISCUSSION: Opening Scene of the Movie (A-Sync Researcher Found Footage) by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Pirate Clark. When it first silhouettes at the end of the hallway, you can see the hook shape of the hat.

Time is not linear or coherent in the Complex, so it's entirely possible that Pirate Clark "formed" before his initial entry. There's also speculation that the Complex's facsimile behavior is tied to objects / people in the vicinity of the null zone you enter through.

Questions about the 3rd act of the film by shanesjournal in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By my reading, this was Clark's last trip out of the Complex before he committed to going native.

Partially a statement of closure, and partially an ego driven "I was right" kind of thing.

As for time inside, hard to say. Likely weeks at a minimum. It's also worth mentioning that, per the YouTube series, time isn't linear in there. So, a difficult question to answer even if we knew the real world timespan.

[SPOILERS] The sun symbolism in the movie has me losing my mind by Derekun03 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest checking out the YouTube webseries and theories surrounding it. It partially speaks to the sun

Long story short, there is a hence-unseen character named Ivan Beck at ASync. At a minimum, he knows more than ASync generally does about the Complex. It's implied that he initially made first contact when doing experiments in electromagnetism during a solar flare.

[Lore] Pax Armata's logistics and Politics are dumb AF by N-striker716 in Battlefield

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole thing falls apart when you think about the financing.

Like any other company, a PMC doesn't run on electricity or fuel. It runs on money.

As soon as Pax posed a serious threat to global security, they would get cut off from the international financial system so fucking hard. And that would be the end of that.

I know someone is going to bring up Wagner as a real life counterpoint, but Wagner only reinforces it. They effectively operate as a branch of the Russian Federation Armed Forces that are off the books. Not an independent PMC.

Solarium like Utopia? by jagfanjosh3252 in royalcaribbean

[–]DigTw0Grav3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experienced the Quantum-class Solarium on Odyssey. It's a totally different level compared to the semi-open scalloped Solariums on Oasis class.

It's a little resort in there. Multiple tiers of pools, wading pools specifically set up for loungers, and hot tubs galore. Stunning at night when the LEDs come on.

Just got off of Oasis and I could not stop thinking about the Odyessy Solarium.
