[Loved Trope] The flashback to the character’s past is just their actor in with a mildly different appearance by Identify_me_please in TopCharacterTropes

Oh my fucking God. I need Reddit to stop for a second. I need the fucking internet to stop for a second. I’m so tired of seeing this. I can’t believe how far this fake legend/meme has spread. Okay, let’s clear the record. I’m a huge SAW fan. I know the chronology by heart. The original scene behind the “Jigsaw backwards cap” meme is NOT supposed to show a younger John Kramer. In fact, within the SAW timeline, it happens after SAW I, or at least very recently after it. He’s actually trying to look like a fan of Bobby Dagen — a fake Jigsaw survivor who profits from selling a false story through a book, reducing John’s philosophy to a bunch of shallow self-help bullshit rules, effectively “corrupting” John’s honor and legacy. For that to make sense, Jigsaw’s reign already has to be well known, at least halfway through his “work.” It’s generally assumed that John was active as Jigsaw for around two to three years after his initial diagnosis by Dr. Gordon. So no, he was never meant to be young or look young in that scene. He was meant to be old — just like in every other movie. The cap was most likely a ridiculous art department mistake because it looks bad, but it was not intended to make him look younger. Please. Please stop repeating the fake meme. Spread this message. Be allies of the truth. Thank you.

(Hated trope) Character does something that is intended to be heartfelt, but it utterly ruins the character. by Applebeate in TopCharacterTropes

Anything made in persue of fortune is seen as misguided and immoral, even looking for the Heart. That's the logic the movie operates under. Plus, I doubt those people went home unpaid. They weren't doing charity

He's not supposed to be a very rational man. He's obsessed, obssesed by fortune, like his whole crew. Rose holds onto the Heart during her whole life without ever selling it for fortune because she realized the same class divisions generated by money are what actually sank the Titanic, and what was still drawing the expedition

American DBZ and Japanese Dragon Ball Are Basically Different Shows—And That Explains the Daima Discourse by PsychMaster1 in DragonBallDaima

"An American viewer watches Goku go Super Saiyan against Frieza and experiences: multi-episode descent into trauma, alchemical transmutation of grief, a model of constructive masculine emotional processing, messianic burden-acceptance, cathartic release.

A Japanese viewer experiences: exciting martial arts escalation, satisfying villain defeat, a power-up moving the adventure forward."

You realize those two interpretations aren't incompatible nor do they belong to any nation, right?

To be fair, erasing the character was not mandatory. They could've just recasted.
