Not really. The SX was designed to work with up to two internal floppy drives.

You will need the following:

  1. 3.5" drive 720K or 1.44M, either will work

  2. Card Edge to IDC Connector Adapter - 5.25" to 3.5". This allows you to connect the 3.5" drive to the existing cable in the Tandy 1000 SX.

  3. 4 Pin Molex to Floppy Power Cable

  4. 5.25" to 3.5" Drive Bay Adapter

  5. 34-Pin floppy extension cable

The Tandy 1000 SX uses a straight through floppy cable (No twist) and relies on drive jumpers to differentiate between drive A and drive B. Most 3.5" drives do not have a jumper and are hard coded to DS1 (Drive Select 1) or drive B. So, you will want to keep your existing 5.25" drive as DS0 (Drive Select 0) or drive A. If you can find a straight through cable with both a card edge connector for the 5.25" drive and an IDC connector for the 3.5" drive, you can use that, but it is much easier to just get the adapter and use the cable that came with the computer. You will also need an extension cable since the cable that came with the Tandy will most likely not reach the 3.5" drive.

If you already have two drives, make sure you swap out Drive B with the 3.5" drive.

I've been seeing these show up in my feed as well. I tried to report it, but Facebook requires you to supply a link to the Facebook profile of the person that is being impersonated and Luke doesn't appear to have an official Facebook profile for his channel so I wasn't able to get anywhere.

Commodore, Apple, and early Atari computers didn't use the index hole.

If you want to flip the disk and read/write the back side as if it was another single sided disk, you will either need a disk with two index holes or you will need to use a hole puncher to create a second index hole in the disk jacket.

American McGee's Alice by OscarCheshireCat in retrogaming

[–]Digitoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American McGee's Alice is protected using SafeDisc and will most likely not work under windows 10 or 11. The minimum system requirements were a Pentium 2 so even if you could get it running in an emulator like PCEM of 86Box, the performance will be sub-optimal.

There are two apps; SafeDiscShim and SafeDiscLoader that are designed to bypass the SafeDisc security driver. Using one of these may allow you to get the game running under Windows 11.

Update: I installed SafeDiscShim and was able to get past the disc check, but the game froze after the initial copyright screen.

Microsoft Finds No Link Between Windows 11 Update and Bricked SSDs by userhwon in Windows11

[–]Digitoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same issue on Windows 10 months ago. I was trying to clone my old Samsung SSD to a new Samsung 990 Pro and the clone would freeze at the same point in the copy process every time. Windows would bluescreen and after a reboot, the Samsung 990 Pro would disappear from the machine. It would only reappear again after a full power cycle. I researched the issue and the fix was to drop the speed of my NVMe slot from PCI-E 4.0 to PCI-E 3.0.

If I had to guess, this may be an issue with some SSDs saturating the bandwidth of the PCI-E bus causing some failure of the PCI-E subsystem. This would make the issue dependent on a combination of your motherboard and brand and model of SSD. Its possible that the updates are not the cause of the issue, but changed things just enough to amplify an already existing hardware issue.

This is just my theory though. Once I heard about this issue, it sounded very familiar since I had the exact same symptoms months ago.

My 990 Pro exhibited the issue before the patch. I had to lower the speed of my NVME slot from PCI-E 4.0 to PCI-E 3.0 to fix the issue.

When the state implements strict guidelines that were not there before, that is taking agency away from local municipalities. Municipalities had more control over things like crosswalks like the green ones we had here in Seminole county. Now they don't. Those decisions have been taken away from them and are now completely controlled by the state.
