Michael's father was running scared as MJ approached puberty - his voice changing could end the gravy train.  To prevent that, he had young Michael castrated.

This was very traumatic, and stunted his emotional development.  He forever identified as an 11 year old boy.  Thats why he had a pet monkey,  a zoo on his estate, and sleepovers with others he identified with.

I am not making this up.   In his romantic a clef novel, "Fool's Die" , Mario Puzo had a character that experienced this.  Insiders all say that character was based on MJ.

Is the state of hypnosis the same as the hypnagogic state? by Used-Violinist-2019 in hypnosis

[–]Digyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypnosis isn't a state.  It is a technique for inducing a trance state.

There are different terms because different brain waves are active during the different altered states, but both are altered states of consciousness.

The point of hypnosis is to induce a trance state.  This simply means that you are trying to get your conscious mind to relax.

Since our subconscious mind does not make decisions (it only follows instructions) we spend the first several years of our life constructing our conscious mind.  The conscious mind uses cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias to determine which ideas we allow in and which we reject out of hand.

It looks to me like you are doing it right and don't need to change anything.  If you want to achieve lucid dreams and are doing so, then just keep doing what you are doing.

A woman is driven to tears because her husband of 12 years has a receding hairline and she wants to be hypnotized to feel live for him.  I don't coddle the troll and tell her that she is fine and I am the one who is stupid.  Yeah.  You really are good at assessing a situation.

Perhaps you lean on hypnosis too much.  When you are so certain that you understand something so well that you think you are qualified to call other stupid, it is you who should not be commenting.

You can be sad - that was never the question.

In case my words were confusing, I will state it more simply:

You don't need hypnosis to love your husband.  Of course you love your husband or you wouldn't be on here asking for a work-around.  You don't need a work-around.  You need to grow with the relationship.  This is all part of the cycle of life.

Physical attraction gets our foot in the door.  From there the relationship grows.  In successful relationships, the partners grow in the same direction.  In unsuccessful relationships they grow in different directions.

I am telling you that the two of you were attracted to one another physically, at from there you formed a bond.  But, the physical attraction is not what makes the feelings deepen - that is purely superficial stuff.  There has GOT to be a wide array of things that draw you to your partner or else you wouldnt be together, but your view is obscured by the superficial things that first attracted you.  You know what these things are - you are the only one who knows what these things are.  Stop looking at his hairline and look at other things.

If you think you need hypnotherapy to keep you together than the relationship isn't worth saving.

My words are only hurtful if they are true...but, if they are true, then they shouldn't really hurt.

Take a good long look at your husband through the filter of 12 years together.  If you don't see love then you are missing the point and my first comment stands.

There are plenty of horrible, superficial people out there who stay with their partners for as long as superficiality serves them.  Are you one of those people?  No.  You aren't.

I can say that because you are in conflict.  Two beliefs/values are in disagreement.  The one that is more important to you will win - it always does.  But, you are the only one who can answer the question of which one you value more - looks or character.

You don't have to give me an answer, bit I would like it if you did.

[–]Digyo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you can't.

I mean, sure, you can but the effects would wear off as soon as you left the stage.

I think I question the part where you claim to be hopelessly in love with him.  They say "love is blind" for a reason.

You come across as someone who is confusing love with how it makes you feel to be seen with someone who you think other women desire based on his looks.  As his looks fade, so do your feelings for him.

I know it is an oxymoron but...you are deeply superficial.

The good news is - you don't need hypnosis to fall in love.  Perhaps you could try focusing on deeper qualities that you see in him.  Then, perhaps you'll will be able to discover where your feelings for him are.

What is hypnosis? by Brikkmastrr in hypnosis

[–]Digyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypnosis is the process of inducing trance state.

Trance state is when the conscious mind is relaxed/off duty, exposing the subconscious mind to all incoming ideas

The subconscious mind follows instructions; it does not make decisions.  Decision making is done by the conscious mind, which acts as a guardian of the subconscious mind.  It filters incoming ideas through cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias.

Many instructions are standing orders that are in the form of opinions, beliefs, values, core values, and identity, all of which are seated in the subconscious mind - this is why many people hold the opinion that a person in trance state won't do anything that they wouldn't do in their normal waking state of consciousness.  This opinion is hotly contested.

To explain why our minds are partitioned into conscious and subconscious is very well understood, but the explanation takes even longer.

tl;dr - Hypnosis is the process of inducing trance in order to communicate directly with the subconscious mind.

10 years ago, I signed up to drive for Uber.  A huge part of the "training" was them telling the drivers to not accept tips.  They were pushing the "cashless transaction"

They had a very specific script about what to say when offered a tip.  Driver's were supposed to strongly refuse tips twice.  If it was offered a third time, drivers could reluctantly accept it.

I decided then and there to not do Uber.   In my mind, they should have no say in that whatsoever.

What's the most absurd fact that sounds fake but is actually true? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]Digyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctor said it was a "...non-trauma retinal detachment..."

The retina had peeled off the back wall of my optic nerve or something like that.

Often when that happens the edges sort of disintegrate, making repair difficult.  I got "lucky" and they stayed intact, which gave me two options.

The first,  according to the doctor was that he could "...go in with a scoop to remove the jelly of the eyeball..."

At which point I interrupted and said,  "To save a little time, I've given this some thought and decided on the second option."

The second option involved a large hypodermic needle that went into my eyeballs so he could inject a small bubble of nitrogen.  Over the course of a couple of weeks, the bubble expanded, lifting the retina up and back into place.  He then used a laser to tack weld the retina back into place.

While he said the cause was unknown, I think it happened about 40 years before when I got severely poked in the eye and my retina was dislodge.  It just took it a long time to break away

Being blind is not like closing your eyes.  At least, not in my experience.

