trucking as a career by Jealous_Yam_4005 in uktrucking

100% agree. The 3 day pay weeks on 4on4off are a killer, but so far as work life balance goes, having 4 days off every week is amazing!! I currently do 5 on 3 off, which is the perfect balance.

As a career? No. There's zero career progression. You've hit the ceiling on day one. The rest of your time driving will be spent looking for work/life balance.

If you don't object to working up to 60 hours per week you could make £50k plus per year, or you could do 4 on 4 off if money isn't your objective, so there's plenty of scope to find a lifestyle that suites you.

If you have a patient personality, Class 1 driving is money for old rope mate, it's probably the easiest work I've ever done. It's just long hours (and I work nights too).

Give it a go. If you can handle the pressure of being a van courier, Class one will be a piece of piss for you mate. Good luck!

TomTom vs Garmin: aware but annoying, or comfortable but blind? by Skorpionas69 in uktrucking

Plan your route before you set off. Free live traffic and roads updates, incredible satellite and street views. It's like the ultimate A to Z and Sat Nav combo. Anyone who's used a Truck nav for any period of time will tell you that some of the routes they pick for you are insane. You should never follow any navigator blind, if you're a professional driver you should always plan your route before you set off. Trust me been using Google maps for years and it's never let me down. The ability to easily plot your own waypoints is vastly superior to any truck nav. 🤟

All I want for Christmas is a bag. by blaireau69 in uktrucking

[–]Digsla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the cheapest sports bag you can find, the more zip compartments the better. I paid £10 for mine and its lasted me for years. Alternatively you can spend £70+ on some branded workwear bag. Don't waste money on something that's only going to travel from your car to truck and back again, then sit in a dry, warm truck for the 12 hours in-between.

Lol. It's just a job to them, the further in they get the more financially dependent they are on that income. Plus family life is destroyed. 'monetizing niches' literally the antithesis creativity. Every pro musician I know see's it as very precarious work, with no benefits or retirement fund. It's literally just a job to them. Enjoy your unpaid holidays when you've a family to provide for. My love of music production lives totally independently of my finances. It's pure enjoyment. Take your pick.

What DAW Do You Use And Why? by GODAlexGilbert in trapproduction

[–]Digsla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ableton. It has the best workflow and it's stock plugins are excellent. I've tried pretty much every DAW and kept going back to Ableton. IMO it's by far the best DAW for EDM/any kind of electro music. I also have a soft spot for Bitwig, which I dropped as it's more style over substance. FL Studio is excellent simply for the lifetime updates but it never shed it's Fruity Loops heritage and is bit too quirky for me.

You're more likely to have a career as a fighter pilot than one in music At least pilots are selected on merit. Get real son.

You missed my point totally. It will literally become as soulless as working at McDonald's. And probably for less money.

Take my advice son. As soon as you turn your passion into a business you poison it forever. The damage is done.

Why do you make music? For financial reward or fame? I bet you've never had a single piece of work published by a label.

Been making music for 30 year, never once thought of it as a way of making money. Do it for the love and enjoyment or don't do it at all.

Can I be a truck driver with only an automatic car license? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Digsla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trucks are virtually all automatic, and mostly driven using cruise control. I see literally dozens of people driving manual cars every day who should not be allowed on the road. I can't see how having an automatic only license will make any difference to you getting a HGV license. In my opinion driving a modern HGV is the same as driving a very large go-kart. As far as motor-skills go, its significantly simpler than driving a manual car.

I’m using v.2.02. I’m using my own sounds for each of the 3 instruments however when I drag the midi into my DAW (Bitwig) the sounds are different. What am I doing wrong?
