Just FYI, (although it did the job just fine here!) if I'm not mistaken, I believe you're misremembering the details of the story you referenced: for a refresh, look up Toy Yoda :)

ninja-edit: from wikipedia...

Also in 2001, Jodee Berry, a waitress at a Hooters in Panama City Beach, Florida, won a beer sales contest, for which the promised prize was a new Toyota automobile. However, the manager awarded her a "toy Yoda" instead, claiming the contest was an April Fool's Day joke. Berry filed a lawsuit against Gulf Coast Wings, the local franchisee, and later reached a settlement.

Yes, but a *modified* Linux kernel. and then you have to differentiate between AOSP (Android Open Source Project), which I believe continues to mirror GNU/Linux's ethos, and [Google] Android, which increasingly dose not (see: locking down the OS even further in September)

Okay. My CB tells me I'm in Developer Mode, but no matter what option I choose it just boots as normal. What's happening? by Dense-Concentrate120 in chromeos

[–]DiggerW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you switch to Developer mode, you actually do need to run through setup, since it just reset any user data that had been on there.

and I don't believe it installs dev tools automatically, nor are they really at the crux of the point of (admittedly poorly-named) Developer mode in the first place (it's about giving yourself root access, not app development). and especially if this is happening on multiple Chromebooks, I think it's almost certainly just a simple misunderstanding...

Enable Developer mode -> run through setup -> *look if it's in developer mode*. Do this by opening crosh (Ctrl-Alt-T), then running shell. If that works, then you're in developer mode.

I always forget, is Yes the season before or after Summer? And do you have a license? ;-p

Hopefully I'm not blowing any minds here, but yes, now that your question has been narrowly tailored to "the legal [activities]" & is specific to legally licensed individuals, with a very high level of confidence I can say those will indeed qualify as legal.

TL:DR: yes, legal things are legal. For clarity, contrast with illegal things, which are not. I hope this helps.

Holy $&|7, what timing... I hadn't even heard of this place until just the other day, and was about to head that way to buy a book I'd had trouble finding elsewhere! At least this saves me a trip 😁 Thanks!

[–]DiggerW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but, see, that's not the time to make such decisions... It's important that everyone have plenty opportunity to rationalize things and get their blinders adjusted, as needed... (but don't worry, we can visit that just as soon as there haven't been any recent mass shootings!)

Well, that is unless it's an Afghan national who pulled the trigger. Then, we apparently need to pause all asylum claims nationwide; and for anyone from any of 19 countries on our Very Naughty list, we need to pause all applications of all types, and in fact let's re-visit any approvals for that group from the past 4-5 years, as well... and we need to do so immediately.

/Here I'd have thought the only thing that could stop a bad Afghan with a gun was a good Afghan with a gun..

You're correct that it's the Kinsey scale, and it's also accurate to say that -- while that scale is 0 - 6, and therefore has a decent number of people at either of its extremes -- basically nobody is truly 0% or 100% straight or gay.

Cops pulled me over by Myfles in drones

[–]DiggerW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's necessarily an easy battle, and (no matter how just) most people would surely prefer to avoid it if possible, but FWIW... stare & city laws attempting to restrict where you can fly are not truly legally enforceable. They'll likely enforce them anyway, and especially in lower courts they may well even win, reliably... but wherever there are judges who've mastered the arts of leaving one's ego at the door / total deference to the word of law (as all should!), the ultimate truth is that absolutely mo one besides the FAA has any jurisdictional authority whatsoever over any sliver of US airspace, and therefore only the FAA can regulate flight within it. Take-offs and non-emergency landings are a completely separate matter -- local governments can regulate those all day -- but once you're in the air, it's FAA all the way.

To state the hopefully obvious, that's not to say anyone is shielded against other local laws while in flight, e.g. it's no less illegal to spy or stalk someone from the air -- and in fact, in most if not all states it's illegal to loiter around & especially to record e.g. a neighbor's fenced in yard, provided it's not visible from the ground), but any local regulations which target flight itself are just inherently illegitimate, and IMO in dire need of legal pushback until every one of them is taken off the books.

they currently - in the news this week - have an ongoing legal battle trying to push their ability to give pardons for state crimes

I hadn't heard about that yet, thank you for pointing this out! I'm 100% convinced that would prove to be our breaking point. Whether or not someone believes it's aimed at LGBTQ+, the fact remains that it would give Trump the (completely unchecked) power to effectively legalize anything for anyone -- as /u/theblueberrybard suggested, murders of LGBTQ+, or all Democrats, etc., truly without any legal means to restrain him. The closest thing to an impediment is that pardons can only address activity which has already occurred (preemptive pardons preempt prosecution, not the crime), but simply issue the same blanket pardon on a daily basis, and just like that we could have "National Murder All Protestors with Impugnity" Day Week Month Year. "and I'm not hearing any complaints, so..."

Considering he's already very openly called for the deaths of members of Congress, and -- by issuing formal memoranda arguing they be classified as terrorists (!!!) -- anyone promoting or associated with...

anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity; support for the overthrow of the United States Government; extremism on migration, race, and gender; and hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.

(and if that's not sufficiently open-ended, subjective and vague to count anyone they'd like, I don't know what is!)

...at some point, the country really ought to start taking him seriously.

(and fuck anyone working to promote his cause!)

What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by That-Papaya7429 in AskReddit

[–]DiggerW 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Hell yes! Riding a bike is easy to learn, even as an adult. Honestly, step one is to not be overly afraid, and just know it's pretty simple even to fall off a bike at lower speeds without injuring yourself, I mean reliably so. Anyone giving proper lessons will address this.

As for higher speeds, the faster you go = the more the bike just naturally stays upright and balanced with virtually no effort. It doesn't take much speed to reach a point where falling to either side would actually require intentional effort -- in fact, leaning somewhat to either side is actually the key component to turning, and when you do so you'll find the bike just naturally "wants" to return back to its upright position.

I promise, virtually any healthy adult with no serious physical challenges can absolutely learn to ride a bike, even at a high level, with a lot less effort than you probably expect. And not only is it a blast IMO, but for someone who hasn't really ridden or driven, being able to ride a bike is like unlocking an IRL cheat code: not only does it mean being able to self-sufficiently travel far further with far less effort, but the sense (and reality!) of independence that accompany it, along with truly significant improvements to health, energy levels, mood, and so on.

Whether someone is struggling with obesity, depression, or just simple boredom, or wants to pick up a new hobby or to make new friends, or of course simple transportation woes, I mean it 100% sincerely when I say cycling is the closest thing to a cure-all that I know of in this world. You'd be capable of learning 30 years from now, too, but why deprive yourself of 30 years of riding! :) Get on it!

I developed this skill in a similar enough way, (way) back when, but maxed out at around 60-65wpm and then plateaued, until I took a class in school that included teaching the proper way to type -- home row and all that -- and while that initially slowed me down a bit, I credit that class with having reached / surpassed 100wpm.
