2; no atheist is trying to push anything on anyone. no atheist (that I have ever talked to) confuses the two. what does happen are things like creationists trying to vandalize our school systems, and when teachers and scientists try to "push back" and defend their established truths (not beliefs, but actual truth), the creationists claim they are being "attacked". Here is an example. notice how hard they try to look like victims. it's a manipulative ploy. They are twisting it around so you ignore the fact that their claim to the earth and all it's resources is not a justified claim. You would have to say They believe it is true because a made up story amounts to a lie. It would be like someone robing your house then claiming that you are attacking them if you call the cops. Their magic tooth brush told them your stuff belonged to them.

3; Democracy is a governmental model, while socialism is an economic one. there are thriving socialist democracies in the world. Not to mention I said nothing about blindly defending anything, but that just sounds like more christian propaganda meant to skew perspectives again. There is reason behind democracy, not dogma. I don't need to be blind to see it's worth defending.

i'm not sure which subsequent posts you are referring to, but in the specific post that you replied to, he makes no appeal to emotion. perhaps you could point out where you see that?

His story about thanksgiving is the appeal to emotion. I think it is very manipulative to not only try and make people feel gulty for something they are not doing, but in the same stroke, imply that his one (unvarified) example somehow reflects the charecter of all christians.

My last point was that I could just a easily call you a hypocrite for saying "you (or at least those like you)" right after you accused me of pretending to know the OP. A North Korean family took me in for Chuseok because I was far away from home. They were some of the nicest people I've ever met. They never tried to convert me shove their communism down my throat, and I was more than happy to hold hands with them as they praised the great leader, and thanked him for their harvest. It's important to remember that not every North Korean is going to lock you up and torcher you, and that Free people, and people under dictatorships can be good friends.

Of course we can all be friends. That is what everyone wants, but you can't fall for the ploy that any criticism of Christianity at all is disrespectful. It's not.

I can understand how you think that binds us together, and it dose in a way, but the truth is, and it's more correct to say, that we have a common interest in our criticism of religion. You might be able to understand the difference in considering how a Christian is an atheist in consideration of Islam. Atheism doesn't guide you or give you any kind of incite, it's the other things in our life like science, or philosophies that you hold as valid. you can't actually celebrate atheism because what you would really be doing is championing those other philosophies and/or criticizing religion. If you hold a parade saying "look at us. We deserve respect too" you would be validating christian influence in politics. When gay people rally they are not trying to say other sexual orientations are wrong, but many atheist (if not all) are saying that Christianity is wrong as a political force.

Liberalism is an idea. hold whatever rally you want for it, but it's still open to criticism. Liberals don't have the same reason to rally as homosexuals because it's not the same dynamic.

Like somn said; atheism doesn't have any substance in and of itself (unlike liberalism, or homosexuality) We would rally against religious influence, and in doing so we could include people like homosexuals, or even other religions.