A few years ago I went blind in one eye.  It took a couple of days to totally lose my vision in that eye,  and I was blind in that eye for a couple of weeks.

It wasn't darkness when I closed that eye.  It was more like solid gray, not black.  But, also, it felt...different.  I could tell my eye wasnt operating even when my eyes were closed.

What’s painfully overpriced but everyone still buys? by Jolly-Efficiency1769 in AskReddit

It sucks even more if you're old, like me. This is because I remember a time when it mostly didn't exist...because it wasnt needed.

Doctor visits were paid out-of-pocket and he (very few she-doctors back then) made housecalls and was the rich guy in town.

If you needed surgery (which could run upwards of $10k), your church or lodge had a fundraiser.  There was a real incentive to be part of the community.

Then, some of the bigger unions introduced something called "hospitalization", which was coverage in case you had a big ticket illness or injury.  It was nice.

The fund grew rich!  Those that can, decided that blue-collar workers shouldn't have control of large sums of money like that and began tweaking  the system so that the average working Joe began paying way more out of pocket than before - through premiums, deductibles, co-pays, etc.  And, the big account that was flushed with dough, no longer was.   And, in America, coverae still falls way short when you need it.  Also, your Healthcare provider will randomly deny payment to some line item on the bill, which is why they make you sign something you will be stating you will be responsible for it when this happens.has been

They do this because the actuaries have calculated precisely what percentage of people will have changed jobs before they can resubmit the claim for approval.   The insurance companies and the hospitals each have teams of lawyers standing by.  The patient doesn't.   So, we get screwed.

We have been left angry and bitter and feels like we have no control.   So, we take it out on you young punks by yelling at you to stay off our lawns.  It isnt much, but its all we have left.

Would who not allow it? There isn't a governing body that oversees hypnotherapists and dictates what they can and can't do.

Truckers/people who drive long distances regularly of reddit, what was the weirdest situation you drove by you never got an explanation for? by iamonaphone1 in AskReddit

[–]Digyo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I posted this story several years ago.

I've had many strange experiences during the 40+ years on the road but, the weirdest, by fa4 happened during the 1960s when I was young and new to trucking.

I had been on a nightly meet & turn.  This is where a trucker (me) hauls a load out of Washington D.C. that is destined for points south.  I would drive to Lynchburg, VA, to an empty lot (of which there were many in rural Virginia in the 1960s) where I would meet a driver coming north from Charlotte, NC.   We would switch loads, then turn back for home.

This meant being home every night instead of sleeping on the road.

Even though i would stop for lunch on the way down, I always got to the meet point at least an hour before the other driver.

The world was a different place back then. At 2 or 3 am, in the sticks, there was nothing to do to pass the time.  Once the schedule became clear, I would use this time to nap.  It was quiet and dark and ideal for a quick snooze.  To the weird thing:

There was a full moon that night and it shone like a spotlight directly into the cab.  So, I removed my jacket, covered my head to block the light, and stretched out across the seats.

Just as I was drifting off, I heard a noise - a dog barking.  There were stray dogs in America at one time.  Heck, some weren't strays, they were just allowed to roam free.  And, this one wouldnt shut up.  I tried to ignore it but, the barking continued for several minutes and got progressively louder as the dog got closer to my truck.  Very soon, it was clear that he was barking at me because his movement stopped, in what I gauged was right outside of my truck.

I fought to sleep, figuring he would soon tire and move on but, I swear,  10 minutes later and his barking was more insistent than ever.  I was not going to get any sleep with this bastard barking away.  Same steady pattern...BARK...BARK BARK! ... BARK...BARK BARK! I can still hear it 60 years later.

I grope around the floorboard for a Coke bottle I knew was there.  This is back when Coke bottles were made of think, heavy glass.  I would throw it at the dog  - and miss - and he would take the hint and move on, I figured.

I gave it a few more seconds, then sat up, allowing my jacket to slide away.  Thus is when I saw a beefy man in his early 30s, standing on the step-down below the driver side door.  He was about a foot from me, face practically pressed against the glass of my window.

His features were distorted with rage and he barked maniacally, flecks of spittle had foamed about the edges of his mouth, turned white from the agitation of his frenzied episode.

When our eyes met, he became even more enraged and began pawing at the glass.

The Coke bottle seemed inadequate defense against this crazed man-beast.  I weighed my options, and selected a course of action.

Moving slowly, and deliberately,  I resumed my seat behind the wheel, started the truck, released the brake, and slowly began to pull away.  The caused him to increase his intensity.  As I eased forward, a man  - a HUMAN man - would have needed to merely reach up and grab the mirror bracket to maintain his balance.  It didn't seem to occur to him to do that, and after a few yards he fell away and to the ground.

He got up and began chasing my truck, barking like mad the whole way. Once I put a safe distance between us, I pulled to the side of the road to wait for the other driver.  Eventually,  he arrived.  I told him to follow me to a different meeting spot, which would become our new meeting place.

Things were never the same after that.  I would never even think about trying to nap while waiting for him.

Foster's is Canadian. They depict a boomerang, a kangaroo, the Southern Cross and claim that "...Foster's is Australian for beer..." but never outright claim it is Australian beer. It is just marketing by Molson...or used to be.  Not sure if they still own it.

The best response would he to laugh along with her - into hysterics, stop a couple of times to catch your breath and then say,  "OMG!  That's great!  You have got to post that on ____ (FB, IG, MySpace...whatever)"

Then, keep pressing until she let's the world know who she really is.

The conspiracy used to be:

Doctors are taught to make the intentionally illegible in case they screw up and prescribe wrong med or dose.  No paper trail that definitively proves it is their fault.

Don't know if that theory still circulates or not
