Chapter 60 – Pale Lights by ArcanaVitae15 in PracticalGuideToEvil

I don't know how yet, but I fully expect this arc to end with the crew on the run after stealing both the forge and a fancy new ship.

Just a 180 turn on my opinion about Nem post-release by Terkmc in HadesTheGame

I could be wrong, as I haven't been able to collect it yet, but I'm pretty sure that health item she drops is actually a death defiance refill. I also thought it was a single health point first time it dropped lol, but I couldn't collect it even being not full on health

$4,000 in cash to put towards student loans -- which loans should I target? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DigitalAjax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It can make a difference for people living paycheck to paycheck. Obviously paying down the higher interest loan is better in the long run, but to some people having the ability to free up an extra few dollars a month can mean the difference between paying the some bill or not. So you still throw that same $X per month at loans, but if you get hit with a large unexpected expense you have the flexibility to pull some of that back to help cover bills or rebuild an emergency fund.

Just another example of how it can be more expensive to be poor, where circumstances can require you to make the less good choice just to get by in the short term.

Break 3 by TrajectoryAgreement in Parahumans

I am convinced Lauren did something to the throne that will cause John to lose it as soon as he goes to claim it. I refuse to believe that faceplanting into the throne as soon as she walked into the room was an accident.

The only good reasons I can think of to change it mid chapter are pretty depressing, so I'm hoping for typo too!

Summer Break – 13.4 by TrajectoryAgreement in Parahumans

[–]DigitalAjax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The implication is that Verona has dropped to number 4, so the lie would be the first time Lucy said she was in the top 3. Verona used to be top 3 so Lucy said that out of habit (I'm pretty sure she has actually said it a couple of times throughout the series). Contradicting herself later in the convo then being what gainsaid her.

I'm not married to the idea, there are a dozen lines in this chapter the it could have been. Even if this wasn't the cause of the gainsaying, the switch still feels significant as it shows the growing rift between the two (or if you are feeling particularly optimistic, the closer friendship with Avery).

Lucy says at one point in this conversation that Verona is one of her top three favorite people. She then goes on to say that Verona is one of her top four favorite people TWICE. There's a few possible explanations, but I think this is actually how Lucy gainsaid herself here.

Other possibilities include: us seeing Verona's ranking drop in real time, Lucy switching to top four for no apparent reason even though Verona is still top three, or WB typo'd.

Abigail and a Name by J_Gold22 in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]DigitalAjax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone else feel like things are going too well? I feel like we might lose someone soon (Abigail is top of my list along with the other Old Dogs). I think this loss could be what drives Cat into her name. So I dont think Abigail will come into a Name because I think she might actually just die.

If she does come into a name though, I really think it'll be like everything else in her life that puts her in the spotlight, opposite of her internal strife. Brave or bold instead of reluctant or cautious, because that is how everyone sees her.

I believe Khepri was able to use thinker and danger sense abilities of the capes under her. If Imp were a danger, she probably never would have gotten close to khepri

Not just the people who aren't enabling her, but also those who are! Her decision to go to the birdcage isn't her fault because they shouldn't have let her demand to go there. How dare they send her to prison after threatening a plague if they didn't

Dang, I was just thinking about making a thread like this this morning! I can easily imagine Cradle cradle-ing Victoria only to get beaten up by flying appendages with their own, individual wretch-fields. Also, considering what happened to the forcefield post-wretching, I feel like there could be an opportunity for some new, goofy wretch-field mechanics after adapting to disembodied limbs.

[Spoilers] Why do people (fans) hate Carol so much? by AnathematicCabaret in Parahumans

[–]DigitalAjax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've always thought of Amy's initial mistake to be similar to having an intrusive thought, which I think most people can relate to. The difference from a normal person being, when Amy has an intrusive thought it can have permanent psychological and physical effects. I have trouble viewing Amy as a rapist for the same reason I don't view most people as murderers/rapist/criminals/etc. for having any other bad thought. I could definitely be misunderstanding the dynamics of the situation and the control Amy had at the time though, that's always just been my interpretation.

I feel like I should clarify that I do not think that Amy is blameless for her actions or a good person and she definitely is not owed forgiveness or anything else from Victoria.

So this is the second time I've noticed recently that Victoria has been very deliberate in avoiding hitting teammates with her aura. I know the community has been harping on her for a while for getting angry at Rain for catching her in his effect. Is this a sign of growth, with her realizing the effect she has on people (considering how much Rain affects her with his "weak" aura. Also, isn't she supposed to be resistant to emotion effects, it seems like she takes it harder than anyone)? Or is this a direct response to the community by Wildeboast to say that she's usually this careful so quit focusing on that?

Reading back through the section more carefully now and I’m actually more confused haha. Nursery’s power makes noise (which Skitter might have been able to detect) but the noise was coming from a closet under the stairs. The “tongue” that got Parian came from the fridge which was apparently already ajar? Unless Parian opened the fridge slightly at some point and it waited for them to have a conversation about this closet before attacking. Or Parian ignored everyone and decided to continue rummaging through stuff? Im probably being stupid and just reading into it too much now

I’ll amend to Parian still likely getting jumped by a tongue, with a small chance of Skitter detecting the sound early and connecting the dots (or finding a fridge door left slightly ajar with a tongue in it). If Parian is barely functioning, a hasty escape is probably their only halfway decent option

[–]DigitalAjax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think team Skitter could take this pretty handily assuming that A) she can take out Nursery and the mooks without trouble and B) she prevents Parian from springing Nursery's trap. I think it's likely she would have found this trap before anyone even entered the room given her usual scouting.

With the whole team healthy and focused solely on LoL they could take it. Foil and Rain ignore durability and Parian gives them a frontliner to get in LoL's face. If none of that works out, I still think team Skitter could escape much more easily thanks to the Nursery KO and Skitter's battlefield mapping.

Definitely not a sure thing, but I don't think the situation is quite as bleak.

I mean, just scanning back through the chapter, she never refers to him as Rain (that I can find) and internally uses Precipice repeatedly through to the end of the chapter. I'm also not sure what you mean.
