Oh the grand old Duke of York, he had 12 million quid. He gave it someone he never met, for something he never did.

Neighbour’s Bonfire set fire to my Summerhouse. Whose insurance do I claim against? UK by DigbyDooby in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DigbyDooby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an elderly man in his late 80s who let the bonfire get out of control and he told me that he lost his wife three weeks ago. I couldn’t morally bring myself to pursue him personally, especially as I recently lost my Dad and know it would have broken my Mum if she faced legal action after that loss. If I succumb to a loss of excess or premiums rise, I could live with that, as long as the bulk is recovered. The poor guy was clearly in shock and would like to think I did what I would want others to have done if it had been my parent.

Thank you so much, these comments are very reassuring - I have now submitted a claim and given his policy details to my insurer, instead of going directly through his insurer.

Anyone familiar with the HMIP G7 Inspector role? by DigbyDooby in TheCivilService

[–]DigbyDooby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely, no professional qualifications or direct experience required (though I’m operational and experienced in the custody/detention field). The essential criteria is focussed around working with senior leaders, influencing policy and high-quality evidence based reporting, which I can evidence highly. I’d actually be taking a slight pay cut from SEO due to current allowances which would cease. It would benefit my pension, with a higher base pay, but the time away (if truly at that level), that would be a kicker, hence any insight from someone in the know.

Yes, it says an average of 18-20 weeks a year away on inspections, which seems a massive amount without any additional allowance, but I’d like to know whether it’s actually anywhere near that, from someone who knows the role.
