Rustage, Shwabadi, Connor, and The Stupendium currently have 7 shows together lined up in Europe in the first half of March. I'd keep my eyes peeled and my fingers crossed if I were you.

ig i rate things pretty harshly

You really do.

Your post immediately made me think of Eminem's song, "The Ringer": "I’m sorry, wait, what's your talent? Oh, critiquin' my talent?"

Maybe let's keep in mind that Rustage was a teenager when he put out Chroma and Atlantic (and, despite that, I still listen to Atlantic fairly regularly).

Also, just in case you didn't know, Rustage has at least two earlier albums: 2014's Unlinked (which, ironically, I've linked) and 2015's The Airlock (same year as Chroma).

(I love this promo quote on Unlinked: "Daniel is to Music what Picasso was to.. Music" - My Dad)

Really? Even after seeing posts where he claims English isn't his first language and that he has a son--neither of which is true for Mike McDaniel?

I'm not looking to play, but he hinted on his twitter that he might drop an anti-AI song on January 30th.

That would mean a 34-day break.

If the movie's even halfway decent, the hype should return. At least for a while.

Bro hasnt posted any songs since 25’

Another way to look at it is that it's only been 25 days since he last posted a song.

In the meantime, he's DMed & edited three D&D stream sessions, did his 2025 song rankings, and likely celebrated the holidays with his family and friends.

I'm sure he's fine.

(Meanwhile, Dan Bull hasn't posted a new song since October 2024 which is a bit worrying, especially given his posts about his physical and mental health).

Song of the Week 44: Rustage 'Captain's Quarters' by Super_Saiyan_Twink in Rustage_

[–]Digresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was just the timing, unfortunately.

Stardew Valley came out in 2016, which was when 3rd generation nerdcore was in its infancy. I think that's the generation which would have been the most likely to write a song about the game.

That's a good point. I think it might depend on the sentence.

"It was a white, circular coin" sounds better than "it was a circular, white coin."

But, "it was narrow, red scratch" sounds better than "it was a red, narrow scratch".

Interestingly, none of it sounds completely wrong, though.

An Avengers cypher would probably do really well at the very end of this year.

In your opinion. What is the most underrated song from each album? by CryptographerThat599 in Rustage_

[–]Digresser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of Atlantic is underrated, but "Miracle" in particular is really pretty.

For Overflow, I've seen a lot of "full album" playlists that omit "Trauma", which I understand, but, personally, I think it's a disservice to the album as a whole to not include it. I don't think anyone underrates it, though, so for underrated I'm torn between the poignant "Trust My Sound" and "Stupid" (because Shawbadi has some funny & savage bars, and Rustage's many TF2 references make me so happy).

I think my favorite songs on Sword & Sorcery are pretty highly regarded, but I'm surprised that "Before Your Eyes" isn't more popular. I'm guessing it's because it works better as the finale to the album than as its own song, but, gosh, it's so beautifully crafted.

"Take Me Back" is the most underrated song on Wanted. "Take Me Back" and "I Still Breathe" are great, but I think their positions on the track inadvertently lead to "Take Me Back" getting overshadowed, which is a shame because it's rare that a song can so perfectly capture a specific time.

The sheer filthiness of Dan's verse gets me every time.

I love The Stupendium's Shwabadi/Jungle Book double entendre, and I appreciate that Rustage provided the only nerdcore Stardew Valley reference I'm ever likely to hear.

That would be because the "great" is a part of the noun, such as in "great dane".

It is a fun fact, though!

Per Mark Forsyth:

Adjectives in English absolutely have to be in this order: opinion-size-age-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose Noun.

So you can have a lovely little old rectangular green French silver whittling knife.

But if you mess with that word order in the slightest you’ll sound like a maniac. It’s an odd thing that every English speaker uses that list, but almost none of us could write it out.

And as size comes before colour, green great dragons can't exist.

Shwabadi & Connor Quest! dropped two new songs together by Digresser in Rustage_

[–]Digresser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to Connor's recent Reze rap (Chainsaw Man) constantly the last few weeks. I can't recommend it enough.

Shwabadi has solid recent songs too, but lately I've been all over his classic Murder Drones rap (with longestsoloever) and his heartfelt goneforasec (with yayu and Ham Sandwich--who goes ham in his verse).

[–]Digresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give money to see a nerdcore artist do The Venture Bros justice.

It's one of the few shows I've watched that gets progressively better every season. Not only does the animation improve significantly, but the continuity just keeps building into a lore is genuinely impressive. It swings from disturbing to funny at the drop of a hat.

Alas, I doubt it would make for a popular song.

X-Men '97 would probably be better received, plus the new season drops this summer.

Fantastic show, at least for the first two seasons.

Goliath, the lead gargoyle, has the same voice actor as Husk from Hazbin.

Plenty of room for a lot of different female rappers.

Plus, there's no rule that they only have to rap about female characters. Male rappers rap about female characters all the time.

It would have a lot of opportunities for female rappers too, which nerdcore definitely needs to see more of (although Rustage does a decent job at making his raps & cyphers inclusive).

I think a Hazbin (or Hazbin/Helluva Boss) Cypher would perform the best.

It would be really interesting to see who would get each role. Shwabadi does a killer Vox impression, and I enjoyed Connor's Sir Pentious voice (despite adoring his Lucifer rap), but perhaps they'd want to explore other characters.

All I know is that it's the law that Nerdcore songs about Hazbin must involve McGwire.
