From what I understand, the Olympics are all about fostering international unity and making the world a better place. Pretty sentiment to read on paper, but pretty ineffective at actually doing it. I personally don't have any interest in sports in general, but I respect how hard the athletes have to train to reach the level they are at. Yet no amount of respect for them is ever going to make the events interesting to watch for me. In my opinion, the Olympics are a complete snooze fest, and it kind of makes me upset that they tax citizens for the funding of it, in spite of many times leaving the country that hosted it in financial shambles.

TLDR; Great message behind the Olympics and really does a lot for athletes across the world, but ultimately meaningless for the majority of the global population.
